Rumors Mill Vineyard and Winery was a villa of Italian inspirations built at the crest of a low hill south of Rhydin. The path twisted up to it through cedars, pine, and ash from the main road. Lamps sat on either side of the front door, but for the night of the Harvest Party, a line of small sconces led the way around the side of the house, over the bridge of the brook that turned the small water wheel, to the back patio.
Several tables were decorated with grape-shaped candles, short pillar candles of cinnamon and Merlot scents. A trio of musicians, guitar, violin, and accordion set the merry tone. It was a celebration of a harvest brought in and the promise of wine in the coming months and years. Lights were everywhere, hanging from tree bows, along the edges of the patio stones, and between the platters of food along a stretch of table. Another table had a variety of beverages, famous and infamous beers, wines imported and other, and two bottles left of Rumors Mill's first harvested red wines.
Jolyon had done his best to spread word that the attire for the evening was dressy casual. Of course, in Rhydin, that could mean many things, but for him that meant dark linen pants, a warm weave shirt of the same fabric tailored perfectly, and a loose fitting vest. He was, if he recalled the token photographs, the picture of a vineyard owner.
He was looking forward to seeing the variety of cultures in dress, and nervous that any would come at all.
Please feel free to post preparations or just expected attire for attending the event here.
