It was the silence in the middle of the night that did it to her. She sat listening to the sound of her breathing, praying for even the slightest other sound to break the monotony. Not even the rustle of a mouse broke the stillness.

She slipped from her bed and went down the spiral stairs to the workshop not bothering to dress in anything but her thin nightdress. It was one of the ones Dru had picked for her, sweet ruffles and white lace that brought out her dark eyes.

"Tom' Where are you?" She called to the golem quietly. She knew he'd hear her wherever he was. "I need you Tom."

The golem ambled out of the shadows and wrapped his metal arms around her waist. He was still like a child in so many ways. She ran her fingers through the spider silk that fashioned his short curls. "I'm hurting Tom, and I don't know how to make it stop. I feel like my heart is frozen and the chill is burning across my chest."

"Broken." It was a simple concept to Tom. "I fix." He detached himself from her and moved to her workbench. He lifted the locket she had been working on. It was a simple piece one window focused on the past, the other on the present. He brought it over and slipped it over her head.

"Tom how is this going to help?" She was curious to see what the golem had in mind so she made no move to stop him.

"I fix. Magic fix." He pointed to the locket. "Time fix."

He lifted one of her hammers and struck the locket where it rested against her throat. The locket shattered in a stream of sparks and blood sprayed across the room. The hammer dropped to the floor as the golem looked over his handy work. "Not broken any more."

He lifted something from the body left on the ground and hurried out into the darkness cradling his burden protectively to his chest. He secured it in the shack behind the shrine and forge where she had crafted her enchanted blades and returned to the shop to watch over the remains of his mistress.
