"Tell me, sister of the craft, what do you see around this city of Rhydin?" A tall, delicate woman garbed in russet red skirts and a red velvet corset asked in a thin nasal voice.

The slim young lady, garbed in a black cloak and a dress of dark green, closed her rich mahogany colored eyes shutting out the visual senses to call upon her Ley Line vision. Before her the city of Rhydin lost it's color as all life faded to shades of gray. Like fine lace ribbons, Ley lines crisscrossed the city in a variety of colors as if the city foundation was set upon a large woven cloth. Opening her eyes she regarded her Head Sister of the Craft.

"I see many Ley Lines, tapped and untapped throughout this city of Rhydin. I am at a lost to understand what the varying colors mean." she with the simple air of student.

"That is because you are only versed in tapping Silver Ley lines from our homeland, sister. Here, many more variations of Ley lines exist. Before you can rise higher in our Craft you must live in this city and study all of these Ley lines. Learn from them, feel them out, use them as you see fit. Only then will you be truly tested as a Head Sister." The thin nasal voice directed.

"Yes Head Sister. I will study them all." She set her eyes on her new home.

The thin woman stared at the student for a long moment. Sea green eyes regarding the fledgling sister of the Guild of Ley Line Witches. "I understand from the Guild you have the rare craft of Death Writing. Do you have a protection name for yourself?"

The young woman thought for a moment about that question. Death Writing was the art of writing the name of a person down in a specially crafted tome that would allow the author to determine how that person dies as long the author has seen the face of the one they name. It was only sound reasoning that someone else could have the same craft as her's and kill her with a few scratches of the quill.

"Mel shall be my protection name." Mel said.

"Short and easy to adjust to. You will meet with me again in three months, Mel. I will evaluate whether or not you are improving in your Ley line craft." The Head Sister informed Mel, then looked about. "I must be about now. I can smell a demon taking interest in our kind too much."

Mel nodded curtly and left the Head Sister, walking down a hill into the main street of Rhydin to start her training to be a Head Sister.

Her first day in the city was, how to put it, hectic. She had managed to find the Red Dragon Inn, a place that the Head Sister said she may put her bar tending skills to use. Skills that most of the other Ley Line witches laughed at her for. Still, any job that keeps you under a roof and fed while studying the arcane was worth keeping.

She spent the whole afternoon and evening talking with people in the Red Dragon Inn and even managed to play bar tender while waiting for someone in management to speak with. At the end of the day, Lahan was sitting at a table she had wiped clean for tenth time and was quietly writing in her diary.

~Well, I spent a long day of cleaning dishes, making drinks, and chatting with the locals of Rhydin. I was merely passing the time until one of the managers, Eless was her name, I think came in. She offered me a fill in job at the Red Dragon Inn. Something easy to slip in and out of until I could settle down a bit more in this city.

I didn't slack off though while doing chores. The Red Dragon Inn has almost an entire rainbow of Ley Lines woven under, through, and around it. I decided to spindle some black and blue ley line energy in mind. I will be studying their effects a bit later with a Lay Stone.

I fear the hour has grown late according to a time candle, a water clock, and something called a cookoo clock in the corner of the common room. I say this as I focused on getting a job and making a good impression but neglected to find lodging. Well I hope no one will think it poor of me to sleep on a couch in the Red Dragon Inn for the night. At least until I can ask about rooms or housing. I will close this entry for now.

May your lines be straight, your print be neat, and your symbols in order. Lahan~

She fell asleep at the table once the entry was done. She was that tired.

Lahan was sitting on the wood floor of a small two room apartment she'd found in the Market District. The deposit and first month of rent had wiped out most of her money, but soon she'll buy some furniture. For now she was intensely tracing lines on the wood floor.

Lahan had quickly found out that in this city of Rhydin, protection, safety, and security is key to living a long life. The clack of magnetic chalk filled the empty room echoing off the barren walls and floor. Soon her circles were set. Closing her eyes, Lahan pulled up her Ley Line sight and tapped a silver Ley line. It was the only color she knew well enough.

She funneled some of the silvery energy into the circles and she felt an aura of protection flow over the walls, ceiling, and floor of her apartment. With a sigh of relief, she laid down on the hard wood floor and slept. Tomorrow it was time to work more and find a bed.
