*Every hour The large black would get up and pace the room, always coming back to the nest to nose at the motionless egg in the nest. The more time that passed, the more worried he became.
There more hours and ten more circuits of the room later found him at the nest once more, and when he nuzzled the egg, he gave a small sound of surprise as the egg seemed to nuzzle him back. The egg had moved! And now it was continuing to do so. Perhaps it was a lazy hatchling, just not ready to come out of the egg, but it was ready now!
The first cracks formed on the shell of the egg, and a mint green muzzle burst through the side of the egg, crying out before gasping out for breath. Damean helped to break away the shell and it was clear why the hatchling was gasping.....The hatchling was nearly bigger than the egg itself, and had been cramped inside! They had a third son, now, and the Damean carefully cleaned the hatchling, crooning to it gently to comfort the poor boy as his breathing finally stabilized.*
"I've never seen a hatchling so big.....He's twice the size of his brothers."
