It was later in the evening, when a small envelope was tacked onto Mama's door. Then, just as quickly as she was there, she turned, and disappeared down the hallway. Once Mama found it, and opened it, she'd be gone.

Inside, Mama would find a short letter written by her, and a scale that was the size of a quarter, and shimmered black, gold and green.

Mama,

Don't worry about me. I'm fine. And I'm with Vanyel Shimmerscale. You said I wasn't able to leave without a Family member, or a Guard. He's one of those two. I promise I'll be back in a few days Mama. The scale should let you know that I'm with who he says he is. I love you!

Luna

And that Scale? Once mama touched it, she's feel Vanyel's essence, along with a short message of 'She came willingly, and I'll return her.'

It was all very simple. She knew Mama would probably be angry, but she wasn't going to say no to the Experience that was offer to her.

Trees were his friend, making it easy to slip away to the deeper forest. He followed the trail he himself laid years prior, out to a hide-y hole in the hollow of an old tree. Spells of re-direction fell away at his presence, shields from magical attack flared briefly then subsided. A cloak-wrapped bundle was what rested there, and that was what he grabbed. It had been stashed about half-way up the tree, where the branches hid it from sight. Leaves cushioned his landing as he climbed down, crouching to unwrap the cloak.

Inside: the match to the earring he wore, a pair of swords, and the cloak itself. Silver thread set off the black in a pretty manner, mage sight showed him that the spells of concealment and protection still sang appropriately. He crouched and breathed a moment, considering the that he'd agreed to take another trip into very odd realms. Then, he might just find another route through, see things he hadn't before. This time he wouldn't be scared going in, that had to be worth something.

He pulled the earring out, and the longer of the two blades, slipping it into his belt. The second sword re-wrapped and carried gently.

The next step? Time to go get Star. The walk was easy, and he waited just outside the wards of the lair. A quiet grin, as he relaxed, leaning back against the stones.

After that note had been left, she had moved back to the room where her stuff was being kept, and proceeded to pack a small amount of things. A set of sturdy clothes, and a cloak that was draped over her shoulders, and fastened at the neck. The hood was pulled up over her head, before she shouldered her pack, then slipped off her shoes and picked them up. She was going with the Intent of not being caught. Bare feet, they were quieter. Then she slipped out of the room, and down the hallway.

She moved slowly and quietly, until she had finally reached the mouth of the lair. With out hesitation, she slipped past the wards, and outside, to where Vanyel was waiting. She grinned softly.

"Hey."

She greeted him warmly, then motioned for him to start moving. She didn't know how long it would be until Mama discovered the note, and she didn't want to risk being caught.

He chuckled and followed, letting her get them a decent way away from the lair before he sped up just enough to lead her towards a crossroads that was well off the beaten path and away from both city and home. Out of use and deserted, it was as good a place as any to risk a gate to places clueless travelers would be eaten.

"Hi. So, we're heading out here to minimize casualty risk later. This place has fallen out of use, and if the nexus reactivates my gate later, I don't think anyone will wander into it by mistake." As, indeed, they seemed to be heading through a field. Only a brief clip was there broken path under-foot and clear signs it had been a road.

"Are your ears pierced, by chance?" Asked curiously as they neared the spot.

When he moved forward and started to lead her, she didn't protest against it. She figured it was for a reason, which was only confirmed by him when he spoke. She listened closely, before nodding several times. "I don't think It'd be good if that happened." she mused softly.

His question though, made her blink several times. Quickly, her hand shot up towards her ear, and her fingers ghosted over her earlobe. There were no earrings, and no visible holes there. She shook her head.

"No....Why?"

One foot marked out an X in the dirt shortly in front of them, and he turned back to her. Still with a bit of a grin as he crouched, setting down the bundle and showing her the matching earring in his left hand. His right reaching into a pouch at his side. "If they were, I was going to have you wear this....As they're not, we'll do this a different way." Pulling out a short length of thin rope he worked a simple, slightly ornate knot in the middle and threaded the loop of the earring through it, pressing the metal back so it formed a closed circle.

He offered the rope to her with that done, it looked like metal but behaved like normal hemp. "Instead, this is for you...As either a bracelet or necklace, but it will need to stay on once we've passed through. It's a means of connection that should let us communicate if we get separated, or at least will tell me if you're in deadly danger and let me know where you are. Would probably do the same to you for me." Softly, calmly he relayed all this.

"The sword and cloak are also for you, though you have your own....Keep the cloak handy, it has spells that'll let you hide. The sword will connect with almost anything, should we need to fight." He looked her ever, and blinked. "And if you haven't had sword training, I'll teach the basics."

He stood and stretched. "Am I forgetting anything, any lingering questions?" A slow grin.

She watched him intently, as he went about fixing the earring to the ...String, Rope" What ever it was, it looked interesting. When it was offered to her, she took it gently, and bit at her lower lip for a moment, unsure of where to put it. If it was worn as a necklace, it could be caught and tugged off, and she didn't want that. After a moment, she proceeded to wrap the rope around her wrist, as he spoke, before she held it out, towards him.

"Can you tie it for me, Please?"

Was asked once he pause long enough for her to speak.

And when he spoke again, about the cloak, and sword, she nodded a few times, and nibbled at her lower lip again. "Star had sword training...So...I guess it can't be too hard to pull off of what she learned, and use it myself....Right' And No...I don't think....there's anymore questions."

He grinned as she spoke of swords. "I hope."

He nodded solemnly, tying it once on the underside, once on the top, and tucking the ends in against her skin. "It should stay...If it doesn't, it can handle an enchantment to make it stay."

With that, he nodded again, more to himself as he turned to face the 'x' he'd marked. Hand reached out to touch the ground, magic flowing down and out, making a visible circle that glowed almost white. It grew like a puddle to about six feet in diameter, shifting to have a defined edge and thin crisscrossing threads in the middle. He stood, and it flipped so it was vertical. A quick gesture, and it changed, glowing a bright purple.

He stepped back and eyed it a moment. "Okay, first things first, these realms change constantly. I don't have control over where the gate let out, just that it's firmly in the Fae'n realms, and they want company." His voice stayed steady, despite how quickly his heart was beating. He'd anticipated controlling the gate-not the realm controlling it.

He chuckled. "Ready?"

"I'll be careful. And keep an eye on it, 'cuz I don't wanna lose it." she said with a nod, before she flashed him a grin. Once he was done tying it around her wrist, she shook her hand, and let it fall comfortably on her wrist, before she moved to gather the cloak he had brought for her.

Seconds later, it replaced the one she had worn there. He said it had enchantments and such to help her, right' She'd feel safer wearing it, instead of her own. Then she moved to pick up the sword, and hold it for now...Until she could figure out how...or where she could hold it on her being, where it'd be most comfortable.

With that done, she turned towards him, and watched silently as he started going about creating the portal. As he did so, she watched wide-eyed and intently, as it began to form, and take shape, then when it became vertical, she grinned at him.

"As much as I'll ever be~" She murmured intently, before she edged closer, to both him, and the portal.
