Refined Mischief

Klara Kingston stared at the mirror, smoothing her hands over her white t-shirt before she reached down to slide on one of her red stilettos before the other. She looped a red belt through the loops of her khaki shorts before looking once more at her reflection.

Satisfied, the proprietress of Kingston's Kuriosity Shoppe descended the steps of her apartment, stepping briefly into the street before unlocking a door that was next to the one she just exited. Manicured fingers tapped nervously on the doorframe as she propped it open, stepping inside to turn on the lights.

A large banner in brilliant golds and reds announced "Grand Opening" hanging above her shop. Though she had been operating for near two weeks, the last shipment of inventory had just been delivered, the decorating complete and the lighting installed, she felt it was time to have a proper store opening.

The ceiling was painted a shade of red that blended down the walls to fade to an orange and then gold, ending into the hardwood floor. Ambient lighting had been installed at the bottom of the walls as well as the top, giving off a perpetual glow that looked as if the sun was eternally setting within the walls of her shoppe.

A tall dark wood bookcase on one wall held leather bound volumes sprawling from floor to ceiling. The closer you stepped the more fragrant was the smell of leather and oil, keeping the books in mint condition. Another wooden rack encased numerous bottles of wine, some from Rhy'din and others from various places within the Nexus. Shelving along the walls seemed to almost float and hold various trinkets of travel from daggers, revolvers, jade dragons and pieces of jewelry. A small corner of the room was draped in a crimson velvet curtain that was tied back for the moment, a closer inspection revealing a few small racks of lacy lingerie and stockings.

To the immediate right of the doorway was a long, glass counter on which sat an old fashioned cash register and usually behind which was Miss Kingston. Another floor to ceiling shelving unit claimed the wall behind the counter, holding other various trinkets and bottles of potions and small satchels of fragrant herbs.

Klara smiled to herself before she set the key behind her on a shelf, dropping her painted nails to once more tap along the glass of the counter as she waited.
