The Top Ten Things to be Thankful for in RhyDin November 26, 2009

A few of us at the Post got together and had a little pre-turkey brainstorming. While Thanksgiving is primarily a Terran holiday, the universal day of thanks seems to have expanded past continents, planets, or even space. We were more than pleasantly surprised when readers wrote in and requested a Thanksgiving column! After all, most humans living in RhyDin actually were born here. So we find it incredibly fascinating that other humans— and a multitude of species, as well— adopt Terran customs! More than fascinated" we're thrilled!

Well, here you are, ladies and gents! Without much further ado, ten things you should be thankful for these coming holidays:

10. The Booming Economy Alright. No pun intended here, seeing as a percentage of business in RhyDin is considered "black market' industry. But realistically speaking, it's been a long time since RhyDin has been in an economic slump, and we probably have some smart businessmen to thank for that. Successful establishments like DeMuer Exports keep trade thriving here at home while talented freighter companies like the Fur"za Flyin" and McPhearson's ensure our business abroad flourishes. Assuming these guys (and gals) aren't going anywhere, hard-working citizens should be able to reap the benefits of a healthy financial system' And maybe one day become rich enough to afford one of the famous L"ks Condos!

9. A Clean Election So the gubernatorial election had a little bloodshed, but otherwise it was a pretty adequate turnover. Debates were civil, complete with very well informed candidates. And while some of the after parties got a little craaaazy, the overall electoral behavior was surprisingly agreeable! We only hope they'll keep up the good work!

8. The End of Prop 37 There was a ridiculous amount of dissent at the Post over this one. But let's face it— whether the bill passed or not, the notoriously turbulent campaign is over. We can all be thankful for the drop in violence following the failure of the anti-magic legislation, at least. And whether you were for or against the passage of Prop 37, we encourage you to welcome the peace that has come in its aftermath.

7. A Forgiving Nexus By now you have been swept up and dropped off by the all-powerful Nexus at least once, but realistically it could be much worse! Here's to hoping the Nexus will let us go about our daily lives from here on out with little interference. Seriously' we used to be whisked away without hardly being able to finish a sente—

6. Hot, Hot, HOT Fashion! One word: Koy. Koyliak Aldamiras VanDuran-Simon, one of the chief designers at the Heavenly Boutique, keeps RhyDin well dressed and fiiiiiierce! The spring line is apparently on the DL, but we have it under good authority that the HB has been flirting with the idea of pleats! Whoa whoa! Slap on some scales and call us orcs— we are so ready to see what?s up next season!

5. Free Drinks at the Red Dragon Inn In all honesty, the booze behind the counter probably comes out of somebody's paycheck. But once the good "ol tenders vacate the premises, about ninety nine point nine nine nine percent of us are guilty of swiping a bottle of Jager and forgetting to till a few tokens. Thankfully, Panther is considerate enough to look the other way. Maybe that should be his new advertising slogan' "If you can get away with it, it's on us!"

4. Dueling Title Rotations So while losing rank or Barony isn't exactly the most encouraging thing in the world, the constant influx of new challenges to the bulletin boards is certainly comforting! It means that the dueling pastime is by no means dead or dying. In fact, we are seeing more and more newcomers with dazzling ranks rushing into challenges headlong with no intimidation of their opponents? experience. Keep it up, newbies! And belated congratulations to the still-reigning Overlord!

3. A Give-It-Your-Best-Shot Police Force While the RhyDin Watch has had a particularly tough year, keep in mind that these folks are out there doing the dirty work to keep you feeling safe at home. The job is unfortunately pretty thankless, so when you see those Watch members out and about, why don't you give them a cheery hello' Holiday tips work nicely, too!

2. Citywide Events People here sure do loooove a good party, and thankfully RhyDin is never lacking in some huge occasion or celebration! Whether it's the famous Governor's Ball, Turkey Week's Taste of RhyDin, silent Art Charity Auctions, or the now-and-again birthday bash going down in the Inn or on the Isle, there is always fun to be had around! More important than an overall good time, these events usher in a kind of solidarity among RhyDinians, and rouse the everyday citizen out of his humdrum stupor enough to go out and make friends. Remember to check the Inn's bulletin board often to see the latest happenings going on around the realm!

1. Great Publications! We're not really tooting our own horn here, but let's face it— RhyDin has a slew of awesome journals and periodicals out there, from the Gossip GangSTAR to the Enabler, to the RhyDin Chronicle. And we, for one, are incredibly thankful that you, our loyal readers, have chosen the Post as the place to get the best news!

That's all for now, and remember to stay safe and sassy, RhyDin! Happy Day of Thanks from all of us at the Post!
