Live Play event moved to Saturday August 4th

OOC Information

Note: No IC information on Burning Rhy’Din will be publicly released until June 30th except to “volunteers”. I am posting this up now to give people an opportunity to plot, plan, and get creative.

What it is Burning Rhy’din is set to be an eight day community event set for July 21st-Aug 4th. There will be a mixture of forum events and at least one live event. It is obviously modeled directly after Burning Man, as a fictional expansion of the year-long, world burn events.

Forum events will offer characters an opportunity to express themselves creatively. There will be posts set up for Theme camps, art installations, builds, and outfits—because what your wear is absolutely a way of participation—as well as giving opportunities for those participating by being present.

When it is

Live event is planned at this moment for the 27th(Friday) or 28th(Saturday) of July and will be the closing of the community which includes the final Burn. It will mostly be a party type setting, more to come.

As of right now I am planning to hold this on Discord in a server set up specifically for Burning Rhydin. I will post an invite link on the 20th of July for people to poke around—and play. This is an experiment in using a server for a big event like this.

If there is interest, I would also like to do another live event in the middle of the week, more of just a general showcase, to be held on RDI.

As always, there will be available icons, TBA.

Anyone interested in being a “volunteer” during the event can PM or IM me on Sira or Alea (on RDI/DM or discord) or Onestepmercy on Trillian.

Participation

There are many ways for people's character to participate. Burning Man is a temporary community that comes together forming a village made up of different theme camps and installations.

Camp layout

Theme Camps

Theme camps are groups of established participants who come together to provide a service, entertainment, art or other interactive experience. It is NOT required that you join a theme camp, however this is a great way for people to come together.

For Burning Rhy’Din, camps that provide services (food, drinks, lounges, etc) or entertainment (music, interactive art, etc) will consist of 3-5 characters. You are allowed to use PCs, NPCs to flesh out the rosters. Feel free to use multiple characters. There are plenty of slots available, so don’t be afraid to claim multiple. Work with other camps to create a mega camp!

In the interest of having a variety of themes, I am asking that groups or individuals “register” their themes now. All that is required is a name, brief description, and service/entertainment/art provided, and campsite #. You are welcome to make changes up until the event, so don't feel locked in.

People who want their themes to be a surprise can DM me (on Alea or Sira). I'll only ask people to change if there are two themes that are exactly identical. (Otherwise please post in this thread below)

Examples: Theme: Desert Nights Set up: Airy tent, rugs, floor pillows Service: Lounge, coffee/tea, water Campsite #: 1

Theme: Drum circle Set up: Open, drums of all shapes and sizes Service: Collaborative music Campsite #: 13

The Theme Camp thread will be set up for camps to post visuals, longer descriptions, and roster. Include what NPCs (if any) will be doing so people can interact!

Ground Rules

1. Keep it PG-13 within the CE threads. If you want to use the setting for your own devices, do so within your own threads/folders. 2. Please no overtly sexual themes. (no brothels) 3. Please refrain from illicit drug themes (no opium dens) 4. However, this is not a family friendly event; no child characters wandering the playa, please.

Installations

The next way to participate is to put up an installation. This could be a sculpture, art piece, mutant vehicle, etc. Installations can be integrated into a theme camp, so I strongly encourage folks to collaborate! Otherwise, installations will be registered just like theme camps, only they can be by solo characters and do not require any interaction.

Mutant vehicles are....well. Vehicles that have been mutated into something else. A quick google search can provide copious examples. Regular non-man powered vehicles aren't allowed at Burning, so to have a vehicle in the setting it MUST be mutated. Since these are not stationary they do not need to be registered beforehand.

Setting Information

Burning will take place in the desert south of Rhy'Din city. There will be shuttles from the city and portals set up for ease of access. The set up is so characters can either stay for the duration or come and go as they please.

Picture a sea of white sand, rolling dunes giving way to mountains in the distance. For eight days this lush scenery will be host to an arcing array of life flocking together for the purpose of living art. The sand is flat and firm enough to support the villages, centerpiece, and even vehicles.

The camps will be set up in concentric rays forming a semi-circle around the centerpiece.

The centerpiece sits directly center of the camps, a three story tall gilded cage. Constructed entirely from wood, but built strongly enough to support a few people at a time climbing the ladders to the second floor doors or up to the third floor balcony.

The left door is marked “hope” while the right door is marked “fear”. Participants are encouraged to explore the piece and add to it by carving into the wooden doors that will not be opened until the end of the event for the final burn.

At night the cage will be lit up in golden lights.

The Spirit of Collaboration

The whole purpose of community events is to bring everyone together. The set up for this event is intended to spark collaboration and creativity between players.

However, not everyone has regular play partners and not everyone is comfortable with asking others to play, so I am using this event as an effort to shake things up.

Do you have an idea for a theme camp, but don't have at least 3 people" Or do you not have 5 and wouldn't mind adding on a couple extras" Post here "advertising" for more players.

Or are you totally clueless on a camp idea and want to jump in with some other folks" Ask here!

If folks don't want to directly advertise here they can also DM me (Alea or Sira) and I'll play matchmaker.

FAQs

1. Theme Camps can only be one of a theme, but can they be the same service" Yes! Theme camps can have the same service as another camp so long as their theme is different. For instance, bar/lounge or dance themes are popular. One could be Under the Sea, another could be Disco Fever, etc, etc.

2. Can a camp be all NPCs/why does it have to be 3 people? Yes, a camp can be all NPCs. They don't need to have profiles, you just need to describe their function to the camp.

The 3 person camp minimum is two-fold. First, if there are 3 in the camp this means your characters are free to roam the festival as well as participate within your own camp. Second, it is to give people a good reason to collaborate and participate with each other.

Theme: Field of Light

Set up: A large tent faces the centerpiece made of blackout material, kept closed during daylight hours. The only indicator of what is inside is a black board above the front flap with a white bolt of lightning. Inside the tent, the darkness is broken by a mad scientist's laboratory of experiments in paranormal electromagnetism—-lichtenberg designs imprinted in glass, magnetized spheres orbiting magic circles in the sand, crackling globes that allow all who touch them to leave elaborate trails of light in their wake, and a self-contained lightning storm in the center of the tent.

At night, the tent flaps are lifted so that the light show can be seen by passers by.

In the dark, stretching out onto the playa behind the tent is a field of light formed by row after row of shining lights. There is no clear power source, but they remain lit well after the sun sets.

Visitors are invited to wander among the lights—-but only at their own risk! On stormy nights, the light field doubles as a lightning field, harnessing the power of nature itself.

Announcement:

Due to the fact that I've been feeling pretty crappy, I have elected to push back the "Final Burn" live event until August 4th. It can just be assumed that this is a two-week long festival.

Anyone who'd like to use the setting for live play throughout the week can use the Burning Rhydin server I have set up. People are also more than welcome to use the content channels for pictures, camp descriptions, etc.

Note that this lacks the security measures that Rings of Discord has, but it's also meant to be a temporary server.

For those who do not want to use Discord, please use the IC thread for the same purpose.

Thanks, errybody!
