Beltane Festivities Take a Turn for the Worst; Woman assaulted at Masquerade Ball May 3, 2010

A woman was stabbed last night during the Beltane Masquerade Ball around eleven or midnight RST. According to sources, the assaulter reportedly took a sharp instrument to the victim while she was conversing with friends. In the chaotic aftermath, the suspect reportedly escaped with the weapon.

Family has yet to disclose the victim's full name.

"They call her Fury," said Colleen MacLeod, an eyewitness and local restaurant-owner. "That's all I know. She's a friend of a friend."

"First thing I knew, the scent of blood hit me and I saw the guy wipe a blade and then ran. I ran after," explained Riley O"Rourke, another witness. "There was something familiar about him."

According to O"Rourke, the suspect fled following the detonation or utilization of some kind of photoreceptive device or maneuver, inducing a brief state of blindness by way of disorienting light bursts.

An anonymous witness expressed the confusion following the assault:

"There a room full of people, all very prettily dressed, with loud noises and a crowd constantly moving. Would you have seen anything?"

"I just turned in time to hear the sounds of swords being drawn, a man running away a blade, and a woman fall beside the knight that was here earlier..." observed Lilliana McClae, Beltane's May Queen. "I wish I'd seen more, I wanted to help."

Apparently, McClae was not the only bystander who recognized the poor timing of the assault. The crowd at large was noticeably disgruntled following the attack.

"While I don't know what happened exactly, and while I understand that this is RhyDin," commented Jaycy Ashleana, a guest at the Masquerade Ball. "To desecrate this event during the Beltane celebrations is absolutely reprehensible and I feel sad that someone felt to ruin the holiday for so many when it has been so successful thus far."

Another guest remarked: "The stabbings have all been alarming and in very poor taste."

Regarding the unfortunate time and location of the crime, McClae had the following to add:

"In the face of blood and pain life still grows....Stalks rise from battlefields to make flower fields and hills of grass. Shadows can hide in the coming face of summer, so those bearing ill will about this time of year better beware."

Colleen MacLeod, who aided in the removal of the victim, had as much to say regarding her condition:

"Fury was taken to Fio's room," explained MacLeod. "Apparently, Fury has healing gifts of her own. My main concern was Fio and her baby; women have lost babies over lesser shocks."

No word yet on the victim's or associates" conditions. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the local Watch immediately.
