ABOUT THE STARLIGHT THEATRE The Starlight Theatre is a unique Rhydin treasure with a vibrant past stretching back more than seventy-five years. After closing its doors in 2007, it sat empty until it was bought at auction in 2014. It reopened in early spring 2015, fully restored and with new management.

The Starlight's fa"ade reflects its heritage with a carefully preserved 1940s-style marquee that stands more than three stories tall. The interior continues the retro theme with lush red velvet seating, restored woods, geometric carpeting and tile, and gilt accents.

Jul is always a fun and happy occasion for Shy. Those who know her, know she adores the Winter celebrations. Now when she found out about the special double feature being shown at the Starlight Theatre on Christmas day, and that it was a matinee only, she spoke to Victor about going to see the films. He agreed. They decided to dress casually for the jaunt into town.

She purchased their drinks (Christmas Sangria) and he bought a bunch of snacks for them to munch on (including buttered popcorn and milk duds). Needless to say, both thoroughly enjoyed watching It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street on the big silver screen.

It was a nice outing for the two of them, and they considered it a little holiday gift to each other!

With special permission, Mahayla collected a group of children from the orphanage (the one she'd contributed to for years) and took them to the theatre. She chose the Gremlins and Nightmare Before Christmas selection, and bought each child their own order of treats. Popcorn, boxes of candy, Christmas cookies, whatever they wanted. Some chose soda, others ordered hot chocolate. While the movie played, Mahayla chose to watch the kids' faces rather than the large screen. She derived her pleasure in their pleasure. Happy, uncontrived moments as these were few and far between in her life.

When the last credits rolled, she ushered the group from their seats and back to the line of limousines waiting in the parking lot.

It felt like too little, too late, but one would never know it by the glee on so many tiny faces.
