Who doesn't love a parade? Everybody loves a parade!(1)

On Saturday, 10 September 2016, Rhy'din will be celebrating Citizens Day properly with a parade! All are encouraged to participate, whether it be with a float covered in flowers, joining a marching band, or just walking and waving. Or any combination of the above!

The parade will muster outside of the South Gate, then go through Old Temple and across to Dragon's Gate, over through Old Marken, and then back down through Old Temple and out. There will be plenty of room along the parade route for anyone who wants to stake out their spot for a good view!

Water and relief stations will be available at regular intervals along the route.

(1) - except for those people who don't, because we're all different and that's okay!

((Feel free to post descriptions of your character/group's entries in the parade. Photos that evoke the look that you have in mind are welcome, even if it's not exactly dead-on. :) ))

The first musical entry in the 2016 Citizens Day Parade will be the Rhy'din Festival Orchestra. Riding atop a long open-air float decorated with swirling patterns and musical notes, this assemblage of musicians from across the city will regale parade watchers with a variety of celebratory tunes ranging from native Rhy'din compositions to music from Faerie, Earth, and many other realms.

The Seven Towers Orphanage, newly renovated and with a new lease of life, decided to enter a fairy tale castle, complete with many princes and princesses from within their own walls to celebrate the parade this year, throwing confetti high and wide, and maybe a few pamphlets on how to adopt one of the several very special children who currently call the orphanage home.

The Starlight Traveling Theater took some time out from their daily routine to enter a float of their own in the parade entitled "Arabian Nights", which features cast members in their roles from the play of the same name currently running at the Shanachie Ampitheater until September 18th.

The residents of Old Market district along with volunteers of the Kids of Summer Foundation built a forest themed float. A few of children in the foster homes supported by the foundation got to have a ride on it along with some of the more magical employees of Kids of Summer and House of Summer, sharing some sparkle and harmless fireworks along the way.

It should come as no big surprise when The White Stag Pub along with the Anchors Aweigh Inn enters a float for the Citizens Day Parade. This Norse langskip (longship) will be manned by actual Vikings (singing & playing musical instruments), and pulled by real horse power ....six strong and beautiful clydesdales.

Preceding the float on the day of the parade are several family members of Shy's crew, all dressed in traditional attire. The older children are having a grand time performing a special Norwegian folk dance for the spectators along the parade route. Everyone certainly seems to be enjoying the festivities!

WHAM! 101.1FM Citizens Day Parade Float

WHAM! 101.1FM was proud to present their parade float for the Citizens Day Parade. Covered in flowers and the WHAM! 101.1FM logo, the float also hosted a wide array of the WHAM! studio personalities like Ghee Buttersnaps, Felicia Fancybottom, Ovaltine Jenkens, and everyone's favorite shapeshifter, DJ Zazzy Yas. A few interns were on the float, too, using the T-shirt launcher to blast extra WHAM! BoozeFest T-shirts into the audience. Other interns were walking beside the large boombox float passing out little bright blue bags of candy and chocolates.

Team Dirty rolled through the parade in style. The decked out, pink and black '61 Impala pumped a number of bass heavy (but family friendly lyrically) tunes while a handful of team members sat on the back and threw out swag like candy, pink and black beaded necklaces, and rolled up t-shirts in a variety of styles and sizes.

The children of Dragon's Gate Orphanage were pleased to present their very own dragon headed parade float. Built with some grown up help but decorated by little hands, a number of excited children rode the float from start to finish. Goodie bags filled with candy were either thrown to the crowd or possibly pilfered by sneaky floatriders, while several house parents walked alongside the float to ensure their safety and to hand out information on the children's home to interested parties in the crowd.

Just behind the Dragon's Gate Orphanage float came the Farron-Queen Youth Centre entry. The older kids, some wards of DGO or other children's homes, some not, elected to go with an oceanic theme thanks to the youth center's Dockside location. For younger spectators, the teenagers gave away balloon animals, swords, and flowers.

Hope for Paws Animal Shelter is represented in the Citizens Day Parade with a cute float of their very own. Several adorable animals currently up for adoption also ride on the float with volunteers from the non-profit organization. Small packets of individually wrapped Kitty Gummies and Puppy Gummies are happily tossed to the onlookers. Printed on each packet are the shelter phone numbers: 555-WANT-PET and 555-HELP-PET.

Business has been flourishing at Matilda's Bloomers ever since the announcement of the Citizens Day parade! A plethora of orders for float flowers have already been filled, and when a trio of fairy princesses stop by the flower shop requesting Matilda's help with their float she couldn't refuse!

The Shanachie offered something a little different this year. Volunteers from the cast and crew, not to mention the STARS, made up a group of lion and dragon dancers, wending their way in excited fashion back and forth in their own section of the parade, having more fun minorly terrorizing the crowd than anything!

A huge brightly colored float made it's way down the parade route. It had to be huge since close to one hundred children were riding on it. From the looks of things, they had decorated it too. A sign declared the theme, "Why I Love Rhy'din!" All along the float were posters of what the children loved about their new home.

All the children were orphans, and anthros. They'd been rescued a few months ago from intolerable situations and were living now in a special home provided by Andu Kirost.

The posters ran the gamut from pets, to bedrooms, to friends. Homes and families seemed to be a common theme though. Perhaps the biggest reason they loved Rhy'din could be summed up in one word, hope.

Behind the Gaia's kids float was one from the newly formed Katz Troop of the Rhy'din Scouts.

The kids had worked hard with some help from the adults to make a float that represented some of the fun things they did as scouts. Eleven scouts, some kittens, some kids, and one rabbit anthro, rode on the float in their uniforms.

They surround a scene of camping fun, and prominently displayed was their scout oath.

They all seemed to be having the time of their lives.
