The young man hadn't been working for Customs too long when he caught the eye of a young woman. The woman was polished, with excellent manners and impeccable style. She was an adjunct to a neighboring city, she told the man over their first dinner. He was enchanted by her blue-gray eyes almost as much as he was with her connections. She was his ticket to the big time.

They spent many nights together. She took him to parties and introduced him to the cream of society. His head was turned by all the attention. He was getting noticed by his superiors, and soon was promoted. He told his lover everything about his new job. He found he couldn't help telling her everything after their intense bedroom sessions. She was like nothing he'd known before.

Three months passed. The Customs agent was now an officer in charge of several warehouses along the docks. One night the man told his woman about his plans to tighten regulations, and of the extra money he'd make when the new fees were released to the public. Tighter security and more paperwork meant the rates would nearly triple in a week's time. The woman smiled and praised him for his ingenuity. She kissed his lips and they slept together.

The next morning, the Customs officer didn't show up for his shift. He was never late, so a team was sent to his apartment. They thought maybe he'd been injured, or he had fallen sick. What they found was much worse. The officer was sprawled naked in his bed with a look of sheer terror on his face. His eyes stared blankly at the ceiling. Blood dribbled from the corner of his mouth. His lover was nowhere to be found.

An autopsy showed the officer died of massive organ failure. His heart, lungs, intestines, and bowels were ruptured, yet there was no trauma on his body. The official report stated he was murdered, and that his lover was missing and presumed dead.

During the officer's funeral, a black form watched from the shadows. No one noticed when the figure removed its hood, and a pair of blue-gray eyes shone cold as the man was lowered into the ground. The hood was pulled back over her face and she disappeared into the night. She had a report to give.
