Topic: The Temple of the Divine Mother: The Cleanse ((OOC Thread))

Tensions continue to mount in the city ever since the protests that took place in early December. The tension will culminate in a city-wide event on Tuesday, February 14th. Some characters have already been informed that this event will be happening. On Tuesday afternoon, the message will begin to spread through the city at large.

IC Summary On Valentine's Day, The Temple of the Divine Mother is going to attempt to cleanse the city of all non-humans.

There are several parts to this plan: 1) The Temple is going to cast a spell across the city that removes the power/magical ability of non-humans and gives it to humans for the night. The spell will be in effect from approximately 8:00pm EST until sometime after 10:00pm EST when it is shut down.

To make the spell work, priests will make sacrifices in different neighborhoods. For example, they may sacrifice an elf in a predominately elven neighborhood to transfer the magic from the local elves to the Temple people. A dwarf in a dwarven neighborhood and so on.

The spell will give the transferred magic to *any* humans in the area. The Temple believes that this will encourage other humans to join them in their righteous battle.

However, there are major limitations to the spell: (a) We all know how well magic works in RhyDin, so that will limit its effectiveness. (b) There is no way that the Temple can use an elf sacrifice (for example) to steal the magic of all elves everywhere. All elves are different. (c) Mallory's graffiti contest helped disrupt the effectiveness of the spell throughout the city.

You and you alone get to decide if the spell effects your character.

2) The Temple will have their members scattered throughout the entire city with orders to attack and kill all non-humans. These members will be armed with a variety of weapons like iron to use against faeries and holy water to use against vampires and good, ol" fashion swords and guns. Many of them will be wielding magic (some stolen via the spell in effect).

The Temple members will still continue their attempted cleanse even after the spell has been shut down.

How can I play along" I have tried to make this SL as open as possible so that everyone can play along (or not play along) in any way that they wish. I hope that everyone can join the SL in their own way.

When the cleanse begins, there are several ways for your character to participate (or not): 1) Your character (unless they have been informed by someone beforehand) can find out that something is happening once a playable is posted on February 14th but not sooner. From there...

2) Your characters can be too busy with their steamy V-Day plans to notice anything is going on.

3) Your characters can hide in their house until it's over or take refuge elsewhere.

4) Your characters can be a hero by defending their neighborhoods. All Temple members that are out in the city for the cleanse are open game to do with as you please: reason with, detain, disable, or even kill.

5) Your characters can go on the offensive and seek out Temple members participating in the cleanse to attack. All Temple members that are out in the city are open game to do with as you please. Merry hunting!

6) Your character can create/run/support/defend a safe haven for all people to seek refuge.

7) Your character can join the Temple in trying to cleanse the city of non-humans.

If you have questions on what is okay and what is not, PM me.

What can't I do" While this SL is open, I am asking my fellow players not to do several things:

1) Please do not solve the issue that the SL has brought about. Your character cannot stop the Temple from casting the spell, prevent the spell from affecting the whole city, or prevent Temple members from attacking the city at large. If you have created a certain neighborhood or area of the city, it is obviously yours. Do with it what you will :)

2) I have given everyone a lot of OOC knowledge about what is going to happen next week. Do not have your character magically know all the things that you now know. Your character should not know the date this is happening. Your character should not know that the Temple is planning to do this. On Tuesday night, your character should not know immediately that the Temple is behind what is happening. Your character should not know the extent of what is going on before it is revealed to the community at large. Your character should not be able to discern that there is a major spell in place, where it's originating, and how to stop it (though they may know the first two).

3) Your character cannot stop the Temple at large or the spellcasters. Everyone else is encouraged to play into the purge/attack on the city and be the hero of their own mini-part of the SL.

Final Comments I would really like for everyone to have fun with this and use it as a means to further their own character or just have a good time.

If you write any posts related to this event, please link below.

As always, please contact me via PM with any questions.

Enjoy!
