To the south of RhyDin city amidst rolling, forested hills a glen is nestled. It's a valley saturated with magic, a place sought out by creatures of the woods and humans seeking refuge from the city alike. Narrow towards the east, the glen opens up onto a small lake at the western end.

Caves and tunnels burrow into the surrounding hills, many still unexplored and hiding the treasures of the earth. Some have a faint light from coming within, some are just dark with shadow.

A small, under-traveled path leads to a glade west of the glen with a small pool off to the one side that is fed by an underground spring. The pool spills off into a small stream that winds its way through the trees until it eventually reaches the lake.

Citizens Day Air Show and Fireworks Display

The final day of Citizens Day Weekend sees the wrap-up of the Carnival in the Marketplace, and the arrival of an Air Show on Sunday evening in the Southern Glen.

Numerous historic and modern air craft will be on display in the Glen for citizens to walk around and explore before, during and after the air show itself. Monoplanes, biplanes, military aircraft and even an experimental glider used by the RASG will be there for people to view, touch and " for a few lucky visitors " possibly sit in the pilot's seat.

During the air show, which will begin at 8:15 sharp!, stunt pilots will awe and fascinate the crowds with their feats of derring-do, performing barrel rolls, dives and loops so extreme that everyone will want to hold their breath.

The Silver Mark Brewery will be hosting a large beer tent near the lake, where beer flight samplers of the brewery's wares can be tasted. Half-pints and pints of their most popular brews will be on sale as well to satisfy the thirst, and root beer and Zeppa lemon-lime soda will be on tap for the little ones.

Huge pots of both red and white clam chowder and loaves of crusty RhyDin sourdough bread can be purchased at the beer tent, or you may simply pack a picnic meal from home and enjoy a tasty dinner or snack while watching the show.

Don't forget to bring chairs or blankets with you to sit on!

After sundown, when the air show has concluded, a fireworks display will round out the evening, bringing this year's Citizens Day weekend to a close with a bang!

A couple of hours before the airshow was set to begin, Matt made one final walkthrough of the Glen. As he walked past both the RASG and non-RASG ships, arranged in neat rows, he smiled. As a child, events like this had spurred his imagination and his drive to become a pilot. He wondered if any of the children who would shortly dart between fuselages and wings and hardpoints would find their life's passion here, today. He hoped that some of them would.

The RASG's ships rested amongst other aircraft and spacecraft. Some planes were separated from the pubic's touching by security barriers but most remained accessible for up-close inspection. Several RASG pilots had donated their own craft for the event. Among those the public could walk up and touch, rest underneath in the shade, and enjoy were three P-64C Ferrets, one A-17 Broadsword, two F-27 Arrows, six Hellcat Vs, one HF-66 Thunderbolt VII, one F/A-76 Longbow, and even Matt's personal fighter, the outdated-but-retrofitted A-14 Raptor. Two of the Hellcats and the Broadsword had been made specially available to the public to climb inside the **** (the Broadswords turrets were also open for those who could fit to sit inside).

Away from the main rows of planes and ships, along with several other displays, the RASG had set up a series of booths. One was a recruitment station where those who wished could learn more about (and sign up to join) the Rhydin Air and Space Guard, its purpose, and their potential role within the organization, whether that role be pilot, navigator, gunner, maintenance technician, support staff, or a host of other duties necessary to keep the RASG both functional and efficient. This booth also had a small section dedicated to the memory of Miles Jaffey, the only RASG pilot to be killed in the line of duty, which had happened a few months before the Sanymato storm struck the city.

A second booth was filled with RASG merchandise including toys, shirts and jackets for adults and children, model ships, stickers, and lithographs of some of the RASGs most-used ships and equipment. Patches for each of the RASG's four squadrons (VA-301, the Firebees Atmospheric Defense Squadron; VS-103, the Vanguard Space Defense Squadron; VR-209, theKestrels Long-Range Reconnaissance & Early Warning Squadron, and VT-81, the Sunliner Training Squadron) were also for sale. There was even a dedicated section for children where parents could take a break from the sun while their little ones played with several toys designed to withstand the wear and tear only a child could unleash. Some of the RASG personnel had also arranged a few games and contests for children that took place under a lengthy canopy next to the booth.

On the other side of the canopy was the final booth. Two separate raffles were being held in this booth. Tickets for one raffle were available for a very low price, and multiple giveaways for items such as shirts and models would take place throughout the show. Proceeds from this raffle would feed directly back into the RASG. The other raffle, where tickets were avilable at a much higher cost, would only have one winner. The prize for that personwould be a ridealong for a flight in an RASG fighter. All proceeds from that raffle would be direct donations to the newly unveiled Rhydin Placement Project, a joint venture charity designed to, according to The Rhydin Post, " to the impoverished or those who have lost their homes due to disaster or evacuation, halfway housing to city newcomers who lack the resources or the connections to settle fully in RhyDin."

Placed throughout the entire setup were several people integral to the RASG - Robyn Pemberton, squadron leader of the 301st Firebees; Captain Jason Penske, who was the head of RASG recruitment; Richard McFadden, who held charge over the RASGs support and maintenance crews, and several RASG pilots, including Matt himself.
