Topic: Dockside in the pre-dawn hours...

He stood quietly near the dockside. Beside him as always lani stood keeping the cloak wrapped around her tightly to keep out the winter dizzle. The fog had made things even harder to see. His apprenitce was not far off either. He had told her to keep close attention on what was going on, and where things were going.

The dock master approached him. The smell of the man could drop a monster at ten paces. He was un shaven and no manners to speak of. He wiped his nose on his sleave before handing a inventory list to the dark warrior. His hand moved out from behind him, taking the pad and reviewing the contents. "Have all the crates been unloaded then?"

The shoreman nodded, "Aye, gov. The last bit is bein' moved into the wareshouse now."

Travanix shook his head slightly, moving the inventory list to lani's hand. She quietly took it, pulling it under the cloak. "Excellent. I want the warehouse secured. I want the black crates out of the warehouse by dawn. You know where they need to go." He informed the docksman.

The dock master nodded and turned, walking back to his crew. Travanix stood motionless, watching the crew work.

Katerrina was wrapped in the fog. She used the cover to get close enough to the dock master to read the inventory list as he handed it to Master Travanix. She committed it all to memory. How many regular crates, how many black crates. Where they were located. Where they were going.

She watched as the dock master turned to order his men to work. She watched the men sort the black crates from the others. Watched them pile the black crates separately, to move them once the others were secured. Katerrina counted the stacks, and frowned.

The fog thickened. Katerrina stepped free of the mist in a spot behind Master Travanix.

"One of the black crates is not with the others."

He nodded briefly, turning slightly to the side. "I am aware, my apprentice. I discovered a few weeks back that certian resources are being 'reallocated' without my authority."

He stepped away from the longshore men as they worked. "I need to find out where and when my shipments are being diverted. We can find out where they are taking it, or who is taking it - we can eliminate them."

He turned back to the dock workers. His arms remained folded behind his back. "Search the ship, make sure they are not the ones holding back on me."

She melted back into the fog. The ship was still anchored, its crew milling on the deck. Katerrina had no problem getting aboard without being seen. She searched the hold. She saw burlap sacking. A few coils of rope. No crates of any type.

Katerrina searched carefully. Nothing was overlooked. No space was considered too small for her attention. She was absolutely sure none of Master Travanix's property was on board.

Katerrina again stepped from the fog. She was out of sight of the dock master. "The ship has nothing of yours on it Master Travanix. The diverting starts with the warehouse."

He frowned slightly at her return. "Move to the backside, begin investigating hiding places within the warehouse. Be quick, they are nearly complete."

He began visually counting for the men on the dock, verifying each one coming and going from ship to shore. The crates being relocated and seperated out carefully.

If it was starting here, he was not going to be robbed under his own nose.

She moved with the thick fog around the back of the warehouse. The back door was open slightly. Easy enough for Katerrina to slip inside. The workers saw her as a shadow of an afterthought.

Katerrina found the dock master's office. She scanned in the dim light until she found what she was looking for. She paused as she tucked papers into her belt. A smirk twisted her lips.

All this in the space of five heartbeats.

She went back outside and circled back to the front of the warehouse. "The pig of a dock master thinks he's being clever. He's skimmed the last three shipments. What's left of the last shipment is stored in a hidden alcove next to his office. The two missing black crates are buried in the farthest corner. They were unloaded first. Two empty crates were painted black to try and make it look like all the crates were there. His mind was pathetically easy to read. And dirty, just like his body."

She handed Master Travanix the papers taken from the office. They showed who now possessed the goods, and how much they paid.

He easily slipped through the darkness and fog without being noticed by anyone, his feet carrying him directly to Travanix. A glanced was offered for his apprentice before those dark, swirling violet eyes took in what held his partners attention. "I have a surprise in store for who ever is ripping us off. Wait till they open the next crate they take"." His voice dropped, "A very nasty surprise indeed.?

He smirked at Romax's intent. "No no, old friend. We aren't even sure exactly which crates they are taking. Unless you are planning on staking our entire next shipment, I do not think that would be a good idea."

Travanix took the papers that Katerrina had provided for him from the shoreman's office. He looked them over. "They are simply taking what they think they can get away with. It would seem they are taking the black crates exclusivly."

He pulled out his data pad and reviewed what was coming in. "Katerrina, take inventory of the crates before they finish. I want to know what I'm missing."

Katerrina glanced at the man, acknowledging his presence. The fog thickened. She used it as cover to slip back inside the warehouse. The dock workers never saw her. She was a shadow as she touched each black crate.

She was done before the closest worker took six steps.

She emerged from the fog once more to face Master Travanix. "You're missing most of the disruptor cells from this shipment. They're in the two crates he thinks he's stashed away from you." A smirk touched her mouth.

"He has no idea what he's dealing with."

He nodded quietly. "Very well." He went quiet for a moment, watching the work occur around him. "Katerrina...," He began slowly. "Allow them to complete their work, then watch them. Make sure you know where that equipment is going. Track those responsible for this, and see how far up you can find our equipment."

He turned to Romax. "Kill all but one of them...destroy the ship..."

He turned, facing back towards the city. "They will suffer for their stupidity."

He vanished into the fog of the morning.

She felt that unfamiliar clench in her gut when Master Travanix called her by name. Katerrina didn't think about it. She had a task to complete.

She melted back into the fog, using it to work her way around the back of the warehouse. She saw the cart loaded with black crates, the heavy draft horses waiting for their driver. She also saw a second smaller cart with lighter horses hitched to it. Obviously for the goods stolen from Master Travanix.

Katerrina slipped back inside the warehouse. She tuned into the dock master's voice. He was giving orders. He thought he was clever. She saw right through him.

She was wrapped in shadows. A worker looked right at her and didn't realize it. When the stolen crates were ordered onto the other cart, she knew it. She hid herself on the cart. The dock master was the middleman. Katerrina wanted to know who he worked for.

As the morning began to brighten the fog around the docks continued to thicken as he continued to survey the remaining workers, planning just how he was going to take each of them out and which one would be the lucky one to stay alive to carry the story. Fixing their positions in the back of his mind, he quietly began to draw the fog around him in a thick blanket that not even the keenest eye could penetrate. The presence of Travanix had long faded into the back of his mind and Katerrina was beginning to fade into the distance as the cart she was hidden in rolled out of sight; he pushed them into the back of his mind before going to work. Dropping from his perch overlooking the docks, he moved silently as he walked down to where the closest of the workers were, a solid block of fog just moving slowly towards his prey. Reaching inside of his tunic, he withdrew two vials of dark liquid with injection modules attached to them. Reaching out through the fog he quickly injected the first worker and then the second a few moments later after shuffling around behind him. Returning the now empty vials into his tunic, he began to move towards the next two hapless saps that were turning to glance in the direction of the two workers that Romax had already dealt with, their screams echoing behind him in a most satisfying way as they began to melt into unrecognizable piles of goo.

The next two were killed in a most excruciating manner. As they started to come closer to check out what was causing their co-workers to scream in such horrible ways they were suddenly frozen in their tracks. They could see the fog approach them as if someone or something were directing it and before they could spend more than a moment wondering what was going on the two men were literally pulled apart at the seams. Heads, legs, arms, and torsos just flew out in different directions as Romax opened his fists and spread his fingers outward. A fine mist of blood stained the fog that was wrapped around the two and slicked the already wet dock surface. He continued on to his next targets, three men just starting to get off the ship.

At this point he gave up all pretences of hiding as he strode out of the fog that had been concealing him. The three men on the gangplank stopped dead in their tracks as they spotted him and a moment later all three were collapsing to their knees. With an angry focus Romax reached out with the force into all three men and smiled as the heart of each was violently ripped from their chests. Their now lifeless bodies collapsed onto the gangplank, blood pouring from the gaping holes in their chest to spread out across the dark wood. Everywhere the blood began to spread a roaring fire popped up, spreading specifically back onto the boat; engulfing it completely to the point that nothing would be left.

One thing remained, the man who was now standing behind him, his mouth and eyes wide open and frozen with a look of pure horror. Romax turned to face the man, a dark smile on his face. "I see that my handiwork has not gone unnoticed. Good.." Romax took a step towards the man, then another. "You will remember what happened here tonight and you will pass it on. You will tell everyone you know the story of what happened here tonight as a reminder of what will happen again should any of our cargo go missing again." Romax reached out and patted the man on the head before turning and vanishing once more into the fog, leaving nothing but carnage behind him.

Another had watched from the shadows, though it was more what her senses spoke of. The sound of the one mans voice and his dark signature told her he was one of the ones that came into the Inn that one night. That meant the other was not that far away. A sigh as she could not do anything for the fallen men, but stealing cargo was illegal no matter which side of the law you were on. Cassy turned and headed back along the dock to see what else she could glean before returning to her nightly meditation.
