Deceit. It best explained how things began and ended. Lies unfolded and piled one upon the other then bursting out, like ripples upon a lake. Things started out small then rippled out in earthshaking sessions. At least shaking her and her children's world.
She should of known when the smaller signs showed their face. Quiet whispers behind her back at the palace. Her home. But it took being escorted and removed from the castle like last weeks garbage to really kick in. At first she thought it was because two out of five of their children were born sickly and were on the verge of death as it was; one being the only son she bore. That was far from the truth.
Lies. The one she thought to be her mate was only using her as some play thing for his enjoyment.
Lies. He had a mate and children already. Her body and emotion were nothing but play things to him.
Used. That is how she felt. She had trusted the one who she called Mate. Trusted him with her mind. Her body. Her very soul. It was all too good to be true and she knew it from the moment he spilled those three words to her. And how she hated those words now.
I love you.
How totally laughable that she was gullible enough to think that he, Alexander Lasair, loved her. She had remained pure as the snows until he came into her life. Now she bore his children. Children that would never know of him. Five little ones that she found herself quite thankful that he never got to see. Her scent would be the only one they knew and for the time being this was a small blessing in her favor. He had taken everything from her; her innocents, her joy, her faith. Be damned if he was going to take away her children too.
Her largest concern was the twins who were riding the verge of death to begin with. She would return to Rhy'Din, a broken soul, but she would raise her children full hearted, until her last breath.
The dragoness was a pale thing now, lackluster in the shimmering icy scales having died off to a milky, almost clear-white ghost of their formor glory. Life struggled to remain in her for her children and sister's sake. The only beings in her life who seemed to care for her existence.
The bulk weight landed on the mouth of an extended cavern that had once been burrowed out as a lair but never was in use. It would be this winding tunnels that she would lay her children to rest while pondering on her next course of actions. This would be home. And a barrier raised that any other then those bearing a seal would not be able to enter. And that only person for now would be Icer. And Icer only.
Like a brooding mother hen she watched over her hatchlings as they settled into their new home, worry filled eyes held back the tears that threatened so harshly to spill. The ache in her chest almost unable to bear and yet bear she would. But her outlook on things no longer gentle and reserved. The dragoness had became harsh ....and cold as winter ice. Gentleness would be only for those deemed worthy. And for now that was a very small, secluded group.
