The glen's been fussed with a bit.
Pools of color and texture lapped at the base of the May Queen's dais. An arbor of young birch trees centered on weathered cedar planks gone silver. From the cross pieces of the arbor drip flowers and ribbons, large galvanized buckets at the base of the uprights overflow with matching bouquets. The Queen's throne, a high backed pale wood affair fashioned to look as though it'd been grown rather than created by man (and gave the impression that it was indeed still live), decked with greenery and spring herbs sat slightly off center, stage right. Beside it, less than arm's distance is the matching throne for her chosen King.
In front of the dais are the scaffolds that will, when lit, become the Bonfires.
Beneath the spreading limbs of nearby trees a river of potted flowers pooled and eddied around the legs of rough seeming trestle tables that groan under the weight of the offered feast. Jars hung from the branches overhead, candles in their bellies to add their pale, butter-gold light.
Cloth covered gazebos with sheer curtains tied back to let in the night air and mood of the evening. Thick, sumptuous carpets are layered over the grass to create the illusion of a floor. Low slung, sink-into-me sofas with colorful throw pillows, and piles of floor cushions under the canopies. The cross beams and uprights of the structures are strung with fairy lights fashioned in the shape of flowers on the vine, bud and bloom.
Alternating between these tributes to the comfort of some, are rougher campsites. Fire pits inside circles of rough stone placed in the grass. Hewn logs as seating, with piles of dry firewood stacked just so within easy reach of the fire rings. Bedrolls there, still tied and ready for use.
The natural with the not-so-natural, the old beside the new. Near privacy and intimacy balanced with the feeling of community and belonging.
