Belle was being followed. What she couldn't figure out was...how" She was vampire, nearly a deamon, and she could smell human. How could a human evade her"
The scritching of a blown leaf behind her sent her inches off the ground, damn she was jumpy tonight. She blew a puff of air to send dark locks from her eyes, those eyes lit up the dark alley with green hell-fire. She knew the Watch was after her, but something far more dangerous was after her, too.
Belle had read about what had happened to Veronica, had seen the Manor. Someone or something had a vendetta against her, that much was clear, but...who' Why"
A growl, her own, but unnoticed. Her eyes glazed and she became the woman she was the other night, when the hunger took her. Zaruk's hand touched her, and Belle was Belle no more. She became the killer he bred her to be, and she had no recollection of the woman she had tried to become.
Rats scurried away, scenting a predator among them. A wail of a hungry child, thin and desperate, from some window above her. Ears pricked, the Huntress paused, deliberating; an easy kill or the thrill of a slaughter"
Hellish giggles, maddening. What sort of question was that' Her demonic wings snapped open, velvet black against a star-pricked sky. She lept to the currents, swooping down in the dark park. No lights shone here, but it was far from empty.
Belle/Huntress moved silently through the brush, a pair of lovers scented. Their musky odors tantalizing, she struck quickly. First the male, nearly tearing off his head in the eagerness to taste him. Then, his woman. She was screaming, but paralized with fear. This one, this morsal, Belle/Huntress tore into like a rabid dog. Her fist punched a whole in the woman's breast plate, eager to get at her heart's blood. Delicious.
Moments later, sated but far from finished, the Huntress took to the skies again, searching for young blood, fresh and innocent.
She found it in a small child, lost, scared, and trembling on a park bench. The Huntress approached, giggling like a girl. "Come to me. I can help you find your way home, little one..." It was not her voice, but the voice of Zaruk.
