One With Runes

I shouldn't be here...

Footsteps kicked up the dirt between the cobblestone blocks beneath booted feet, while hands stuffed deep in pockets balled into fists.

Isn't a place for a young lady to be...

Her brothers voice plagued her mind as hazel eyes darted left and right before she slipped through a break in two buildings, retracting her stele and drawing something along the wall. Bricks shifted, and opened to reveal lights brighter than Vegas. The Black Market opened up to her, the glow filtering against her pale skin as she stepped through with little hesitation.

Didn't matter where her sources came from, just that they were reliable. Change clinked in her pocket as she walked with purpose down the carpet strip that cut through the middle of the market. As she passed booths, they quieted at the clack of her heeled foot, while others seemed to close so suddenly. She didn't let her eyes stray from the goal.

There was a booth dead center, and as she prowled forward toward it, the man behind it who seemed not to fear her presence. An easy smile was given as he leaned against the counter. "What is it I can do for ya?"

"Information I know you've got. How much are you askin for?" She wasn't one to dance around the subject at hand, not when it was so serious.

"Hmm' Don't know what you're talkin about," he tossed with a careful look to match her own. This man wasn't to be swayed, and she was slightly irritable at this time of night. However, that all was cautiously concealed from the swindler with a lift of her lips and a sparkle of purpose in her gaze.

"The fae's people have been slaughtered, turnin up dead at street corners. Know anything about that?" Delicate fingers plucked a change pouch from her belt, and dangled it in front of the mans face before it came into contact with the tabletop. A loud clack of gold pieces that seemed to grab his attention well enough.

"Hmm...It's all comin back to me."

"Thought so..." She straightened, and crossed her arms. Seraphs gently bumped against her leg during a hip shift. "Now spill it."

"Saw some Lupins lurkin around the park. Could be out for dinner, but I found it weird how they were huntin in the water near the entrance to the Seelie court. Strangely enough, some even dove under, and didn't turn up till later. Ya know, I just thought some wolves were gettin lucky." This was said in a sort of whisperative manner like the man believed the whole dam market wasn't tuning in. "Shoulda known better."

"Yes, you should've." She nodded. "Thanks. If I need anything, I'll check back." She perhaps craned her neck slightly to see what lay behind the booth. Turned up with nothin, and decided not to act on any further curiosity on what the strange man hid back there. A tip of an invisible fedora to the swindler before she turned left and took a route down a back alley.

In her wake, all she heard was the whisper of a warning from the way she'd come...

"Be careful..."
