The Guide Returned

The winds whistled and wound through the forested space south of RhyDin City's main borders, lightly whipping at anything it came across. Unfortunately, one of the frames it managed to glance off of belonged to the suited nightmare called Hidou who had, up until point, merely been ruminating amid the sea of Cimmerian shade that nightfall had provided for him. His casual gait went unnoticed as he made for the city proper, all the while cursing the lack of eventful happenings in lieu of his time spent planning.

"You know, it's times like this that I should be getting something done, but the Boss would rather I wallow in the gloom of the Hall while I shore up power for the big confrontations he's got planned. If he spent more time preparing that new summon he managed to procure instead of fiddling around with Elysium's design, we'd probably already be done with this phase by now," he lamented aloud, kicking up some dirt in protest with his boots. True to form, the old man had frittered away an inordinate amount of time making certain the humanoid weapon's base frame was completed. Not mention, an enormous amount of energy had been needed merely to regain his hold on the 'astral plane' of their dimensional interstice. The whole thing smacked of excessive overthinking to him. Then again, perhaps that was the reason he didn't hold the title of Overseer...

In his attempts to banish the borderline jealous contempt he held for the Dread Lord's influence, he simply shifted the topic to one more suitable to the monologue format: the Temporal Ouroboros or more simply coined "Life Coils". It had been explained to him thoroughly enough that there was a more concrete reason as to why the two of them couldn't die outright; he, among others, were linked to their Lord via a number of presently immutable, metaphysical, and irretrievable bindings across time and space. They obeyed a simplistic directive: to preserve the existence of not one, but each connected being's soul. Without every single member being killed at once, the Coils would register their deaths as merely an 'injury' to the collective and set to work healing it. The result, you ask" Well, eventually any one of the members who 'died' would reform without much in the way of defects. He was certain that Scionius meant to manipulate the Coils so that he would never die, but he wasn't the only one capable of creating and solidifying them. He'd a few targets in mind for himself.

"Were I to make one latch onto say....Elysium or Nyx....or hell, even that little wench, Terezi....my neck would be spared the chopping block for a while. The more I gather, the quicker the proverbial wound in the chain would correct itself. Hell, if I can find her, I could always sneak one onto that Manticore woman, too. So many choices..." The wind's rustling of the foliage about him, coupled with the deepened state of his pondering, did much to dull his senses and weaken his awareness of his surroundings. At this point, it wouldn't be too much trouble to ambush the snake. That said, who would go out of their way to try and blindside Hidou" After all, it wasn't like his nefarious plots were out in the open just yet, right' At least....not all of them.

...Right?
