Batosai

((OOC Note: This memorial is the last half of another thread, found Here. I post this in memory of the character Shandren Hex.))

Finally her heart beat it's last, and Batosai removed his shakti from the wounds. Leaning over, he gently closed the eyes of the once half-tiger. Arms slid under the fallen and he stood up, calling on his renewed strength as he jumped up to the rooftops, heading for the cemetary.

For the first time on this world, the predator felt some semblance of remorse and regret for what he was forced to do merely to survive. It was true that tonight the Hunger had nearly taken complete control of him, and if he hadn't fed on this female, things would have been much worse. Still, as he looked at her now lifeless body, he couldn't help but wonder at her very feline beauty, almost like the females of his own kind.

Sighing deeply, he banished those thoughts with a shake of his head. It was done and she was dead. There was no going back now that this had happened. He could now do only one thing for her, a proper burial and honor her spirit.

Reaching the cemetary, Batosai looked for an unused piece of land, finally finding one near the hedges and rose bushes along the sides of the cemetary. Setting his burden down, wincing as a stab of pain comes from the wound in his side, the glass shard still embedded there, he'd tend to that later. Fingers and hands moving rapidly, forming hand signs to focus his Shii'Koh. "Earth style. Sand trap Arte!" Before him, the ground suddenly bucked, then a body-sized depression formed in the ground, a pre-made grave.

Batosai looked over at the new grave, then her body again, finally shaking his head. Drawing a knife, the predator moved over to a nearby tree and cut off a branch. Taking the branch over to her body, he planted the limb into the ground, then focused his Shii'Koh again, forming a new series of hand signs, "Hidden Arte, Mukoton!" He forced his Shii'Koh into the severed branch, directing the plant's cells to awaken and begin rapidly growing. The branch grew up and across the tigress' body, wrapping new branches and quickly forming into a living, grown coffin of tightly packed tree limbs.

Batosai moved over to the coffin and reached under to cut the slim branch that connected the new growth to the ground. Hefting the coffin carefully, he gently placed the whole thing into the new grave. Another Arte later, and the earth filled the grave, and a chunk of marble heaved itself from deep underground to serve as a marker. A few minutes with a kunai knife, and Batosai finally padded away, off to the Red Dragon to see to his wounds.

Behind, the marble shone white in the moonlight, and one surface bore the words: ~Here lies a valiant warrior.~ ~She gave her life so that another might live. ~Let all who pass this place honor her spirit for all time.~

Wisper

"What do you mean "the body is gone?"" Wisper's voice was low and hostile when she addressed the black clad priest of from the temple of the holy shadows who had been sent to help her escort the body of her cousin to its final rest. Three days they had been on the road to Kisan, and no one had said anything was amiss until now.

"I'm sorry M'lady. The nearest we can speculate is that the body you found in the alley wasn't a body at all, merely a manifestation. A twist of the shadows you called to cloak the back gardens of your shop. The further we got from the shop, the thinner those shadow's stretched until there was no more body." The voice of the priest was soft and gentle as he explained.

"If that was just a shadow, who the hell took her body and where is it now?"

"Lord Tobias and my associate are working on the problem now. Be patient."

Wisper growled, the growl of an injured wolf, and stalked off tossing on last remark over her shoulder. "Better make it quick. My patience is all worn out."

It had taken longer than expected to find out what had become of Shandren's body. So many things had happened to provide distractions. Between the birth of his twin Cailet's son and the death of Wisper, Tobi hadn't felt up to questing in the spirit world.

Tonight though was the cubs name day. The night it would be easiest to find Shandren's spirit if any fragment of it lingered. Tobi hoped the violent manner of her passing was enough to leave his sister's firstborn with regrets.

Tobias lit the fire in the hearth and sat before it on the floor staring into the flames. It could have been hours that passed or only minutes before he found what he sought.

"Uncle, I was almost ready to rest. Why did you call me?" The half tigress's shade was faded beyond what he had expected. As if she had been drained even before death.

"What happened Kitten, in that alley behind Wisper's shop?"

"I died of course. I tried to take the bastard with me but I failed." With the words came images, sounds and scents. Everything that she had witnessed the last moments of her life.

The shade started to fade away, leaving a final message. "Tell Mari Mama loved her."

There were tears on Tobi's cheeks when he finally opened his eyes again.
