Topic: How did I end up in a MMO?

It's said that your fate is already written in the stars. Well that must definitely be true for Dani. Her fate was set when at four years old she picked up a Nintendo controller and began to play Zelda on the Nintendo. Ever since that day she became addicted and couldn't get enough. Begging her parents through her early years to get her hands on every type of gaming system and video games that were out there. Summer vacations spent staying up all night playing video games and sleeping through the entire day. Completely ecstatic that one year for Christmas when she got her first Playstation. Then it moved on from there with the Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube. Her grades weren't that great and so to help with her schooling her parents got her a computer. Which she quickly convinced them to purchase the correct parts to turn it into the perfect gaming rig. Though she wasn't the smartest kid in school she was making a name for herself and it wasn't long before she was getting paid to play in tournaments and sponsored as well. Yes she was moving up showing that indeed women can play video games just as well as men.

So one night there she was on one of her favorite MMOs running a raid as a tank for well over an hour. Her and her guild had finally gotten through all the annoying stuff and it was on to the gold! This grind fest was something she was really enjoying. Laughing and smiling as they got to the boss and wiped the floor with him. Victory was theirs! Congratulating each other over voice chat while looting and rolling to see who got what item. Then suddenly there was a bright flash! When Dani opened her eyes next she noticed she was on a cobblestone street. Shivering from being outside as she was only wearing an over sized black shirt with a gold Triforce on it and black baggy lounge pants, "Damn it's cold...Where the Hell am I?"

She muttered to herself as those dark brown eyes of hers looked around. She noticed that all manner of people of genders, races, and classes just like from her favorite RPGs were wandering around freely, 'Did I hit my head or something" Is this from lack of sleep" Am I dreaming"'

She thought to herself as her eyes widened at all the different people and creatures walking around. Shaking her head and shivering whether or not it was a dream she was cold and needed to get warm. Looking over to her left she saw an Inn with the name The Red Dragon Inn.

"Well that looks promising." She said to herself with a smile as she started to march right on that way. Hey if she was trapped in an MMO she might as well enjoy herself! And thus started Dani's new adventure in Rhy'Din. A gamer trapped within the Rhy'Din realm. Things were certainly going to be interesting!

On her way to the Red Dragon Inn it suddenly started to rain. Just perfect. Drenched and miserable she made her way inside. She realized a few things upon entering the Inn. One, was that there was a major glitch in this game as the NPC quest giver was missing! She certainly hoped it would be fixed in the next patch. She wondered if the developers were just lazy or just not listening to the feedback and bug reports.

Two, there really wasn't a set theme. She encountered a couple of Final Fantasy cosplayers, some really tall big blue dude, a authentic medieval black smith, and a elf. Maybe this game just had a really wide variety of character customization that she didn't know about"

Three, she's still having difficulties locating the UI, how to log out, and how to get "gear". Because...This was a game right' Was she in the starting zone" Is the NPC quest giver broken" This was like some Sword Art Online crazy stuff. But most importantly, how is she going to get home"

So Dani has learned a few things over the past few days. One, not everyone she saw was in cosplay. They were real! They were friggin' real! It was almost hard to believe. But that was the truth. She was still coming to terms that this was reality now. Fantasy come to life. She was still having difficulty wrapping her mind around it.

Two, things such as Internet, Google, and cell phones did exist! There was technology here! It wasn't completely hopeless! This made the whole situation seem very very promising. Now all she had to do was get the ball rolling!

Thanks to helpful people such as Arthour, Andu, Helix, Sissy, and Ripper she'd learned of public transportation. A train system! It was with this information she had boarded a train and made her way to the Marketplace. She'd visited the specialty stores that were strong in her areas and applied for jobs there. Now to hear back from them. She hoped she could at least earn some type of income.

Her next stop was Stars End. She'd been here once with Helix who hooked her up with some clothes. She felt a little out of place here. But nevertheless she found a few places to apply at where they could use her help with her knowledge of "ancient" technology. She was kind of hoping to get a job there first since it seemed like they really needed the help. She was keeping her fingers crossed!

Finally after an exhausting day she curled up on her seat on the train. The last stop was the Welcome Center that Sissy had told her about. A place where she could temporarily crash while getting on her feet. After she registered all of her information she went outside to make a call. Previously, she had contacted her sponsor who threatened to drop her and was fighting for them to keep her. She'd followed up with her lawyer and requested a freeze to be put on her accounts so they couldn't try to swindle the money out of her. The news from her lawyer wasn't great nor was it bad. They were currently in negotiations with her contract and trying to get the sponsor to keep her. They were also looking at other potential offers so nothing would be lost.

At least things were being taken care of from home. She couldn't just sit on her hands and twiddle her thumbs waiting. So she would head back to the Inn to gather her stuff and take it to the Welcome Center. In the meantime she could be unpacking while waiting for any word from the places she'd applied at or from her lawyer on how to get home.

Oh man oh man oh man! Things were getting interesting. For one she was actually working! Le gasp! At Helix's shop to help make ends meet. Things came crashing down when her sponsors decided to drop her. Thankfully she was one step ahead and had her lawyer deposit all of her money to her and then freeze her accounts. That way the sponsors could keep their grubby little hands off of the money she had earned! Though it freaked her out to carry all of her life savings on a little plastic card in her purse she needed to find a bank and fast.

She'd met this rather cute guy named Morgan. For some odd reason she can't think of she can talk to him without stuttering like a fool. It kind of scared her how close they had gotten in a few days. But life was about risks, right' She'd made a deal with him. He would teach her lessons in bad assery with a sword and she'd help him with him gaming skillz and/or how to build gaming rigs and modify consoles. Whatever floats his boat.

She also bought a house. Nothing big. Well, not really. It had about six bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom was hers of course. She'd already marked one of the rooms to be the "gaming room" and the living room was bare except for a couch and boxes pushed against the wall. She was still unpacking. In another room she had laid down some mats for the kick assery lessons" Anyway, she filled the kitchen with tea, Rockstar, Blue Moon, water, Ramen, and any other instant microwaveable meals. She's not much of a cook.

She would let the movers do their thing of moving in everything. Boxes upon boxes were pushed against the walls just waiting to be unpacked. Every door within the house open except for two. One being the door to her bedroom of course a girl has to have her privacy. The other" It had that yellow caution tape over it with "Police line do not cross." A closet holding all the free "swag" she had gotten from her sponsors. If it was opened everything would come tumbling down. She really debated on putting some caution lights.

She was really hoping that when Morgan saw her place he wouldn't freak or anything like that. Why should she care" Should she care" Yeah, yeah she does. It was weird this feeling she had but she wasn't gonna argue with it. I mean, it's not like he was gonna screw her over, right' Or maybe she was just looking too much into this. Getting her hopes up high just to have her feet kicked out from under her. She decided to concentrate on doing what she could to finish moving in instead of thinking on it. That was bad juju.

Thankfully she had finished moving in. Oh and kitties! Serah had dumped ten adorable balls of fluff on her! She was still in the process of naming them all. She'd need Morgan to help her with that. In the meantime though she's still working in Helix's thrift shop. Mostly so she'll have income just in case her savings runs out. Which it will. A day she was dreading but couldn't do much about. The thought of it stressed her so she didn't think about it.

She'd also managed to get a hold of a computer and build pretty much the same gaming rig she had back home. She'd also found lots of parts to put together consoles for whenever she had people over if they wanted to play console games. If she ever had anyone over. Well...Maybe some girls. Because her being the only chick in a group of dudes was very awkward.

Speaking of awkward she still couldn't explain that stupid smile she got on her face when she was around Morgan. Aside from keeping herself busy she has managed to catch a few waves on the private property owned by Roman which he let her have access to. That won lots of brownie points in her book. He was too cool for school.

She was quickly getting over her stammering when talking to guys since Morgan seemed to be making it so easy on her. She might even be confident even. Imagine that. But thinking of throwing a party was the last thing on her mind at the moment. Right now she needed to find a bank to safely hold her monies and put the final touches on her casa.

Well yesterday was very interesting to say the least. She braved the weather to catch some waves at the place Roman said she could use. Unfortunately though it had rained and by the time she came to the Inn she felt like she was coming down with a cold and getting sick.

Getting sick was not one of her strong points. She hated feeling useless. Seeing her friend Serah and Ichigo...Erm...Toby brightened her spirits. Toby was nice enough to make her some coffee to help fight off the cold with the help of a little whiskey of course. It was somewhere around that time that Morgan had came in. Her heart sped up and she felt better and happy seeing him.

The whiskey making her brave she jokingly asked him about his opinion on a woman's bust and somewhere in all the witty quips he admitted he loved her. She felt like she had been hit with a sledgehammer and a truck. She was shocked and speechless. But finally coming to her senses she admitted she felt the same. She'd never been in love but she was sure this is what it felt like. The sweaty palms, butterflies in the stomach, and that smile she seemed to only get when he was around. All of that wonderful cliche stuff. They had then shared their first kiss. It was her first kiss as well. Carried away on bliss it was one of the happiest moments of her young life.

They then went to a quieter setting where they talked about attending the luau that Serah had mentioned. Seems things were looking up for her in the best ways possible.

Yesterday was interesting. She hadn't gotten completely sick from her antics but she wasn't contagious either. So she decided a hot shower would help. Plus it would be an escape from the demanding kittens roaming her home. About halfway through the relaxing shower she heard knocking. Who the Hell could be coming over" Only a couple people knew where she lived. She didn't think she was expecting anyone"

Slightly grumpy she shut off the shower. Wet and getting cold wrapped in a towel she opened the door and oh there was Morgan. Of course she'd forgotten she invited him over. So imagine how embarrassed they were at her appearance. She pulled him inside and kicked the door shut to keep the furballs from escaping. Asking him to wait she went to finish her shower and dress.

That done he said he wanted to work out and spar to work on her training. She was perfectly okay with that. She also reminded him the cats needed names. He picked Lil Morgan for one. That was one down and nine to go. She lead him to her home gym and was distracted by him for a few moments before she began to work out herself. After they were warmed up the sparring lessons began. Or rather...They didn't. In her first attempt she slipped and fell. He fell down because he thought it was funny. She didn't think that it was funny of course. She pinned him down until he admitted it wasn't funny.

What followed was a makeout session which produced feelings, sensations, and urges she'd never felt before. It made her blush, dizzy, and confused all in a good way. Thankfully he either sensed it or had enough sense to stop before things got to far. He asked to crash on the couch and of course she said yes. Saying goodnight they departed to their rooms. Suffice to say not very much training had been done. But it was a good start, right' And, though she wouldn't admit it outloud, she wanted to explore those feelings with Morgan a bit more.

Things had been going swimmingly well for her. She had a cute boyfriend who she loved and he loved her back. She was finally finished moving in after what seemed like ages. She was getting into the groove of working in Helix's shop and actually enjoying it. The kitties and her had a whole routine going on around the house. Hell she was even thinking of starting her own electronic hardware and software business!

That was until last night. Last night it all came crashing down. Let's set the scene, shall we" Morgan comes knocking with flowers and chocolate. Call her sappy and old fashioned but it made her melt inside! Happy to see him she invites him inside. He appeared nervous but she didn't think anything of it. She usually was nervous herself even around him. Old habits did die hard after all.

It was then he confessed how he had wronged her. How a woman seduced him into betraying her. She was...Broken. That hard exterior of the punk pixie all came crumbling down. She felt enraged, hurt, betrayed, and full of sorrow. She blamed everyone in the world. How could he" How could she" How could any of this happen" True she had never really given any thought to the fact she was a virgin. She had always been so focused on winning tournaments that things like dating and sex and love were always out of sight and out of mind. But here" Here it was different. Here she could concentrate on those things.

She actually had entertained the thought of saving herself for him. In fact she promised herself she would. And now it was all ruined. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know if she should leave him or what. She was so lost and confused. Who could she look to for help" Who indeed? After draining a beer very quickly she welcomed the feeling of being tipsy as she said in her own way she wasn't going to throw him out of her life yet.

But now...Now she had to process it all. Now she need to figure out what to do. She tried to logically prove that somehow he had been taken advantage of but that wasn't the truth. The truth was that it happened with both parties consenting and willing. That is what hurt the most. That is what cut the deepest in her heart.

It was time for a change. Sleep hadn't been coming easy to her. Neither had an appetite. Seems the only thing she had an appetite for was cigarettes, beer, and energy drinks. An unhealthy diet to be sure. She'd spent countless hours modifying her consoles, handheld consoles, and gaming rig until everything was perfect and screamed Dani.

When she couldn't do anymore there she had set to cleaning the entire house. When that was done she bathed every single kitten ten in all and brushed out any snags in their fur. She organized her pantry. She swept, mopped, and dusted. She worked out until she passed out. But none of it helped. She still felt wretched.

After a sweaty workout she decided to take a shower. Alone in the bathroom with the kittens sleeping peacefully throughout the house. The shower was running and steam was quickly fogging up the mirror. She sat on the toilet staring at the wall and smoking a cigarette. She felt frozen she didn't even have the motivation to get undressed and shower after she ran the water.

She was so deep in her thoughts she hadn't noticed her cigarette burned down until she felt the heat and then the burn as it touched her flesh. Hissing in pain she stubbed out the half burned filter in distaste. By now the entire bathroom was fogged due to the steam and her cigarette smoke. Setting the ashtray aside she slipped to the floor. Opening the cabinet below the sink she began to pull out cleaning materials for the bathroom, shampoo bottles, conditioner bottles, soap bottles, and her feminine products. It wasn't until the floor was littered with plastic bottles she pulled out from way in the back a cardboard box.

Sitting against the wall she smiled as she looked over the bottles of hair dye and materials. Quickly shoving all the other bottles back she slammed the cabinet doors shut. Setting the box on the toilet she then had motivation to shower. Disrobing quickly she climbed into the hot shower and hissed in pain as the scalding water hit her flesh. That pale flesh quickly flushing from pink to red with the hot water. But the hot stinging pain felt good. Thankfully she was used to bleaching her hair in the shower but she was surprised by how the muddiness in her eyes had faded away and left them a pale gray. The color of cloudy skies the calm before the storm:

Ignoring it she quickly dried off her body pulling on a t-shirt and shorts. When she was done she was happy with how things turned out. She wondered if Morgan would noticed. She wondered if she cared. For the first time since this whole debacle began she felt a sliver of happiness.

Her life had gotten pretty busy very quickly. There was work, there was Morgan, the kitties, and well everything else life threw at her. However she managed to handle it all with a smile and her energy drinks. She finally caught a break during the holidays thought. With the store closed up she could relax and breath.

She found herself at the Inn hoping she would be able to wrap Morgan's gift without him seeing. Well Morgan being Morgan found her there. So, she gave it to him. A weapon kit for all of his weapon needs with more weapons. Because she sure as Hell couldn't protect herself so that was his job. He could tank and she could be the healer. That's how it worked, right?

He was happy with the gift and of course gave her her gift. It was a beautiful necklace with chocolate diamonds. She adored it just as she adored the aqua bracelet he had given her. She mentioned how there was more to his gift but it was back at their house.

Excited they both quickly made their way home. There he had cooked a bit of the holiday dinner which she was more than thankful for. Unless you could throw it in the microwave her cooking skills were shite. They sat down to a lovely intimate dinner for just the two of them.

After dinner, though nervous and scared, she worked up the courage to take him to bed. Once they were alone and he touched her all the doubt and anxiety melted away. She no longer worried if she was going to be good enough for him since that incident that happened a few months back. She went along with her instincts to guide her. It hurt a little at first but once she got past the discomfort it was the best experience she had in her entire existence.

A little bit of innocence lost was worth it for the best holiday she had ever experienced. Now she simply couldn't get enough of him. She had bright hopes and dreams for their future together.

This past Christmas was an unforgettable event she would remember the rest of her life. Now was there anyway to top it' Apparently Morgan had some ideas. They had met up at the Inn as she had managed to get her work done early. After some teasing he told her he had a surprise. She loved surprises from him.

The walk was long and cold but she was rewarded when he presented a horse for them to ride. Trusting him she got on the horse. Through the cloudless dark night they sped through the snow. Finally coming upon a clearing not touched by old man winter. It was gorgeous and breath taking. It was...Perfect.

She was so touched by the beauty that she hadn't noticed but he was suddenly kneeling in front of her, with a ring, asking for her hand in marriage. She felt like she had been hit with a truck. Her knees gave out as she collapsed and kneeled with him. After the initial shock she happily said yes and sealed the deal with a kiss. She was now the happiest woman alive.

It had been a whirlwind of events for her. First there was the surprise proposal from Morgan and then what quickly came after that was news of her pregnancy. Morgan began working more and more. She hardly saw him anymore. She felt the distance growing between them. Then again she had begun to distance herself from the little friends she had made. Work consumed her life that she was tired all of the time. It wasn't just the hormones.

However brief the moments she spent with Morgan she cherished them. Though doubt began to gnaw at her it was forgotten when she was in his arms. As the months passed her belly had begun to swell. There were doctor visits, Lamaze classes, and constant research on the Internet to find out as much information as she could and prepare. She no longer even had time for her favorite games which bummed her out.

Giving up smoking was probably the hardest one. It was an addiction she was afraid she wouldn't be able to kick. But for the life growing inside of her she did. Now she was addicted to sugar free lollipops and mints. Anything that she could suck on and Hell she begun to chew a lot of gum as well. But at least she did it. At least she proved she could. Giving up energy drinks was hard but not as hard as kicking her smoking habit.

She had heard rumors and whispers. Mostly gossip and mentioning of her beloved not being one hundred percent devoted to her. Whether or not it was true she didn't know. When they were together she really hadn't had the heart nor courage to ask him. Usually they were so tired she simply forgot. Either way did it matter" Was she trapped or did she have a choice" She knew she would have to confront him about it but just didn't know how.

Finally there was announcement of what she was having. A boy. A bouncing baby boy of wonderfulness. That was fine with her. Boys were easier in her mind anyway. She did what she could to keep her mind occupied but in reality she missed Morgan. Even when she fell asleep in the same bed with him it wasn't the same as talking and laughing with him. Cuddling on the couch and watching TV like they used to.

Almost like a mantra she held onto the hope that things would get better once the baby was born. Once they had saved up the money they needed then they could take a break and focus on each other and raising their child. That was until the accident happened. The day began like any other. But she wasn't paying attention and tripped over her shoe lace and fell. She fell hard. It started as a dull and aching pain but then progressed to something greater. First there was the cramps and then the stomach pain. It was almost as if she was starting her monthly. But that wasn't right. Then there was the fever and the sudden weakness. And finally there was the blood. Was she going into labor" It was too early wasn't it' Worry overcame her. Morgan wasn't home and doubled over in pain she had barely managed to call for help before she fell to the ground screaming.

They got her to the hospital but it wasn't in time. The sympathetic doctors and nurses had determined it was an accident and nothing could be done. To make matters worse because of the trauma she would not be able to bear children again. That if she tried it could result in her dying. They strongly advised against her taking such risks. She was so close. So close to bringing a new life in this world. But she managed to screw it up. She felt like she had screwed up a lot of things. Her career, her relationship, and now this. Was this her punishment for having doubts"

Silent and alone in her depression and misery she would recover. Once she had it was time for another hair change to reflect her oh so blue mood. Taking time off from work she sold everything she had bought in preparation for the child. She couldn't bear to have the stuff in her home. It was much too painful to look at. With the money she got back she put into savings. When she saw Morgan again and when they had more than a moment she would let him know. Where would things go from here? She felt so empty and numb. She just didn't know anymore.

"Two AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake, Can you help me unravel my latest mistake, I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season" -Anna Nalick - Breathe (2am)

Things had been a whirlwind and Dani had kept to herself. She packed up all of Morgan's belongings in their home and would contact his family to pick up what they wanted. Whatever was left over was donated to those who might need it more. The cats had been given away as well. Dani just didn't know what to do with herself.

For days, Hell weeks even, she kept shut in her home in mourning. The house, and her, became a mess. Sustaining herself on cigarettes, booze, energy drinks, and Ramen. Was this rock bottom' If so, it sucked. Would she ever find her way out of this hole of blackness and despair?

Well, one day she did. As the sunlight hit her face when she woke up she realized it didn't do any good to mope around. The first task to complete was bathing. After a good shower and managing to dress herself the rest became easier. One thing at a time she concentrated on cleaning her home and making it the way it was before. Venturing out she even managed to get better food to live off of.

For the first time in an eternity she turned on her computer and once more found joy in playing online with her friends. Soon enough she even returned to work. She wasn't going to let what happened drag her down. Though it did leave her sad and times and certainly bitter she wasn't going to let it consume her anymore. Slowly as the days went by she remembered it was okay to smile and be happy. She found simple joy in taking care of herself and her home. It was the little things that made her truly happy.

As the feelings of sorrow and tragedy faded away she was more than ready to embrace what was in store for her next.

"Oh now feel it, comin' back again Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind Forces pullin' from The center of the earth again I can feel it." - Live Lightning Crashes

"Morgan f***ing Chae..." She repeated the words once she was inside of her home. Closing the door and leaning against it. Dani closed her eyes as the events replayed in her mind. The events where the phantom from her past came back.

The day started out like any other. She checked out this new cafe in the Marketplace and on the way home, smoking her after coffee/meal cigarette, she got a call from her sponsor. It was a familiar argument of negotiating her comeback for the upcoming e-sports tournament. She had everything set up to live stream. But, he managed to pissed her off. Shoving her phone in her pocket and fuming as she let the cigarette calm her down.

She saw him. He tried to shrink and hide away but she saw him. A blink and he was still there. It was actually Morgan. It wasn't a ghost. He was reality. So much had hit her all at once. There were tears, there was yelling, and there was her punching him because he seriously deserved it.

But then there was hugs, laughs, and smiles. It was a chaotic moment but in the end, since she had moved on and grown, she offered her friendship. She was willing to not dwell on the past and give him an opportunity to have some sort of a civil relationship. It was after that she made her way home.

Her home which no longer held his belongings but still so many memories of their time spent together. It hurt but it was something she couldn't escape. Kicking off her shoes and tossing her duster on the couch she made her way to her room. A cigarette between her lips already lit as she sat down at her computer. Headset on she logged into her game. Losing herself to raids, dungeons, and tanking as practice and in preparation of the tournament coming up.
