Despite the cancellation of the Sarengrave House opening due to a fire, the carnival and dedication went on as scheduled.

Ribbon cutting was set for 1pm, Sunday, with Governor MacLeod-Fenner, some of her family, and several dignitaries there to dedicate what was officially named Dockside Emergency Services & Medical Center (DESMC). The three Watch and Fire Brigade buildings, being dedicated by former Governor Ebon Ilnaren, were already in operation. Two hospital ships, christened Stardreamer's Wish and Anvil's Hammer, the latter currently open for tours, were moored at the Docks. The third ship, Arcadia Afloat, was moored in Seaside. The ships had been named in honor of those that had donated them and refitted them. Several rescue boats dotted the coastline.

The main hospital building was opened. The pediatric wing was named in honor of Myria Graziano. It was the only part of the building to have an additional dedication. The cafe/snack bar was serving free food, ice cream, and nonalcoholic beverages. The women's center still had a few things that needed to be finished, but it was operational. The ground floor was identical to that of the main hospital. Several small apartment buildings housed nursing and medical students.

As Colleen surveyed the results of the past year's and still ongoing work, she smiled. "It's quite amazing what can be done with some warehouse buildings and the help of many people."

(( Author's Notes: I had planned on a live event for this, but life has gone awry for me right now. This is now a board event. The DESMC is open for business and is a public venue. Permission is NOT required to use it in your play or stories.

Collie will be delivering the first baby born in the women's center. If you have a character in need of those services, please drop me a PM. The buildings have been made with tech and magic that rebuilds what?s needed.

The ships were named for Ebon Ilnaren, Kruger Allen, and Aja Bird.

Pictures of the finished models and those in progress are located here. Enjoy! ))

And, the most flamboyant of the governor candidates showed up to open a large space under an open tent. A banner reading 'Bikes, Trikes, and Boards' was unfurled, along with a few 'Pharlen for Gov' and 'Vote for Panda' posters here and there. Stuffed Pandas were available as well.

Racks of bicycles, ranging from twelve inch sidewalk bikes with training wheels to twenty seven inch mountain bikes waited along with an array of tricycles, including a few adult sized trikes and recumbents. Additionally, there was a rack of skateboards, ready to shred. None were brand new, but all were in excellent repair, and had their pneumatic tubes replaced with solid tires where applicable.

A trio of rather confused male mechanics worked under the tarp, giving demonstrations on bike and board care and repair, under a banner reading 'South Whittier Bicycles' – don't worry, Pharlen will send the gents back when and where they belong soon.

All one had to do was to request a bike, trike, or board, and Jackie or Pharlen or one of the other helpers would lift one down in the proper size for the rider, and then they would receive a new helmet, airbrushed with either monsters, princesses, or flames. A padlock and cable went along with the bikes.

Lessons were provided, of course, in a nice clear area. Cones were set up to give the new riders some guidance.

Those bringing in their own bikes would find expert service advice and assistance, but the old guy working on truing the rims was usually a little grumpy. However, if one wanted to learn to re-spoke a wheel, this was the guy to talk to.

"These are cheap and easy transportation, not to mention fun for the kids, and have the potential for employment as well, delivering messages or goods," Pharlen noted with her best Betty Furness smile to anyone asking why she was handing out the bikes and boards.

((Why yes, I was a bike mechanic and worked for my dad, uncle and grampa for years! :D Hope everything is okay, Collie!))
