First add some audacity...
It smelled. That did not really cover the assault on Gwens nose but there were no words that would and so a simple one would do for the moment. Pulling a silk band of cloth from a pocket she wrapped it around the lower portion of her face, leaving only her eyes free. It didn't do much but it should keep her from losing her breakfast.
Stepping over a pile of what appeared to be human remains she turned that part of her brains processing off, she found that helped keep her calm. If she began to dwell on the fact that there were piles of organs, puddles of blood and bits of brain that she was plodding through it was likely she wasn't going to finish scouting.
The tower had been used for evil, that much was apparent, the evil that would feel comfortable with a capital E. Gwen was far forward of the rest of her companions, it was her usual modus operandi, if she was far forward she could do what she wanted before someone could object.
Her companions today included the following: Katt and Trist, her cousins, Darry the human warrior, and Shale the skirt wearing sorcerer. They had been traveling together for months now and they had a pretty good feel for how to work together. By work together Gwen generally meant that she would do what she wanted and the others would follow or they wouldn't.
She rounded the corner and found a stone stair case, or most of one. The stairs went up just fine, but from the floor she was on down there was nothing but a dark pit. Gwen perched at the edge of the gaping hole and considered. A glance over her shoulder told her that her cousins were closing in on her position, but it would take them at least another minute to arrive.
Common sense would have told her that she should wait for them, maybe lower a rope down, or throw a torch to gauge the distance. It was a crying shame that she wasn't on speaking terms with common sense....she pushed off the perch and into the vast empty darkness.
((Author's Note: This is unrelated to Gwens current storyline, it's some history. Yeah history!))
