They went to the lake house every summer for at least a week. It was a time for the cousins to get together to play, talk, reconnect with some that had been out of town or sent away to bordering schools.

The lake house was a cabin and not a cabin. It had a wood facade, but it was larger than any of the other cabins that dotted the land surrounding the lake. Seven bedrooms, a game room, two and a half baths, a hearth that rivaled the Inns and a kitchen that would shame most fancy restaurants. It was situated against the tree line, and there was a private dock on the property where two small boats were anchored. There was a larger boat but that one was usually hidden from view when the cousins converged, after that one year....well that's another story entirely.

There was always an adult there, whether it was a parent or someone paid to deal with the Granger gang, well that never mattered to the kids. It was true they preferred some adults over others, that many Grangers under one roof was a recipe for trouble. Summer time was meant for trouble stew and it seemed every year the cousins managed to add new flavors and spice to the mix.

She and Shane had gotten there a few days later than most of their cousins, she had come down with a flu and Shane had stayed home with her while she recovered. "I want to go swimming! And I brought some marshmallows for us to torch later." She was rambling, she loved this time with her cousins.

Shane chuckled. "They aren't to torch, they're for the s"mores, Ducky." He had started calling her that after the 'duck incident' which she'd sworn him to secrecy on and she threw a shoe at his head as they approached the cabin door.

"I told you not to call me that!"

That just got another chuckle. She was wearing one of her new sundresses, it was pale with pretty flowers along the hem, she loved it. Shane opened the door and waved Robyn to go in first, he remembered what happened lat year....she did not. Not until the bucket of ice cold water treated with red food coloring dropped on her head and a chorus of giggles followed.

"Grr. Why you....GRR!? And the games began.
