Ava Nightfall

The market gained a new subsection in the middle of the night, the nexus transplanted whole a small army of tents and within their circle a standing circle of ascending stairs. Ten steps in all, the risers looked much like they were built with the same mirrored material that skyscrapers were made from. Two breaks in the circle broad enough to allow five or six people to stand inside them stood where they always had one, at three o"clock, and the other at eight. Tent frame and material weren't in readily in attendance, though they'd been up prior to transport. Poles clustered in an untidy horizontal heap in the center of the ring, bright, multicolored canvas folded neatly underneath it.

Dawn woke Ava, mostly because there was light at all, the forest didn't get light like that until far later in the day. Besides that, her tent was under an old building portion- that much light getting in was impossible. She dressed quickly, quietly so she didn't wake her tent mates without knowing a little of what was going on. Creeping out tent flap was the hardest part of that mission, and there she almost failed as they rolled over mid-step,

Upon realizing they were very much no longer where they had been, her first move was to wake everyone.

They gathered by common consent in the ring where the tent was the night before, dozens of befuddled teens with various degrees of hair color and dress settled on the risers with only Ava left below.

She started speaking as soon as everyone was present. Better to claim control before speculation turned to fear.

"Good morning everyone! I think it's plain to see we have somehow moved out of the forest in the night, and that this town is not New York. I'm not sure where we are yet, but I intend to go exploring and see what I can find, immediately. My phone assures me there's a train station a few miles out and I'm going to go there and see where we are, and how far we are from where we were. My best guess is that a new Ability integrated itself with the newest round of Calm, and that perhaps it grants some manner of translocation that only springs into action under excitement." They had picked up two new run always last night, a blond that this morning sported raccoon like circles around their eyes, and a red head who looked terrified. "That does not mean I blame them, and I don't expect any of you to either." Mismatched green and purple eyes shifted a stern look over the assembled group, met with firm nods from her established troop, and slower acquiesce from newer members.

"That sounds like as good of a plan as any, Ava." Ben spoke in a way that carried, and she could have blessed him for it- he was rolling with her air of confidence as though it were real. He knew it wasn't, she knew that- they'd been together from the beginning but he was acting as if it were absolute so no one would question it right now. "I'll see if I can get the laptops onto the inline net here and see what areas you need to avoid for the Official eyes and text you location coordinates." None of them considered the notion that it wouldn't work, their world, the inline Internet system was everywhere if you could hack your way in. He had the skill to do so, shame the system he wanted hadn't carried over.

"Awesome Ben." She took a slow breath, calculating what needed doing most urgently and what would keep everyone put while she went on walkabout. "I want the rest of you to get the big top back up, we don't need the copper in the risers warping and the heat plus the sun will affect it very quickly." The risers were made in layers, including a layer of fine copper mesh. This was met with groans, because it was properly a heavy few hours work to do, even when they didn't have to sort the frame out. After the groaning came nods, they knew she was right. "If you manage that and I'm still not back, see about food for everyone and supplies. See about our animals, if they're here or not. I want everyone to stay close to the tents, and if you go for food, you go in at least trios. I'll be back soon." The group shifted as everyone glanced at partners and friends, discerning if they had grouping if they wanted to go.

More nods met her decree, and she turned with a military about face to change and head out. She didn't once glance back.

She wasn't "back soon' like she promised, but what she learned in the mean time was more than enough to make up for it.
