Why did he do this to himself" The man dealt with the morbid, the grotesque, and sheer nightmare fuel on a day to day basis; so why in the hell was he showing up at carnival dedicated to exactly all that and more on his off time!" Food, drink, and merriment - that's why. Plus it helped that no matter how unnerving everything may have been (looking at you creepy ferry dude and shadow sprites) it was (mostly) safe. Sort of like hunter lite version, all the fizz and none of the calories.
Snazzing up in a striped black and white suit the man went the distance to take on that most grandiose skeletal figure. Of course it was a drop in the bucket to the sheer amount of body paint his Sally was adorned with to hide delectably pale and freckled skin with the hue of dead, stitched together flesh. Quite the pair the two made as they strolled through the festivities, taking in the sights and sounds while enjoying the myriad selection of treats and libations.
Trying his hand at the pumpkin carving, well, lets just say the man 'failed' at it:

Apart from that the man near had to drag Foxy away from making a little voodoo doll keepsake of himself as he wasn't one to tempt his fates with such. He hadn't lived this long as a hunter by being willy nilly with the dark arts! Then again he did spy one on display that looked disturbingly familiar:

Oh sure, it could have been one of Race rather than himself (they both had a certain....reputation....that proceeded them), but he opted not to risk it and bought this for his date instead (after making sure it had no hairs or such attached to it because paranoia.) All in all it was a rather enjoyable evening, even if he may have walked into a few of the 'tricks' that awaited patrons about the festival (no one had ever accused him of being over observant or having an abundance of sense.)
