"Tell me, sister of the craft, what do you see around this city of Rhydin?" A tall, delicate woman garbed in russet red skirts and a red velvet corset asked in a thin nasal voice.
The slim young lady, garbed in a black cloak and a dress of dark green, closed her rich mahogany colored eyes shutting out the visual senses to call upon her Ley Line vision. Before her the city of Rhydin lost it's color as all life faded to shades of gray. Like fine lace ribbons, Ley lines crisscrossed the city in a variety of colors as if the city foundation was set upon a large woven cloth. Opening her eyes she regarded her Head Sister of the Craft.
"I see many Ley Lines, tapped and untapped throughout this city of Rhydin. I am at a lost to understand what the varying colors mean." she with the simple air of student.
"That is because you are only versed in tapping Silver Ley lines from our homeland, sister. Here, many more variations of Ley lines exist. Before you can rise higher in our Craft you must live in this city and study all of these Ley lines. Learn from them, feel them out, use them as you see fit. Only then will you be truly tested as a Head Sister." The thin nasal voice directed.
"Yes Head Sister. I will study them all." She set her eyes on her new home.
The thin woman stared at the student for a long moment. Sea green eyes regarding the fledgling sister of the Guild of Ley Line Witches. "I understand from the Guild you have the rare craft of Death Writing. Do you have a protection name for yourself?"
The young woman thought for a moment about that question. Death Writing was the art of writing the name of a person down in a specially crafted tome that would allow the author to determine how that person dies as long the author has seen the face of the one they name. It was only sound reasoning that someone else could have the same craft as her's and kill her with a few scratches of the quill.
"Mel shall be my protection name." Mel said.
"Short and easy to adjust to. You will meet with me again in three months, Mel. I will evaluate whether or not you are improving in your Ley line craft." The Head Sister informed Mel, then looked about. "I must be about now. I can smell a demon taking interest in our kind too much."
Mel nodded curtly and left the Head Sister, walking down a hill into the main street of Rhydin to start her training to be a Head Sister.
