An image appeared before him of a village. It was a small town, with happy citizens and small shops and a cluster of houses. No one who lived there now would even remember the horrors of one night in the early winter" "How sad," Shade muttered to himself as he watched the image, "only the murderer remembers the victims now."

As the image became clearer and the details came into view, families and friends could be seen gathered around tables as they prepared for their Christmas dinners. Everyone appeared to be so happy and full of joy. Well, almost everyone. One lone being seemed to stand away from the rest, as though it were watching them, studying them in some unseen way.

"Ah yes?" he murmured to himself as he watched the image "Christmas" What was it' two, three thousand years ago?" His weathered fingers rested upon his chin. "But something's missing. Where is she?" Then, as if right on cue, a girl of maybe eighteen came away from the group of people she had been with towards the dark figure with a smile on her face.

The dark figure seemed to come into focus slightly and bits and pieces of its features became visible. The figure was a much younger, less worn Shade. A small mischievous smirk played at his face as the girl came up to him while he was leaning against the wall. "Yes Serena?" he asked to the girl, his dark eyes having a warm twinkle to them "What is it that I can do for you?" His head bowed ever so slightly towards her, even with his head bowed slightly he was taller than the girl was. "Shade, you need to stop that silly nonsense. After all, shouldn't my boyfriend at least sit with me on Christmas?" Serena's big blue eyes looked up at him as she tugged at his arm while she pouted. He had to chuckle at this "Oh how could I ever refuse a request from one as cute as you? and with a smile, he headed to the table with Serena and sat next to her as the family said their prayers.

Throughout their prayers, shivers went throughout Shade's body. He remained entirely silent as he listened to the prayers of the others, for though he was shaken, these people were Serena's family and friends. He was NOT going to do anything to ruin her Christmas. As the prayers were finished and everyone gazed upon the huge feast spread before them Serena reached over, grasped Shade's hand in hers, and pulled him to her for a quick peck to his cheek. He blushed at the kiss as a few of the others at the table glared at him.

"Ah yes" I remember. Her family never did approve of me." Shade sighed slightly as he continued to watch the images before him. "They were right about me; I was no good for her.?
