Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe.

"Jodie, this is ridiculous," Marin complained lightly, wobbling on the rickety stool. "Why in heavens' name do I have to have a blindfold on for this fitting?"

"Because it keeps you from takin' another look at the dress we've cobbled together and decidin' it's not right, like every damn bride before you, sweetcheeks," was Jodie's reply. "Now hold yourself still, or I'm liable to prick more of you than the cloth."

Grumbling to herself, Marin obligingly attempted to stay still, though it was a little hard. Jodie had insisted that she wear the white boots she was borrowing from Carla for the wedding itself, so that she could get the hang of the dress right. Unfortunately, neither of them had considered that this meant putting Marin on that wobbly little fitting stool in heels. But at least the something borrowed was taken care of.

Something new was the lingerie, which Marin had spent a good hour giggling over with the ladies in the Heavenly Boutique before actually buying. It was also most of the wedding dress - a simple strapless gown in soft silk dupion, which Jodie had made into something more modest with lace from Marin's mother's wedding veil. Marin had insisted on modest; she didn't have the time or inclination to fully investigate and find a wedding gown from Evan's own Earth time period, but she wasn't going to disappoint him by showing up to their wedding in something that would make him uncomfortable.

The dress now was almost perfect; a flowing skirt of silk dupion, with the bodice and sleeves made of the soft corded lace Louise Richards had been veiled with on her own wedding day. The neckline was high, too, in the manner of the ladies of Evan's time period, and Jodie had replaced the zipper with a row of silk-covered buttons from neck to the deepest curve of Marin's spine. With any luck, the groom wouldn't have to ask his bride just how he was supposed to get her out of her dress to consummate the marriage.

Something blue ....Marin would have been happy just to say that the something blue was going to be represented by the flowers in her hair, but oh, no, Jodie and Carla had clubbed together and bought her a pair of blue lace garters for her stockings. The silver sixpence, too, had easily been found - Jodie had raided Bill's little hoard of coppers and silver to find a sixpence which was going to be slipped into Marin's left boot on the day.

All that was left to find was the something old ....and apparently that was well in hand as well. Jodie and Bill just weren't telling Marin about it yet, that was all.
