Kamea

Walking off the ship, she realized that in every port is where the more, shall she say, are where the "characters who are more colorful" hang out' No one messed with Kamea. Actually she had come so used to being stared at and watched people literally run away from her, as she walked along anywhere, with Brutus untethered, was becoming comical.

Brutus was the runt in a litter of 4. Big cats usually have 2-3 cubs. Brutus was the 4th and pushed away by his mother. Kamea was hunting near her tiny loghome, when she saw a Snow Leopard walking across a clearing, carrying a cub in her mouth. Must be something that spooked her, for her to move her cubs through the deep snow, and a clearing unprotected. After she made 3 passes, and did not come back...Kamea decided to check where she had made her "bed". Following the tracks, they led to a craggy area. Rocks jutting up everywhere. The Snow Leopard had dug a whole between two such rocks, a slab of Iced over snow concealed her and her litter. Just as Kamea was about to stand up, after investigating the den, she heard a tiny cry from the den.

Quickly she backed away for what seemed an eternity. The sounds of that poor creature caused her to take the chance that she knew she shouldn't. Looking around....climbing back up, looking across the clearing, no sign of Mama Leopard...she went to the den and pulled out a tiny cub. The size of it was the length of her hand. It was then it began yelping louder. Stuffing him in her warm wool lined coat, quickly she made her way back to her home. Offering the poor creature her finger to suck on. She most definately did not want to meet up with its mother.

Kamea decided he could only be at the MOST 3 days old. Part of his dried cord intact....she was certain he must've been the runt. She placed him in a basket full of lambs wool, which was kept near the fireplace. Stuffing an old sock with wool she placed it beside him, like the comfort of another cub. Like all babies....he slept, ate, and "went"...which Kamea had to do as his mother would...with a damp towel. By a week or so old, he began to open his eyes. At night when she rose to get him, she sometimes just took him back to bed and curled up with him close to her chest.

As Brutus grew, she began to see his personality emerge. He may be small. But he had the heart of the biggest Snow Leopard ever born. Living at the base of the Himalaya's, there was lots of things to do. And Brutus went everywhere with Kamea. Always walking...well...more like lumbering ahead of Kamea. She never gave thought to be afraid, yet Brutus basically declared himself her body guard. If he crouched low and pulled back his ears...Kamea would crouch down as well. Happened a few times with wolves...but it never came to Brutus having to fight.

Brutus may have started out small, but he was now full grown and didn't quite fit in her lap anymore. They did play. She would chase him. Then he would playfully "stalk" her...he stood a good 2-3 ft. above her when he stood on his hind legs, his paws resting on either shoulder. He loved to be stroked by his "mother". For that is how he saw Kamea...she was his mother. They rolled around in the snow, and he was quick to hop up behind her and knock her down.

So...Rhydin was no different than any other Port. That much she knew. She even saw slaves being loaded into the hull of a ship. These people were not what she knew slaves to look like. They were both men and women, and of different colors. She turned her head away. Her long jet black hair being blown back by the westerly winds. Almond hues took in every sight. First order of business was to find shelter. With all these folks milling about, everywhere she looked, surely she could find a bed. Her only problem being....did they accept pets?
