There's a time during the year where the days run their longest, when the wind carries it's most potent spices, where the world stands still in what seems an evanescent state comprised of radiant warmth and never ending light. In this time one often finds themselves entertaining half formed images created by the sunlight pouring insistently down against their closed lids, only to open them and find that the few hours of twilight that do creep in when the sun finally tires has already somehow come upon you. That is MidSummer.

As per usual the celebrations will take place deep in the heart of the glen where Lilliana's long parked her caravan, where there's not only room for every soul in Rhydin, but also for the large, lazy waterfall and lagoon the witch has taken to sculpting into the landscape for all the solstice goers. Like always, she's gung ho on taking full advantage of the season's abundance of magic, so take a dip while it lasts!
There is a season when all the days run hotter than the last, where the smell of ripened grass near bursting still clings to some little crevice or hem long after it's been washed. Blades of grass catch between your toes as the last vestiges of pollen assault your hair during this time, or don't. It depends really. Sometimes it could be your clothes that suffer in the form of ash or clover stains. During this time, this season, this magical hour that cracks like a whip and wakes the days of summer, not a soul is safe. Sweat encircles the brow or the dips and dives of back and collarbone alike, bedecking the tanned and the pale alike in an array of wet gems and jewels as temporary as a mindless swipe of an arm. It's only natural to seek respite, just as it's only natural to indulge. Even the flora and fauna know it; right down to their roots and their bones, they too feel the energetic promise of the impending solstice. http://i.imgur.com/ijFBW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HLBTp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/1KNBH.jpg Miscreant and gentry alike, vagabonds and home-goers ho! To the furry and the bald, all ye' be welcome to the festivus that is MidSummer! It's a gathering for those that inhabit and wish to properly welcome the beauty and fury of the Goddess who finally got up her gusto and is slipping on her summery frocks! Entertainment's abound in many, many forms.
Throughout the night they'll hover like so many fireflies in the brush, dancing as you dance, moving as you move, teasing as you tease; the fairy, the fae, the fair folk, sidhe. Call them what you will, but just as the turning of the season, so too are these often underestimated members of the earth. Children first and foremost before many, the proudest and wildest of these creatures are rare. Little in books can be trusted, save what doesn't seem real. Like most, they have selfish tendencies and willful hearts of their own, but the fae do not play by the same rules are you or I, and near not the same game. Those who stand beside the wheel of time rather than run inside it, are always a bit apart, yet always a part; this is simply the time of year where the veil is thinnest, and the magic most strong. Tempt fate as you will, but never tempt a fae. They are beautiful, they are mysterious and full of vitality and vigor, they can even be benevolent, but be wary....they've the capacity for so much more. http://i.imgur.com/9rh5j.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xiUQt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/KYq0I.jpg http://i.imgur.com/1JAkI.jpg As always, the not-so-wicked-witch west of Rhydin proper wishes all you non-magically inclined folk to be wary of wild fairy! While they do certainly add to the atmosphere and overall decor of MidSummer, many a man or woman's been known to be lured into quite the sticky situation! When dealing with fairy that have manifested, please rely on the buddy system, preferably one who's well versed in the many properties of iron.
But the celebration, oh the celebration! Mortal and magical both can find cause for celebration this night....In fact, it's unbreakable tradition. It is the night of the fairy folk as well as the summer, you see, and not a soul's able to escape it completely, oh no, not never. Even after the sun takes it's final bow for the day, the moon's hot on his heels with a whole new brilliant light, a light like a hundred thousand, thousand candles all set to burn at once behind a great rice paper screen pockmarked from too many years flown by. Fires crackle and snap with joy as folk from every walk of life come, settle, feast, and make merry beneath that big bellied sky. http://i.imgur.com/wHz3z.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zOSyZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/R7fPx.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IucqK.jpg Various foods will be set out in a comely series of spreads. Nothing too fancy here folks, just meats roasted just right, vegetables charred to a T, and all manner of finger foods both fresh and cooked to pick at throughout the night!
It's that time where the sweet blossoms that arose in spring bear fruit to the lonely hearts of summer. Eyes meet, smiles erupt, and gentle advancement gives way to a tidal crash of heat not unlike the cresting year. This dance from season to season is a dance like no other, much like the dance of want and desire, of love and need, it is a melody unto itself that can echo it's joy long into the night; come the morning, most find a great deal more than the scent of grass and firewood clinging. Wake and greet the first day of summer from within a meadow's tangled embrace, and from beside the warmth of a precious soul with whom you've shared so much with. http://i.imgur.com/2Fgsu.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FK6Ql.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SF9tL.jpg http://i.imgur.com/233dX.jpg Let's not forget one of the most poignant aspects of MidSummer is the season's fertile nature! Not only is it a time when the ethereal can meet up with the corporeal, but it's that time where loooooove's most wild and abundant. Take a chance, make that connection, and truly worship the spirit of the season.
It's the month of the strawberry moon, a symbol of plenty in every aspect, so rich and bright it's due for a plucking. And much like the moon, the stars have their own light too great to be squelched. A soul could easily feel small and insignificant in comparison to the great, milky expanse dominating the sky, and probably would, were it not for the soil still harboring it's heat from the hours of sunlight before. It's a comfort like no other, that warmth, for it beats as steadily as a heart, and in a moment you could almost breathe the same breath as the great Gaia herself. Lie down, and you're sure to hear it even as you drift off into sleep. Atmosphere is everything, even when one's dreams take them beyond great unknown and into some alien place. http://i.imgur.com/UthQ2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SICdM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/G21Dj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fQRvp.jpg Atmosphere IS everything! Those stars in the sky, as ever, have been mankind's inspiration for LIGHT, and LIGHT Lilliana wants her guests to have. Carved salt rocks and mason jars aplenty will serve as this season's illumination stations, aside from the gargantuan bonfire at the center of the festivities that is. And no worries about freak fires kiddies, the witch has a handle on all that's flammable....she is fiery for a reason.
This is MidSummer. And while it comes to an end like all things do, the retreat and sleep is by far the soul's most satisfying piece of it. While the most ardent and steadfast of solstice going folk will bask beneath that wholesome blanket of stars in the sky on a bed of freshest summer grass, there is no shame in further indulging in the hedonistic spirit. Silks, fluffy cottons, goose down packed beneath threads too numerous to count; these are all things that await the curious within the bright little hollows that often border the grounds around the seasonal festivities. While shapes may dance long into the eve and morn, those who wish a reprieve or night's worth of hideaway will never be left wanting. http://i.imgur.com/xosSj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XgqBM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/q1orF.jpg Too tired, too intoxicated by the good vibes, or too bothered by the idea of hiking ALL the way back to the city' No worries here! As always, Lilli's got a bevy of tents, makeshift sleeping spaces, and sumptuously erected camps for those needing to rest before heading back to the world. Although some may look small, they're more than meets the eye; each tent opens up inside to accommodate whatever person, and how many persons, may decide to roll on inside!
Dare yourself to embrace it all; the magic, the mayhem, the merriment and glee....you'll be glad you did. http://i.imgur.com/hhxzr.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6ZiOV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Iagpq.jpg
