- The RhyDin Post's black and gold logo flashes with an epic, orchestrated introduction theme. The logo spirals off the screen, and displays a high-tech news studio with flat screen television sets, and a massive, glossy black desk. Two men sit behind the desk. To the left (Peter Pham) is in his early thirties, of Asian ethnicity, has gelled black hair, and is in a navy blue suit. To the right (Chris Reed) is of Caucasian ethnicity with dark brown hair, is in his late thirties, is wearing a khaki suit, and has a vertical scar running down one side of his face. Both men, equipped with headsets, smile at the camera. -

Peter: Well howdy do, folks. Didn't expect to see you again so soon, but the Post has received numerous requests for footage of the Overlord challenge, and would you believe it' We just happen to have such a thing.

Chris: How'd you get that camera in there, Pete" Were any of the Post employees present that night"

Peter: That's a secret there, Chris. But the answer lies in an anagram for antidisestablishmentarianism.

- Chris gets out a pen and paper and begins writing. Peter rolls his eyes. -

Peter: In all seriousness, though, this is one whopper of a match, RhyDin.

Chris: It certainly was, Pete. Even if it hadn't been a challenge for the Overlordship between Ticallion Carter and Anubis Karos, the trio of duels was a real nailbiter!

Peter: The challenge was a best out of three. This means that a competitor needs to win two out of three matches to either keep or take the title. The matches are won on a point system. In this case, the matches continue until a dueler reaches five points, or is a solid point above his opponent over five. Now, due to time constraints, we unfortunately aren't able to cover all three for you.

Chris: That's right; we're not, Pete. But what we can do is bring you the last match of the three.

Peter: The first of the three was won by Overlord Karos, by a one-point margin of five to four. The second was a breath-stealing comeback by Carter with a one and a half point margin of six and a half to five. What do you think about these two competitors, Chris"

Chris: Well to be honest, I'm going to have to keep my mouth shut about my favorite. I might get screamed at.

Peter: You like Karos, don't you?

Chris: I can't help it! Yeah, all right, the guy's profession isn't exactly something you'd want to broadcast—

Peter: - Interrupting. - Even though he does.

Chris: — but the Egyptian's got skill, Pete. He practically dances with the sword.

Peter: Carter's got a stronger record. The numbers here say fifty-two to the Overlord's twenty-one. Besides, Carter is just as talented a veteran as Karos. Our sources say he is part of the Wrecking Crew, which was a team back in the Team Dueling League who won in season 523.

Chris: That explains the jersey.

- Close-up on Ticallion's getup. Jeans, navy blue shirt, and Wrecking Crew baseball jersey with the number seven. -

Peter: Either way, from what we've viewed from the previous footage, these two spent a lot of time talking.

Chris: I think it was Fai who said that it's all about politics. The politics are just as important as the duels, he said.

Peter: That's a great observation on his part. I mean, when you look at the Fortis - Ashleana challenge"

Chris: Oh don't even get me started on that one. I could go on for hours.

Peter: You're right. That's another challenge for another day.

Chris: They don't pay us enough. Honestly.

- Peter pegs Chris with a pen. -

Peter: Introduce the damn fight, Chris.

Chris: - Laughter. - Alright, alright. Well, ladies and gents, we start this fight off already with both duelers a little worse for wear.

Peter: They're looking a little bloody there, aren't they"

- Zoom in on both Anubis and Ticallion as the fight commences, the camera searching out specific signs of fatigue. -

Chris: Swords matches are brutal, Pete. And if you don't get a long enough break between matches, you don't even get time to let the wards heal you up.

- Roll footage, Round 1. TH/HC Karos. -

Karos: Fluidly segues into his traditional stance as he came off of the taut cables aligning the ring, serpentine glyphs of antimony wavering within the prism of a slowly trailing rivulet of perspiration. Said rivulet cascaded towards the sands below as he erupted forward, foremost dagger aimed for the sternum as he ducked ever so slightly to avoid a cut.

Carter: He finally came off the ropes now, his jaw still set and determination still outlining his features. He mind reacts instantly to the opening rush from Anubis and he tries to accommodate by swinging the blade hard, fast and high to the oncoming Egyptian. He strike is narrowly evaded and he falls back with a loud "Grrk" as the dagger finds a home in his sternum once again tonight.

- Zoom in on Anubis's lunge. White arrow drawn over his shoulder to where Ticallion misses. -

Chris: Here you can see where the Overlord narrowly avoids a harsh cut up high as Carter overshoots.

Peter: He's spry for all that fatigue, Chris.

Chris: Karos is running on fumes at this point, Pete. It's either win this, or lose the Overlordship.

- End footage Round 1. Roll footage, Round 2. HC/LC 2-1 Karos. -

Carter: " Reverses direction of cross-cuts with the weapon as that grip loosens and swings it low, the edge looking for Anubis' calves. Deadset on landing his own strike, he's unable to prepare himself as the back dagger flays his shoulder effortlessly.

Peter: Ouch! Massive bloodshed! Both the Overlord and Carter aren't wasting time, are they"

Chris: Karos has got to keep the point lead if he expects to win, Pete. Once Carter gets a foothold, he charges straight ahead.

Peter: Be that as it may, both fighters need a round to recuperate, it seems. They spend the next dancing around each other to catch their breath.

- End footage, Round 2. Roll footage, Round 3 and 4. FSS/SH 2-1 Karos; LC/FCP 2 All. -

Chris: - Gasping. - Here we go, ladies and gents. This is where the real beauty of Swords is. Now" normally, a circular parry only earns a dueler a half a point. But because he gets Karos's onslaught with a skillful defend-and-counter, he gets a full point.

Peter: If I were the Overlord right now, I'd be wary of Carter going on the defensive.

Chris: He's having a stressful night, Pete. I wouldn't be surprised if he's having trouble keeping his cool at this point.

- End footage, Round 4. Roll footage Round 5. HC/FLP 2-3 Carter. -

Carter: He kept up with the defense, with the loose grip that he had fixed on the longsword now, defending was expending a lot less of that precious energy than lashing out with those strikes. As Anubis went high with the dagger, he reversed direction with the longsword and deflected once more. In goes the elbow for the second consecutive round.

Peter: Look at how he's owning up to his counters, Chris.

Chris: It's exactly as I said, Pete. Carter is a guy who knows how and when to use them. He's taking advantage of the Overlord's frustration and luring him in close.

- End footage, Round 5. Roll footage Round 6. FCP/FSS 2-4 Carter. -

Carter: His light brown eyes narrow, his strategy to defend and keep himself from the daggers for as long as possible seemingly working to his benefit now. He gambles now and steps forward in a feint, attempting to draw Anubis into a defense that he spins away from before he's even sure he has it. The elbow throws out blindly as he passes.

- Close-up on Anubis overreaching and the elbow landing on his temple. Slow motion. Action replay. -

Peter: Here Karos tries to get on board with a stellar defense, but he overshoots the parry and walks right into Carter's blow.

Chris: Ouch. I hope that wasn't too hard. He's got a match to finish.

- End footage, Round 6. Roll footage Round 7. SH/TH 3-4 Carter. -

Karos: A dagger was set out to capture the incoming blade within it's serrates, a dagger aimed for the swordarm once more.

Carter: He jabs the longsword forward aggressively now, looking to take that final point and end the night. And true to the rest of the night, he pays for his impatience. The longsword is caught by the waiting dagger and it's twin circles back to rip into his right arm yet again.

Chris: That's right, folks. It doesn't look like the Overlord is done yet! Blood flies as we see him deflect that oncoming thrust and get a hit in to incapacitate him' or at least his sword arm. Carter's got to be having trouble lifting that blade about now.

- End footage, Round 7. Roll footage Round 8. LC/FCP 3-5 Carter. -

Carter: Back to the defense he goes, sweeping the longsword out as quickly as he can once he spots Anubis coming in low with the dagger. With no room left to spare, he's able to jab the longsword into the path of the oncoming cut and knock the strike away. That left elbow comes up one last time and shoots out towards the Egyptian.

Chris: Go freakin" figure! Carter triumphs in the match and the challenge in a parry! I hereby name this guy Defending Demon. Overlord D.D.

Peter: That just might stick, Chris. But let's get a better look at that parry one more time.

- Zoom in on Anubis going low and on Ticallion's swift footing. Slow motion as he parries it aside. -

Peter: I don't know how he did it, but Carter jumped on that offense like a cat. The counter on top of it gives him the full point.

- Camera focuses on Anubis post-match. -

Karos: Slowly, he came to a stand, lips that had been desiccated by the effort drawing into a small smile. "I want you to know something, Overlord. You have earned my respect."

- Rewind. Play. -

Karos: "You have earned my respect."

- Rewind. Play. -

Karos: "You have earned my respect."

- Cross-fade back to the studio, where both men look completely stunned. Peter has removed his headset. He doesn't think he's heard it right. -

Peter: Did he just say what I think he said"

Chris: Yep.

- There is a long, awkward pause as both men stare blankly at the camera. Hell has iced over, it seems. Suddenly, they jerk into action, likely in response to frantic waving from their producer out of the shot. Chris grins like a fiend. -

Chris: I told you, man. Karos has got some guts.

Peter: You know" he's actually starting to grow on me, believe it or not.

Chris: Like it or not, the former Overlord is one of the best.

Peter: You're right about that, Chris, but the new Overlord certainly put on one hell of a show. My hat goes off to him. He's got some mad strategy to be able to pin Karos in a parry!

Chris: Both competitors did spectacularly, Pete, and I really hope we catch them roughing each other up again some time soon!

- Air footage, post-challenge. -

Karos: "I will be back, though." As he slipped from the ring.

Chris: - Laughing. - God we hope so.

- Roll credits. End tape. -
