ABOUT THE STARLIGHT THEATRE The Starlight Theatre is a unique Rhydin treasure with a vibrant past stretching back more than seventy-five years. After closing its doors in 2007, it sat empty until it was bought at auction in 2014. It reopened in early spring 2015, fully restored and with new management.

The Starlight's fa"ade reflects its heritage with a carefully preserved 1940s-style marquee that stands more than three stories tall. The interior continues the retro theme with lush red velvet seating, restored woods, geometric carpeting and tile, and gilt accents.

Mach wandered on down to the newly renovated theater, that sole cobalt eye taking in the swanky retro styling's that captured the heritage of the classic cinema experience. This was yet another impromptu decision made after getting an event nudge on his new phone though unlike the fright night festival the schmooze was attending this one solo thanks to the spectacle he made of himself due to his liquid diet there which made Regi less than keen to go out for more "fun" with the hunter. Then again, the poor madsci had been to two social events in one month already which was, honestly, two more than they were used to and/or cared for.

Decked out in much simpler swag than for fright night this eve he was sporting sneakers, jeans, a white button down, red pullover sweater, and a khaki bucket hat; all things he already had in his closet and oddly enough precisely what was needed to be Gilligan from some classic earthrealm television show which brought to question his sense in fashion' again. However bad such coincidences may have made him feel he certainly didn't begrudge the discount it provided as two off the movies was two more bucks that could be spent on nommies and booze. Then again he hadn't counted on folks smacking him with their hat or hat surrogates, an oversight on his part about that particular nuance of popular culture and some folks eagerness for an excuse to hit him.

Loading up enough treats, goodies, and intoxicants for several dates the schmooze settled in to the double feature of the classic Halloween series (as originals were almost always better than remakes if only for cult corn factor.) He didn't purposefully avoid improvised company but on the same note he didn't exactly make a point of weaseling in on any either; rather, simply letting the cards fall where they did. This really was an exercise in just putting himself out there after such a long time away, slowly steeping himself back in the culture. It was sort of how he'd spent his first month or so when first posted here except with much less paranoia and locking himself in his apartment to binge consume all the cultural media! Movies were good for that since there was a certain amount of audience ownership of the experience which leaned towards silent solidarity rather than rousing socialization.

Well, mostly silent. Mach found it pretty amusing watching a few of the people here and there jump and cringe away from the scares in the film which most readily showed it's age. Of course beyond just the obvious shortfalls of budget and production value for the time the hunter just wasn't really impressed with horror films in general. Hey, his day to day life as a hunter was pretty much a horror show of dealing with the morbid and grotesque! And while he had a much more acute sense of danger and paranoia around things like the blood trail through the forest for fright night he was pretty numb to anything such a pedestrian medium as film could throw at him. Film had never tried to steal his soul" well, okay, maybe once, but that was with many improbable and extenuating circumstances!!!

Finishing out the double feature in decent form, the schmooze worked on quickly absconding from the theater so as to try and avoid an altercation due to dwindling patience and a barrage of invariable hat smacks. All in all not a bad way to have spent some time, particularly since the illusionary wards his apartments made it so he never got any trick or treaters (and he wasn't that much of an ass to get a kick watching confused kids walking back and forth in front of his door trying to figure out what they were missing" well, not too much of a kick anyway.)

Paiva Harrington

Halloween

After a sixteen hour shift, Paiva showered at the station, changed into a black witch costume (complete with pointy hat and broomstick), and showed up at the Starlight theater for a double helping of Halloween. The classic thrillers served to distract her from endless days of work and a maudlin mood that she hadn't been able to shake for weeks.

Three Axe Murderers later, she giggled her way out of the theater and walked the long route home rather than hailing a cab. On the way, she had fun cackling at trick-or-treaters and pretending to fly into dark alleyways on her broomstick. She also prank called Rhys four different times, playing solicitor for a condom company ("we wanted to thank you for your order of five hundred condoms..."), a member of a local knitting group (did he want to join"), a woman selling life insurance (we know it's hell getting older, but we've got just the policy for you...) and a hair product saleswoman who didn't want to take "***k no!? for an answer.

The maudlin mood had been broken, at least for a little while.
