Officials Consider Hate Crime Charges in Kidnapping Investigation September 5, 2010

R.D., RHYDIN —- Authorities are currently looking into a kidnapping that took place in the Red Dragon Inn between the hours of three and five A.M. on Thursday, September 2nd.

The victim, an imp known only by family and close acquaintances as "Renne," was reportedly spending time with friends when a suspect outfitted in cobra-inspired armor approached the group.

"Without any warning, he just grabbed him," a witness* claimed. "We tried bullets, we tried magic? nothing seemed to work."

"The kidnapping was targeted, as the kidnapper said, to so-called surplus beings," said another eyewitness. "Which Renne is not. As for how many were present at the time, besides myself, five including the kidnapper and Renne."

Security officials for the RhyDin Watch claimed that they have begun to consider hate crime charges in addition to kidnapping charges.

"A reliable witness told us that the suspect seemed to be persecuting anyone not claiming to be what he called 'Jaffa.' As long as a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her membership in a certain social group, be it racially, religiously, sexually, or otherwise, it can still be considered a hate crime," said Michael O'Malley, Watch lieutenant. "Based on eyewitness testimony and data our analysts have come up with, we're beginning to see this as a real possibility."

A third bystander of the incident encourages wariness in regards to these "cobraheads."

"Claim that you are Jaffa and not surplus if these guys come around," said the witness. "Otherwise you might possibly get kidnapped."

No word yet on the current status of the investigation, but Watch members are urging RhyDin citizens to exercise caution when walking home late at night.

"If you can, get someone to walk home with you, and be aware of your surroundings," suggested O'Malley. "At least until we get this kidnapper off the streets."

A close friend of the victim expressed none of the optimism authorities seem to have regarding the situation.

"Whoever these kidnappers are, they must be stopped before they prey on any more innocent sentient beings."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact their local Watch precinct immediately.
