Explosion, Fire During Carnival in Southern Glen May 26, 2010

An explosion at the fortune-telling tent during the May Carnival in the Southern Glen brought the festivities to an unfortunate end between midnight and 1 AM last night.

The blast was reportedly localized within ten feet and the fire rapidly contained. According to passers by, the worst of the damage was done by flying debris.

At least five were injured, according to eyewitnesses, but that number remains arbitrary, as several wounded reportedly walked away from the scene.

"The ones I helped with were two," Dr. Maranya Ergin-Falconne, Chief of Staff at the Riverview Clinic, said. "But there were at least four more, three I did not aid, as there were others to do so. One left without treatment by me."

"Other than me," said Lilliana McClae, one of the ladies manning the fortune tent and this year's Beltane Queen. " my that's here visiting as my brother's wife's midwife, my cousin Vorn, and the ladies with him, I don' know....I couldn't see well for a while."

"There were lots of people going in and out of the tent," explained Rekah Illyriana, an eyewitness to the event and popular new dueling caller. " the fortune teller's tent exploded."

Added Illyriana: "I'd like to say, I didn't do it. At least not this time."

"This town needs to just stop hosting big social events," commented an eyewitness. "It never ends well."

By the time crews reached the scene, the crowd had already dwindled, leaving Governor Driscol with a long night of cleanup.

"I'm done being nice," added McClae later. "If I get the chance, I'm ripping out the next person's heart like they've been wounding me in mine! I'm sick of all the arrogant malcontents going about and hurting folk just because they feel like it!"

So far, the cause of the explosion is not known, and still currently under investigation.

"I'm just relieved that no one was killed," another witness said. "That had the potential to become very tragic very quickly. But thanks to the quick action by the people at the carnival, it seems we'll live to see another day."
