Beltane Masquerade Ball - May 2nd - 9:30 PM EST start - The Band's Playlist for the Evening

Entering the main hall from the cool, crisp spring air the first thing one notes is how the air inside is as fresh, clean and temperate as the breezes of a warm May day. Of course, the hall is not at all as bright as a May day. Lighting had been chosen to create an intimate, enchanting and warm atmosphere. Music played by The Roving Bards and the Electric West End Orchestra by means no doubt magical and fantastical is being pumped at an absolutely perfect volume so as not to negate conversation, but to ensure that silences are flawlessly filled.

Over the music drifting toward the entrance, one may catch the distant, pleasant trill of a bird singing. http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k497/Pinkisnotevil/Beltane%202011/beltane_leaflightcurtains.jpg Men and women dressed in deep green livery and bearing leather leaf engraved half-masks in matching hue await those who arrive at the entrance to take cloaks, shawls, capes or jackets should they so desire and part the curtain of tiny green lights, nestled in small leaves that serves as the entry way into another world.

Dangling in strings and errant loops are miniscule crystals enchanted to glow a soft, warm white light, mimicking a summer sky full of stars. Heavy vines with edible fruit and berries crawl up and down supports, effectively hiding them from the eye and adding just another fantastic touch to the evening's decorations. Guests to the Great Hall might also note that there are no actual birds being confined or flitting about, that the sound is being piped in just as the music. The draped silk also makes it seem as if the Great Hall has become a great, sprawling tent. To help further this illusion, the sheer silk drapes to the floor in a few places, to create partitions of certain sections of interest. Though great panels and partitions tied back with more of those delightful leaf-lights found waterfalling over the entrance large sections remain open to keep it from becoming too sectioned off and to encourage party mingling.

The centerpiece for each table sits a magnificent example of natural spring flowers (non toxic and non deadly to humans and humanoids!) found about Rhydin. Hidden within their leaves, petals and steams are more miniscule little lights that dance and twinkle just as the lights above do. In the middle of each arrangement is a single white or bright green candle.

Having been invited to decorate the Great Hall, Oak, birch, pine and a few younger Ents (with parental permission of course and spacious pots, freshest spring water and best earth for the night) have been festooned with enchanting lights that shift between white and soft, muted green. There are other amazing lights to illuminate a night made for dreams: water lilies floating in water, pink cherry blossoms, frogs on lily pads. The floor for the Great Hall has been magicked to feel and look as if it were grass?but without any of the pesky issues, such as allergies, reactions, bugs, dirt, or trampling, sticking to expensive shoes, having heels sink into sod, or the tearing up that can come with real grass. To the nose, eyes and hand it appears well enough though it probably won't trick anyone who can see through such things.

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k497/Pinkisnotevil/Beltane%202011/dancefloor_lighting-1.jpg The dance floor is a generously cleared space, carpeted by the same illusionary grass. Hung from the draped silk ceiling are paper lanterns. They appear to bob and float along above as if in calm waters, suspended by nothing more than magic! The lanterns react to the music played accordingly; flashing jauntily along for fast songs, or diffusing low light for slow and stately. Groups of lanterns tend to halo dancers in random spring colors, anything from reds, pinks, blues, purples, greens, yellows, oranges and whites. Though thankfully, they do not change colors so fast as to become nauseating.

To the right of the dance floor, guests may find the tables laden heavily with fine food.

To the left of the dance floor, guests may be delighted to find an amazing assortment of drinks, some catered by Silver Mark Co; bottles of spring water, favorite beer, wines, and liquor can also be found. Wines and bottled or sealed spring water can also be swiped from one of the many trays carried by green liveried men and women silently willow-dancing about tables as well.

Enchantment, love, mystery and new beginnings are everywhere. The Great Hall whispers with spring promise.
