"Professor Zague, did you see this?" the lab assistant called the professor over to his monitor.

"Hmm?" By the time the absent-minded older man put down the print out he was reading and made his way over to his assistant's monitor, everything looked normal. "Leonard," the professor frowned down at the young man in his seat, "if I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times: I'm a very busy man! If you do not know how to use this equipment, I cannot expend precious time and resources to explain it to you."

"No! I—" the young man stuttered over his words as he was reprimanded. "It's just, there was a momentary...blip."

The professor raised his bushy, dark eyebrows, "A blip?"

"Yes." The young man swallowed hard and gestured at his monitor. "There seemed to be a distortion in time."

Professor Zague made a show of peering closely at the monitor before bringing his face very close to Leonard's. "I see nothing, young man." Then he straightened up, turned around, and walked back across the lab.

"Well, that's cause it's gone now," Leonard mumbled to himself.

Leonard was sitting at his desk at the Academy of Time and Space Travel.

It really was his dream job, working at the Academy. Ever since he was a little kid reading his favorite comic—Captain Time Lord—he had wanted to study time and space travel. And now he got to! Who cared that his mother reminded him every morning, when she woke him up off the couch in the living room of her one bedroom apartment, that it wasn't really a job at all since he was just an intern and didn't get paid"

Who cared that Professor Zague always yelled at him, didn't listen to him, and stole his lunch the other day even though the sticky note on it clearly labelled it as Leonard's"

And who cared that it was boring and almost nothing ever happened" At least nothing that the ancient technology the Academy used could pick up on.

All he did was stare at a computer monitor all day while he daydreamed about Leslie, the girl who worked at the coffee shop on the corner. He was daydreaming about her right now. Her red hair had been braided this morning, and he swore she had smiled extra wide when she asked if he wanted one or two sugars in his coffee, as if she didn't know! It was a game they played. Just like when she got his name wrong every morning, calling him Edward. She was such a tease. Maybe Leonard would go back during lunch today and ask her—

His monitor started beeping. Leonard frowned and scooted closer to it. The beeping escalated.

"Professor...I think you might want to take a look at this."

From RhyDin News Network: Residents of RhyDin are reporting strange fluctuations in time throughout the city beginning at 12:01am this morning. Initial reports include people suffering with amnesia that covers a day to fifteen years at the longest; citizens who have not been seen in a decade making a reappearance in the city; people are regressing in age; and buildings that have long been demolished resurfacing once more.

The nonprofit Academy of Time and Space Travel has looked into the phenomenon and declared it to be the result of the strange occurrence known as "Leap Day".

For those unfamiliar with "Leap Day", it is the unnatural addition of an extra day to the mortal month of February every four years. The Academy would like to assure the public that the effect should only last for a few days before everything returns to normal. At least for another four years.

"Leap Day is quite the unusual occurrence," Professor Zague, head of the Academy, said in a statement today. "We're really quite fortunate to be able to study it!"

Local Watch stations are expected to be receiving an unusual amount of complaints over the next few days until the time fluctuations are resolved.
