New clinic to help less fortunate opens in RhyDin August 8, 2010

RHYDIN — Mataru Frondaya, local businessman and entrepreneur, watched a dream unfold before his eyes these past months as a medical clinic to treat the poor and less fortunate was opened and began operating in RhyDin.

Frondaya, Director, expressed a humanitarian purpose behind Shambles Clinic, appropriately named for its convenient location in eastern RhyDin - a district locals refer to as "the Shambles."

"In the long years of my life," said Frondaya, "I have seen much suffering that could have been alleviated, but for the indifference of those in power. Having come into a position of money and power myself in the last few years, I was looking for a way to begin doing what I have hated others for not doing. The clinic is a noble ideal, and I hope to make a success of it."

The clinic, while only one of several community treatment facilities catering to the less fortunate, likely proves to be a resounding success despite its modest outward size and appearances.

"We have capacity to house 42 patients, with Healing and medical facilities besides," said Bettany Hul'Garin, Assistant Director. "The size of the plot is inconsequential; we were fortunate enough to be able to enlist the services of a mage in the building of the clinic. It is something of a TARDIS, in nature."

TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) is a Terran colloquial term and abbreviation that refers to the magically enhanced dimensions of the clinic's interior. Due to some tweaking of interspace, Nathaniel Hul'Garin, local mage on staff, has ensured a much greater capacity within the clinic than it would have without.

But unlike other heath care facilities in RhyDin, patient economizing isn't the only reason for the generous indoor dimensions. According to Hul'Garin, the clinic accommodates not only a patient's comfort, but the comfort of his or her family and friends as well.

"As I'm sure you are aware, there are times when a family may not wish to leave their loved one while they are in the clinic overnight," explained Hul'Garin. "So we provide facilities for their comfort. Priority is given as appropriate."

Patients themselves are reportedly triaged upon arrival, then, based upon severity of injury or condition, are either rerouted to a better-equipped facility in RhyDin or treated by one of the eighty-two currently employed Healers, medical, or nursing staff.

"Myself and Mr. Frondaya have been involved in every detail since the clinic's inception," said Hul'Garin. "It was his decision to have both Healers and doctors on site; Healing is the magical practice of medicine. The doctors see to the more mundane practices."

Added Hul'Garin: "The Healers will work with a patient who requires surgery to the point where they may be moved safely, and the case is then referred on to' a larger, better equipped facility elsewhere in the city."

By any standard, the attention paid to detail within Shambles Clinic is extraordinary - right down to the isolated, individual Healing Rooms located in the Challa Ward on the first floor specially designed for peace and quiet.

"The clinic was designed and built for a specific purpose," explained Hul'Garin. "Namely that of improving the health of those who cannot afford to pay for medical treatment, or those who will not travel further than the edge of the Shambles. The clinic runs itself within its budget, and has no need for fundraising to provide extra services at present."

"It is mainly through the kind donations of private citizens, such as myself and in comparable positions, that maintains the level of the clinic's funding," added Frondaya later. "This city is aware of the problems at its heart, and there are many who work to cut free the cancer before it spreads too far."

According to Hul'Garin, that public awareness has permitted the clinic to be relatively well received within the city, even if it is not officially recognized by the RhyDin government.

"The clinic was opened a matter of months ago, as part of a push by the then-Governor to improve standards of health among the poorer areas of the city," said Hul'Garin. "We are grateful for the current Governor's continued support of the project, even if he is unaware of it."

It seems like health care in RhyDin has a whole new standard, thanks to Shambles.

The clinic has already begun an ongoing recruitment drive for personnel, and has been advertising all around the city since mid-July. Of his current opinion with regard to the property's general purposes, Director Frondaya only had the following to say:

" express the wish that more people gave as much of themselves for the good of those who know no better as the dedicated staff of each and every medical facility, clinic and hospital in this city."

Those interested in applying for a position at Shambles Clinic are encouraged to contact Mr. Frondaya at his office.
