Any venture like this was not without its risks and Paul knew this. Expanding into as hellish an environment as Rhy'din was would be difficult. It was a diverse economy with a massive range of potential threats and competitors. It was also his greatest chance to truly place the company on a epic scale. Glancing over the quarterly reports of his sales he knew they had gone stagnant in the last year or so. The company just couldn't grow any more here, expansion into foreign markets was the only way.
For half a heartbeat Paul wondered why he cared to expand, he was more than wealthy as it was; the company was profitable, he was happy. As these thoughts crossed his mind he looked to the picture of his wife and children sitting on his desk and he knew the answer. He did it for them; he would make such a life for them as he never knew. He sits back in his chair and begins to once more go through the massive mental checklist of things that must be done for the move. Most of the actual home moving arrangements had been made already by Madelyn. His concerns were of a much more practical matter in his mind. He was to tend to this new and staggeringly large vineyard.
When he first saw it, he knew it was the right buy for them. Over fifty acres of vineyard, old and beaten. It had been poorly tended for at least a decade when they found it. The owner wanted nothing more than to see it go and Paul new a good deal when he saw one. The land alone was worth well over twice what he had paid for it, a desperate sale on the previous owners part. He almost wished it had cost more, then it may have been in better shape. The move was simply so he could manage the new vineyard himself. It needed a firm and practical hand to oversee its rebirth.
Paul rose from his chair and made his way to the door of the office. A last glance around the room verified that everything he needed out of it was packed and ready to be moved. Before leavening he grabs the picture of his family off the desk, it was far to dear to him to be shipped in some crate. Tucking it neatly into his briefcase he makes his way into the main portion of the house. All about him the effect of life in this home were being packed to move to the next. He cared little, they were just things really.
He soon found himself seeking his wife where he thought she would be. He was disappointed to not find her anywhere that he thought he would. No doubt she was tending to some all important detail of their move. Unlike himself she seemed rather thrilled to be moving to Rhy'din. She had lived there before and had friends and the like there. Paul had no such contacts in Rhy'din. He was leaving all that behind.
It mattered little to him to leave this all behind. Even here he had nothing he would call a friend. He had those he knew on a friendlier basis but even those were really just work associates. While thinking on this he found his darling wife. She was in front of the house, managing her things being loaded. Looking at her, a smile crossed his face, the first of the day. He loved seeing her, even from afar as he was now. He deemed that she was busy and left her to her supervising.
Making his way through the house to the back porch he took in the sounds of the move. Not what he liked to hear in his house. He wanted it quiet or if it had to be loud he wanted the sounds of his growing family. Children playing or Madelyn singing while she cooked; those were the sounds of a happy home.
When he arrived on the back porch he stared out onto his vineyard here for the last time. All about him hibernating vines expand as far as the eye can see. He would make the new home into one like this. He would make it prosper one way or the other. Paul had no doubt in his skill to accomplish such a task, though, he did regret the time it would mean away from his family. Only in recent memory had he found any real time for them at all, and he was about to lose it. It was for the best though, for their best.
