Snowstorm Hannibal Emergency Shelters, Open Friday at 6 a.m.

In response to Snowstorm Hannibal several organizations have turned their properties into shelters for the homeless and others who need help weathering the severe conditions. Below are shelters opened by Dominion Exports and their affiliates:

Dominion Exports Corporate Headquarters, New Haven Dominion Capital Investments, Seaside Zeppa Soda Company, Old Market Silver Mark Pub & Brewery, Dragon's Gate Barony of Saint Aldwin Trade Office, WestEnd Green & Green Shipyard, Dockside Silver Mark HQ, Old Temple

Ander ConColor has been corresponding with the CEO of Dominion Exports and has added the following shelters to the list,

ConColor Nightclub ConColor Garden Towers

plus the opening of ten new portals throughout the area to facilitate transportation during the storm.

Dominion Exports would like to extend its thanks to Mr. ConColor and all others who are helping the community prepare for this event. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay green!

((I've noticed several other posts out there describing shelters and other services during Snowstorm Hannibal, and I thought it might be convenient to have all the resources listed in one place - so anyone who wants to add something here, you're more than welcome! Thanks to the player of Poppy Welby for running this SL!))

Snowstorm Hannibal Safety Tips

Snow" S"No Problem When You're in the Know!

If a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for your area, that means that hazardous winter weather conditions (such as snow greater than 6 inches in 24 hours, winds gusting over 35 mph, or visibilities less 1/4 mile) are expected in the next 12 to 36 hours. You should prepare for the worst now:

" AT HOME OR WORK MAKE SURE YOU HAVE:

o a working flashlight, lantern, or other magical lighting device o battery powered weather radio, radio, TV, data console, magic orb o extra food, water, medicine, baby items, extra food for pets and other animal companions o first aid supplies o heating fuel (propane, kerosene, fuel oil, fire breathing dragon, etc...) o emergency heating source o fire extinguisher and smoke detector

" IN CARS, TRUCKS, CARRIAGES, HOVERCRAFTS, SPACE SHIPS AND OTHER TRANSPORT VEHICLES:

o fully check and winterize your vehicle o keep your gas tank, external liquid fuel tank, mana console, etc. near full o try not to travel alone o let a friend or relative know your timetable for travel o carry a WINTER STORM SURVIVAL KIT which contains:  blankets/sleeping bags  flashlight with extra batteries  knife  high calorie, non-perishable food  a smaller can and water-proof matches to melt snow for drinking water  sand or cat litter  shovel  windshield scraper  tool kit  tow rope  jumper cables  water container  compass  road maps  amulet, prayer beads, stuffed animal or other item of comfort

If a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for your area, that means that hazardous winter weather conditions (such as snow greater than 6 inches in 24 hours, winds gusting over 35 mph, or visibilities less 1/4 mile) are expected within the next 12 hours or are already occurring.

" IF CAUGHT OUTSIDE:

o Find a dry shelter. Cover all exposed parts of the body. o If shelter is not available:  Prepare a lean-to, wind bread, or snow-cave for protection from the wind.  Build a fire for heat and to attract attention. Place rocks around the fire to absorb and reflect heat if magical means are unavailable.  Do not eat snow. It will lower your body temperature. Melt it first. Avoid all together if it is yellow.

" IF STRANDED IN A VEHICLE:

o Stay in your vehicle! o Run the motor about ten minutes each hour. Open the windows a little for fresh air to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure the exhaust pipe is not blocked. o Make yourself visible to rescuers:  Turn on the dome light at night when running the engine  Tie a colored cloth to your antenna or door  Raise the hood after the snow stops falling o Exercise to keep blood circulating and to keep warm o Keep an eye out for any potentially threatening creatures or demons that may wish to take advantage of your situation.

? AT HOME OR IN A BUILDING:

o Stay inside! o If there is no heat or fire-using mage available:  Close off unneeded rooms  Stuff towels or rags in cracks under doors  Cover windows at night o Eat and drink. Food provides the body with energy and heat. Fluids prevent dehydration.* o Wear layers of loose-fitting, light-weight, warm clothing.
