The Shimmerscale lair was full of small twisting tunnels and offshoots that were infrequently used. So it would be easy for things to get lost for ages or even eons. Such was the case for an egg. It was not even an egg of the shimmerscale clan's, but one long since lost and forgotten by a long gone former occupant upon it's discovery to be infertile. It had been discarded and forgotten, to lay in one of the neglected tunnels rarely used.
It might have remained so had not Moon been exploring the far reaches of the lair during a visit. She'd been checking to ensure all was secure when a faint glimmer in the gloom caught her eye. It was odd after so many hundreds of years the egg, which was crystalline, had not been completely covered in dirt and thus hidden completely. Moon slowly approached, not recalling ever having seen such an egg, to her own recollection, most were leathery. But this, this looked as though it had been hewed from an over sized opal shaped and polished, though it had a strange lightness indicating it was no stone as she hefted it.
This was to be brought to the others, she decided. Carefully she took it in her jaws and carried it to the main nesting chamber, waddling slowly with her own girth of pregnancy. She gently set it down amongst those gathered in the nesting chamber, silver eyes glittering. "Ah found somethin' in one o' th' deeper passages.." She tilted her head settling herself gingerly, the dim light catching on what now was as she confirmed was an egg. "Tis nae one o' icer's an ah dinnae know where it came from." She looked curiously at those gathered.
