6 - Wednesday " The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) Dobbs and Curtin meet up in Mexico, and go to work for a contractor, MacClane, who takes them away to remote site and tells them they will be paid when the job is finished. When they are finished, they return to town to find MacClane to get their wages. MacClane gives them a few dollars, and says he'll just go to the bank and pick up the payroll for them. Dobbs and Curtin then meet up with an old prospector, who claims the hills are still full of gold, and if they can get the cash, he'll go with them. They eventually get the cash from MacClane after a little "persuasion", and all three set off for the hills as good friends, but will they return that way" Cast: Hunphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt. 27 - Wednesday " The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) Superb remake of Lon Chaney silent is even better than the original. Laughton, as Victor Hugo's misshapen bell-ringer Quasimodo, is haunting and unforgettable. Magnificently atmospheric studio recreation of 15th-century Paris is also a big plus. 28 - Thursday " North by Northwest (1959) Quintessential Hitchcock comedy-thriller, with bewildered ad-man Grant chased cross country by both spies (who think he's a double agent) and the police (who think he's an assassin). One memorable scene after another, including now-legendary crop-dusting and Mount Rushmore sequences; one of the all-time great entertainments. Cast: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason.
