Gentle Repose

Gentle Repose: -Luric "the Chainmarred" Strongspike or as some circles had called him Luric Chainmarred, had been born one-hundred and eighty-four years ago, he wasn't old enough to be considered an elder dwarf by any means, nor was he a child who chose to do things or follow plans through on a whim, he was a figure to be respected, standing at four foot six inches tall and weighing just over two-hundred pounds, he leaned there near the window using his double-bladed Dwarven waraxe as a prop at the moment he had been looking out the window watching the woods and the now icy field as the sun had managed to stay out the day before long enough it had melted away a lot of snow, the land was soggy with mud and streams of water had started trickling along the land, his gaze had panned far to the left out the window and he could see the crater from his vantage point and was watching as water from the melt and run off was finding its way down to its bottoms, he huffed softly in thought, then fingers of his left hand gently ran through a part in his well tended, lengthy and thick beard, which was just as red as the hair on his head but his beard was longer and had trinkets and clasps braided through its length at spots, his attentions went to the room once again as he heard Asha's disturbed dreaming, he straightened to watch the two on the sofa quietly, but not intending to disturb them or invade their privacy his eyes once again returned to the distant line of trees, his thoughts settling—-

—Asha had by then seen that Charles was sleeping again and she stood, very slowly so that she could make sure that her legs could support her, she pulled the thick fur blanket up and tucked it around Charles, the tray from yesterday mornings breakfast had been cleared from the coffee table and in its place was a pitcher of water and clean glasses, she poured a glass and drank it, her mind finally clearing the grogginess sleep had left her with, she made her way to the fireplace, bending she reached for the fire-poker, feeling the cold metal in her hand she took the long tool and steadying herself with her other hand on the mantel as she leaned to stoke the flames moving the logs on the grate and pushing them over beyond the hearth, she watched as the orange glow grew and felt the head rise as the flames churned and ebbed once again over the logs, once the warm started back into the room she sat the tool back in its hanging bracket at the edge of the hearth and turned to look upon the guard for the evening, who was posted by the window, seeing it was Luric caused her to smile, she slowly pulled the robe close over her shoulders, the draft coming through some of the broken windows showed just how cold it was outside on this dark winter night, as she made her way across to the window she spoke just above a whisper to the dwarf of her elite guard- "good evening, Master Dwarf..." -she spoke the title with a friendly air but one full of respect- "or is it late enough to be called the morn?" -she wondered just how long she had slept, when she looked out the window the moon was hidden behind high grey clouds though no snow had fallen that day-

Charles Blackstone: Charles sleep was by no means peaceful. The nightmares clung to his unconscious thoughts even as Asha left his side. He stirred a bit but did not wake — "Pull up .Get the drop ship out of he..." The dropship explodes and a mixture of human and metallic parts spray out upon a war torn landscape. A younger Charles, with young blue eyes, stands in disbelief. "F*ck f*ck f*ck" Curses spilled out as he turned to a woman who was half human half-robotic "Captain we have no way off this hell hole!" — Charles stirs over onto his side, gripping at the couch lightly — "Captain what do you mean....Stand our ground against those ....those things!" Fear filled the air as a large worm like creature explodes from the ground. Charles, using the same rifle that was propped against the couch, began to fire at the beast to no effect "Run Captain Run!!" A much larger ship soon appeared over head and beamed him up into its bowls — "What do you mean he is missing" There was female voice, young and vibrant "He can't be just gone!?" A older male voice speaks "They took him....I don't know where. But he is gone." — Charles flips onto his side quietly and stole some of the space that Asha had been using on the couch to sleep — "Tell us. Where is she.Where is the girl" A voice called out right before the sound of large amounts of electricity entering flesh. Panting Charles spits up blood "I will never tell you ...." The electricity surges again for a much longer time— Charles stands in front of a castle of sorts. He isn't himself, older, the scar on his eye is still rather fresh. His eyes, normally a cold grey are completely white and his whole body is wrapped in light. The castle suddenly explodes, rock going everywhere as the screams of women and children erupt into the air....all goes black —as only the screams remain. — Charles jolts awake, his eyes wide open as his hand reaches for his rifle instinctively. He is breathing hard and heavy as he stares forward at the table that had housed the food earlier. All was quiet....except the screams.

Gentle Repose: -the battlehardened dwarf gained a smile on his lips, the deep scars which had been inflicted long ago and healed over leaving their chainlike marring deep in his flesh, the length of the left side of his face down below the collar of his shirt and armor, pulled at the smile but he seemed not to be bothered by them in the least, his voice was strong but quiet and dripped with that old dwarven accent though he spoke common tongue- "ah.lass tis only a' hour from dawn...the morn' air is fresh and the cold still lingers...I expect the snow to thaw heavily...but more will fall" -his heard the sounds of broken sleep from deeper within the reading room but his attention was still out the window, though he spoke to Asha-

—Asha nodded quietly, she heard Charles troubled sleep but for the moment she listened to the Dwarf's words- "..that is the way of winter, we have seen this lands harshest storms come and go in these few years.." -a nod of her head- "tell me...news of the village."

Charles Blackstone: Charles could barely hear the sound of Asha and Lurics voices as his head was throbbing with a migraine. The sound from the dream had carried to his conscious mind and it was throwing him off. His eyes were their cold, steel selves with a tine speck of blue dotted in every now and again. He felt like he was panicking, pulling his rifle close to him he looked at it softly. He didn't want to interrupt Asha and her Dwarven guard, as such he kept himself to the couch -As his mind swirled around the screams of civilians and innocents. Unconsciously his eyes started to tear up, and a few tears started to stream down his face.

Gentle Repose: -Luric straightened his posture and rolled those broad shoulders as his one blue eye and one milkish white eye with deep scaring above and below it looked to the tiefling, then idly panned down to the upper blade of his waraxe, he nodded knowing she wished to hear the news he could offer- "..men worked late into the twilight last night..until the fires could barely match the chill of the winds...they have cleared wreckage from the village and started stockpiles of lumber safe behind the walls, a man in the village lost everything he had while the battle went on...his home and family perished...as well as his shop..it all crumbled into the pit" -he exhaled and inhaled and then continued to speak- "a family of five is living with kin...after loosing their home...Maester Jarin has sent for druids...if they come they may have the skill to heal the chasm" Gentle Repose: -Asha listened to him and nodded her head a sad expression came to her face hearing the news of loss she knew there had been vast damages done- "these men...they work to rebuild their home...tis noble" -she glanced over and saw that Charles was awake, part of her wanted to go to him, but the dwarfs news had her wondering if there were more she needed to know, she stood still and waited for him to go on-

Charles Blackstone: Charles needed to walk. Silently he stood, seeing that Asha had turned back to the dwarf. Softly opening and closing the door and gave a pat the the elite guard that stood outside. The screaming in his head tagged with the massive migraine made his stomach uneasy. Just as he was able to step outside he keeled over and vomited. The fresh cold air of the morning stung in his lungs as he pulled on a jacket that he grabbed. The only thing to identify him from afar was his rifle that he had slung onto his back. Glancing about he slowly made headway towards the chasm. When he got there he stopped and looked around the mostly ruined village and knelt down. He felt some of the scorched earth in his hand as he looked to a house that was precariously on the edge of the chasm. The yelling started to intensify as he slowly approached it.

Gentle Repose: -indeed Luric went on to speak after a moment of watch out over the melting field that was running off into the crater from different tiny distributory streams, by spring the crater would form a new lake, the lands had changed drastically around the keep but only time and nature could tell how, then his eyes moved back to Asha- "..Lady Asha...it has been two years since the portal failed..now.." -he seemed to relax his stance just a bit as he spoke to her- "..I may just be a warrior...and not enlightened on much else? -his tone seemed to tell that he didn't think it were true, the dwarfs expression went from the stony watchful one of a guard to a grin- "but if ye had anything to do with its opening once...." -he cleared his throat and chuckled to her- "perhaps opening it again...wouldn't nae be a bad idea.." -he went on before she had time to speak- "..ye could bring in folk who...could aid the people....perhaps families here still have ties in Golorion"

—Asha's brows rose as she heard his words, she was listening and her mind started to work on his suggestion, she had secrets that no one knew and the portal had secrets too, it might have been strange to others that she, the imp of Harrowstone, feared a simple gateway, but some secrets ran deep, she kept herself from letting on her feelings as her pulse wanted to rise, she exhaled as gently as she could - "..Luric...old friend, the portal fell.." -she let the lie pass over her lips, not meaning to lie to the Dwarf, but that's what she had told, countless times over the last two years...and she stuck with it, hoping that the practiced lines would pass as truth, many a being had bought it before- "...even you know that magic can be at times finicky and fading"-

Charles Blackstone: The house was still rather sturdy and put together, even though half of it was over a large chasm in the ground. The floor and roof had yet to give in, meaning that in theory one could step inside of it. Quietly Charles approached the door of the house. It had been singed, with a large burn mark going across it. Carefully and quietly he pushed open the door. Inside he looked around, soem photos on the floor, destroyed glassware. All of which had been scattered as the house found its new settling point on the edge of the Chasm. The screaming became worse and worse the further Charles moved into the house. He gripped at his head as the pain continued to grow. He stopped halfway through the house. The tipping point of the hole thing. Slowly he pushed over to the other side. A great groan of unsupported wood creaked out from the house. It managed to take his weight, just.

Gentle Repose: -Luric watched the tiefling and his grin faded back but his features didn't become hardened, he nodded his head and watched as the first rays of the sun had cast a purple and pink tent to the eastern sky, far away over the horizon- "..twas only a suggestion" -he said innocently, the dwarf may have had secrets of his own, there was a twinkle in his eye, inside he hoped he had sparked some form of curiosity in the impborn, he had noticed without having to look that Charles had taken leave of the sofa and the room- "..ah..seems another is awake and moving about now" -a small smile under the beard—Asha glanced over to the sofa and saw the words rang true..a small nod to the dwarf, a small pang of worry came over her and she turned to move away from the window and the elite guard—Luric reached out and gently his left hand caught her arm slowly, his leather gloved fingers curved around her arm lose but enough so to stop her so he could speak before she moved away completely- "..M'lady, consider what I have spoke here..." -he nodded to her as he looked up at her- "..and..take great care of yourself lass" -a small wink to her as he released her again— Asha nodded her head, her expression was straight but a small smile came to her lips- "much...thanks" -having been released of his grip she reached up and patted his hand before, she took steps across the reading room and into her bedroom, she wondered where Charles had gone to..but thoughts of other things were flooding to her mind too...she went about cleaning herself up and changing clothes-

Charles Blackstone: The purple and pink skies filled the now abandoned house with an odd dance of colors on the wood and shattered glass. Charles swung carefully around and pressed his foot down on the steps that lead to the house's second story. Each step became a labor to take as he clung to the railing. As his head cleared into the open second story he looked about quietly. Toys were scattered about the floor as he finally made the last step up. He knelt down and picked up a small, sewn teddy bear. His head suddenly stopped hurting and the voices left. The relief came with a sigh as he turned to look a the other parts of the room. That's when he heard it "Sir...." A young girl, pale and cold looking was holding tight to a very eerily similar teddy bear. "why did you not help me..." Charles stared in horror at the girl as another one appeared and asked the same thing and another and another until dozens appeared, all chanting out of sync with the question "Why did you not help?" Suddenly a taller female appeared in front of him. "c..captain?" He blinked as he saw her "H...how" he chorus of questions never ended as the ghostly apparition reached forward "Why did you let me die." Another female, older and in a uniform that was opposing of his own appeared "Why did you kill me?" Then hundreds more appeared as Charles gripped at his ears as the noise was too unbearable as someone grabbed his shoulder and the noise stopped. — The house had started to tip over and was slowly and loudly breaking. Suddenly a small explosion and a body was flung out of it. — Charles hit another building hard and slumped to the ground. Although he was hurt, it wasn't major, just some burns on his front and his clothes, mostly showing the scars underneath and some pain in his back...all was quiet.

Gentle Repose: -Luric kept his senses tuned, he was watchful out the window but also listening for sounds of alarm, ever ready to act if it was needed of him, his eyes on the world outside—

—Asha took a few moments to strip and wash with clean water from a pitcher and basin, a glance was given to a nearby mirror, the tiefling knew the piece of heavily polished glass was never a useful tool for her, one of the many traits she had obtained from birth was she carried no reflection nor did a shadow that was her own ever follow her, she looked down at her form a moment and let those ice blue eyes stop at scars both new and old for a time before she exhaled sharply, she heard the explosion in the village before and wondered what was going on, quickly she donned under garments and a thick tunic of black, thick black pants, then worked to pull her well fitting leathers over the cloth, a small and short sigh of near bliss came to her to be back in the leathers, she grabbed a thick black cloak and her weapon belt from the back of a chair nearby, still in its loop she found her morning star, most favored of her weapons, checking it over the pouches and all were still intact, she called to the Dwarf- "Luric...go on and join the guards..I need you with the numbers" —The Dwarf hesitated but would salute her with a fist over his heart and quickly move off to see where his aid was most needed in the village—Asha quickly pulled on her black leather boots and stepped out into the hallway—

Charles Blackstone: Charles could feel blood dripping. He reached to his side and pulled out a metallic fragment. He winced in pain as he gripped his side and leaned his head against the building he had landed against. In front of him the house had collapsed entirely and crashed down into the chasm. Inspecting the rest of the body he noticed one thing was missing, a single grenade. He pant as he pulled another fragment out of his thigh, whimpering as he gripped the building and got to his feet. His head was clear, and he didn't see nor hear any of the apparitions. Soon thereafter some of the guard were marching towards him. Tears were streaming down his face uncontrollably as he felt his knees buckle a bit.

Gentle Repose: -Luric made his way down stairs at double-pace, his war axe kept close to his chest as he moved, the stout dwarf didn't run but at the same time the warrior moved quickly for a dwarf, he observed all that was going on around him, inside the keep he saw that servants were busy cleaning and men were helping to mend the windows, some were boarded up completely making areas of the keep seem like it were midnight hours dark, but he moved on through it using his natural dark vision so he was unhindered he moved through the keep and down into the main hall after some time, many of the cots had been cleared out but in the north end of the large room a few had been moved and had the few injured resting, the clerics were fewer as most of them had gone to rest....the large fireplaces at either end of the room had been fully rekindled and the warmth was near heavy in the hall, he slowed his pace and pulled the hood of the black-green cloak he wears over his head before moving outside, he had heard the explosion from upstairs and saw the heavy smoke rising up from the outer village, the dwarf asked no questions of any of his fellow guard an made his way toward the main gate-

—Asha had intended to make her way downstairs and that was where she had headed, she soon had made her way into the mainhall, a few servants had stopped to offer their services to her along the way and she simply waved them away, she stood atop the stairs just to the side of her chair and looked out over the large room letting the warm air envelop her for a short time-

Charles Blackstone: The two guards hat had ventured out first approached the bleeding Charles and were taken aback by how scarred and bloody his figured looked. Pensively they rose their weapons at him and called out to him. Their voices didn't register, no sound registered as Charles barely lifted his head up to see them. To him they weren't Guards, they were some sort of figure of imagination, and terrible to his view. He stepped back slowly from them terrified of them. When they took at step closer his rifle was swung forward and aimed at then. The guards slowly stopped their approached and backed up some. In pain Charles found himself, back up against another wall, rifle held shakily as more guards approached he swung it around and aimed at each other. Their talks and yells of telling him to calm down never registered as he continued to hold his aim.

Gentle Repose: -Luric's keen hearing caught shouts out in the village, familiar voices, the guards he had fought by and worked with for years, he had been drawn to the sounds and smells of the explosion and came through the square along the edge of the chasm, he glanced down into the long pit in the ground and kept calmly moving forward, he sound rounded a building and peered down the village road, he saw six of his men standing as if they had been marching and all met at a center point and then others standing further off, they all were watching a form near wall of a building, his pace slowed as he came closer, hearing their yells, he saw it were Charles who was up against the building with a weapon aimed for the guards and he spoke up over the yells- "...He' whats all di' now...there be a problem?" -his voice was level as he spoke in that dwarven accent-

Charles Blackstone: Charles saw Luric step through the line of guards and shouted towards him "Luric. My friend. g...get away from them..." He aimed his rifle at the guard, which to his eyes were demons of all sorts and varieties. Some devilish and red, others black and sinister, some made of blood and gore from humans. All of which started to terrify Charles as he pressed his back to the wall tighter. He beckoned once again to Luric with his hand.

Gentle Repose: -in the mainhall Asha looked over to the north end and watched as injured were cared for, she let her eyes scan along the cots, then up to one of the large stained glass windows that lined the way to the doors, the scenes on each were different and a few had holes in them but most where intact, she knew that the keep had been damaged heavily and from the news the dwarf had shared the outer village had been torn in two, she let her eyes drift from the images of stained glass to a set of double wooden doors she'd had a lock put on by a mastersmith in the past, the doors were hidden behind a set of curtains that sat in the same wall that ran behind the chairs but no one dared to move the curtain back as of late, she knew exactly where they were, Lurics words resounded in her head, ''...aid from Golorion" "open the portal" the words replayed in her mind—-

-Out with the men who stood watching Charles..Luric heard the words Charles spoke, he thought on them for a short moment as he stepped slowly, safely alongside his brothers of the sword, a few of the men urged Luric with caution and whispers of what they had walked up on, he considered everything and he kept his voice level- "Ah my lad...keep yer wits about you..." -he slowly made his way out in front of the men and toward Charles but his pace was kept relaxed showing no fear-

Charles Blackstone: Charles saw Luric slowly approach him and when he was close enough he pulled the dwarf to him. "Luric....The demon kin are back.....they.." He started to stammer as he looked over the guard. Seeing that Luric was able to walk through their lines with no problem he looked at him "Warn Asha...she nee...needs to be here to stop them." He kept his weapon raised as he quickly pushed the dwarf from the wall and through the line of guards. His bleeding had started to get worse from both the small wound on his side and his thigh, the jagged cuts making so more surface started to bleed.

Gentle Repose: -Luric, being pulled to Charles once he was close enough he glanced back to his men who where standing in almost stunned silence now, he then heard the plea from the man and noticed the fresh blood that was visible on Charles side and thigh, the dwarf felt him try to send him away and would plant his feet and he shook his head, he looked up at Charles- "no lad..Charles...listen to me!" -his tone was firm as if he had gone from a warrior to a general, his voice echo'd between the buildings and though short of stature and stout of build the dwarf seemed to grow, though remaining his four foot six height, his voice clear with its accent- "...these are men I have served with...some from the time they were barely children...men from all walks of exsistance..you are in the village...tis as peaceful this morn as it can be..but there was an explosion...moments ago...tis why i left Lady Asha's side...these men" -he motioned to the ones gathered- "are youre brothers as much as they are mine!" -his voice echoed over the village and had an air to it of leadership and ability to lead vast armies into battle, he licked his lips and stood before Charles, the dwarven warrior he was-

Charles Blackstone: Charles looked at him and blinked "What do you mean. I see no men. No guards. I see demons. Demons of the void that have been sent here." He turned towards them and blinked a few times, his vision going hazey as what Luric said was true, there were men there, and then there were demons, and then men and so on. A flashing cylce as his head and world started to spin. Loosing his balance he leaned against the wall and clawed at his eyes, tears starting to flow as everything around him seemed to melt away into nothingness, his mind playing tricks on him, bringing nightmares into reality.

Gentle Repose: -In the keep Asha had paused strangely against the thick and heavy curtian, her eyes had closed as words had poured into her head as well as visions and memories, in her mind she heard "..help the people." in Luric's voice, though it was quiet, then other whispers flooded in 'Golorion' and "repair the village" among them, she saw herself sitting in the main hall she was sitting on her chair, the hall was crowded almost bursting with people, some dressed in finery, others not so fine, they had come before her bringing payment or trade goods for passage through the portal, she had sent some forcefully back to Golorian and others she allowed through depending on the gifts they lay before her, the vision went on but forcefully changed as she watched a skirmish unfold before her there on the smooth stone floor below the stairs to her chair, she watched as the looser was drug away and the victor remained and was allowed passage..she couldn't remember if it was to or from which ever world, the visions moved faster and some she wished she could pull her eyes away from but they played out until quickly she felt as if she had plunged into a cold dark place...though she was standing with her fingers against the curtain, she cleared her mind and then heard as if someone had whispered over her shoulder, clear and crisp a voice on her ear, "Open the door!...it was in her head, her fingers fumbled with the heavy cloth—

—- Outside standing with Charles, the dwarf watched him lean against the wall he kept his voice almost soft as he spoke- "Lad..you see visions..before your eyes...breathe...your safe here...you have my word" -he waved the guards to continue their duties and most all of them marched on to patrol, the others slowly cleared the area-

Charles Blackstone: Charles shook his head "Th..they spoke to me....In the house....They asked me why..." He looked up at Luric. Charles' normally cold and calm face was distraught with hatred of himself and fear. Something was haunting him very much so in his reality. He fell to the ground weeping and stammering over his words. He felt broken mentally. Things he had one, things he had forgotten about seemed to flood back at him all at once —He looked to Luric for a moment "there is no s...safe place for...a man as my own..." He whimpered as he retched in pain as he slowly forced himself to stand. His vision still blurred and still fading out he looked to Luric as he then looked over the man and saw a floating apparition at where the home was. Although the being was incorporeal, Luric could also see it just for a moment before it vanished.

Gentle Repose: -Luric stood less than a foot from Charles, the dwarf was standing at guard when Charles stood- "...memories...or things the mind has made to haunt ye..Lad..if you have to see them...they are a thing meant to rattle ye from the very pit inside yer soul.....you need to push onward...past them..." -he still had his feet planted firmly as Charles came to his feet and when the two of them looked toward where the house had once stood..the dwarf focused on the incorporeal being which showed itself before it vanished, he gave a low grunt and his blue eye took on a slightly fiery look to it- "death...rears an ugly face..." -he stayed firm and his gaze moved to Charles-

—Inside the mainhall Asha worked to pull back the heavy curtain and slip past it into the space in front of the doors, her eyes glowed for a second as fingers found the lock, she took the smooth mechanism into her hands and remembered there was no ...keyhole for this lock, she laid her hand on the thick solid door, the wood was rough but smooth against her hand in the darkness behind the tapestry, she exhaled and thought about the space beyond the door, she felt cold as she continued to concentrate, she had been inside the room beyond thousands of times before, she knew it well, it was an extension of the main hall, a used long ago as a place to welcome guests when they came to visits, in the past it had been a warm place to sit...she faded from sight there on one side of the door and appeared leaning in darkness against the other side of the door-

Charles Blackstone: Charles shivered a bit as he aw the child vanish. He shook his head as he looked at Luric and shuddered a bit "None of them are made....they are my actions....my hands committed every single one of the atrocities that haunt my senses..." He muttered towards the dwarf as he looked at his two shrapnel wounds. They were light wounds that seemed to bleed more than their actual worth and he would be fine with just cleaning them and then bandaging them. He glanced towards Luric "I....Apologize..." He let out a low sigh before looking around "It might be bet if Asha knows that it was me that caused the explosion, and stay her worries."

Gentle Repose: -Luric, reached up and put a hand on Charles shoulder a strong grip was made but he squeezed it then a smile came to his face- "we all 'ave things tha' haunt us Lad...whether false or things we caused.." -the hand he had touched Charles with was brought to back to him and he taped to fingers against the side of own head with that hand- "the mind.." -shaking his head- "sometimes can nae be trusted" -then he lowered lowered his hand to his chest and a fist tapped over his heart- "if the heart is true..then trust lies there" -he nodded his head and finally his stance was relaxed, he pushed his war axe into a special sling on his back where it rested, with easy access..his other hand would search for a small pouch which he brought out from under his cloak, as well as a finely crafted very ornate dwarven tobacco pipe, he worked to fill and prepare the bowl for a smoke, taking a few steps away from Charles—-

-Asha exhaled and could almost feel her breath on the air, opening her eyes she could hear her heart beating in her ears, her eyes were having trouble adjusting, there was no light, the windows in this room were all stained glass with ornate images and none of them had cracked, broken or been misplaced, thick curtains were closed over them, no light of the morning was let through, she took a few steps from the door and immediatly thought it was a mistake to do so-

Gentle Repose

Charles Blackstone: Charles saw the dwarf trot off with his smoking pipe. After a while of trying to gain back his senses Charles walked slowly up to the keep, rifle on his back. Some of the guards that saw him earlier and pointed at him, while a few told some of the townsfolk. Stepping inside he moved over to the stash of bandages and procured some and quickly wrapped up his wounds before Sitting down on the edge of one of the empty cots. Even though he had slept he still felt the exhaustion from the many days awake before. His eyes drifted about the room and stopped over the curtains behind Ashas chair. He let out a sigh as his eyes drifted down to the Throne that was hers and closed his eyes. He couldn't let her know his past. He just couldn't let her see the monster that hid inside of him.

Gentle Repose: -Asha felt herself shiver the cold seemed to cut straight through her clothing and armor, she whimpered softly usually she had some resistance to cold but something was unnatural about the chill, she gritted her teeth and shaking fingers reached under the cloak and into a pouch on her belt, she felt around and pulled out a small stone, when she pulled her hand open and the stone in her fingers, light emitted from the stone as if she had brought out a torch, she quickly used the source of light out before her at arms length, as she looked around the gathering room voices seemed to fill the room, at least in her mind, she pushed deeper in the room, pulling her cloak around herself as she heard "come...Asha Impborn...come closer" "open it", "save your people", "Imp"., she went deeper into the room, chills making her teeth want to chatter, the tiefling gasped as she backed up and bumped into a small table, something had flashed into her vision just beyond the reaches of the light stone and she sent the table over and book knocked over an empty vase which shattered to the floor, Asha became paniced and quickly shown the light out infornt of her in all directions as quickly as she could move her arm- "wh...who is there!" -her voice was barely a yell as the cold seemed to steal any volume from the air- "show yourself!" -she tried to remind herself this was her home and there was no way anyone could have gotten into this room, her left hand reached for the loop with her morning star which hung at her side, the handle of the weapon seemed heavy in the loop as she continued to hear voices, layered one on another and again another as she pulled herself to stand upright—the clatter of a vase breaking and a heavy thud from a table falling over would be muted to the mainhall outside the room, it may have even been mistaken for someone in the kitchens making noise-

Charles Blackstone: Charles heard he clanking from the vase and glanced towards the kitchen and shrugged a bit. He was trying to recover himself as he sat on the cot. It took many minutes before he felt okay enough to stand up and look about. He was still visibly shaken and starting to get rather cold. That's when it hit him. He had left his bag with most of his gear down here right before the attack. He looked around and then headed towards the chair that Asha normally sat in and low and behold there is was. A rather large and heavy duffle bag. He dropped his rifle and katana off of his back and then rummaged around and grabbed a heavy jacket that was at the bottom. He stood up quietly and then looked at the curtain. He raised an eyebrow, his trained eyes seeing a small bit of ruffle in the curtain. He stepped forward and peeked behind it and saw a door. "How did I not notice this?" He asked himself as he slowly pushed the door open.

Gentle Repose: -voices, the voices kept bombarding Asha's senses, she tried to quieten them and clear her head but the onslaught became louder, she continued deeper into the gathering room, sure that if any moisture had gotten into the room there would have been everywhere...but just the cold persisted and again something was seen in in the edge of light, the stone began to flicker- "oh..no..n-no.." -her voice cracked and she saw her breath on the air heavy- "Damnit no!" -the light faded down to just a few inches around her hand, she looked up and saw a figure, a man at least tall like a man wearing rags under near disrepaired armor, his skin seemed stretched over his form and his left hand was missing leaving a stump, into which had been shoved the blade of a broken sword, he grinned with a mouth missing teeth and tongue and lurched forward toward her as the light in her hand went out, Asha let out a scream, but even to her ears her own voice didn't travel far, she moved back and attempted to dodge from where she thought she was being attacked, but the hit attempt never came, this sent fear through the tiefling and she turned in a full circle in the darkness, the stone clutched in her hand glowed dimly, she pushed her hand out before her and walked on, she was still hearing voices in her head and now the pull of the portal was calling to her physically, she felt drawn on into the room——-Charles would push against the door and it gave a few inches, then the lock which looked like a padlock but had no hole for a key stopped the doors from being moved much more, he might see a faint light flicker and go out somewhere deeper inside the blocked room he would hear a very faint scream and feel unnatural cold come around the crack at the double doors edges.

Charles Blackstone: He looked through the keyhole of the locked door quietly seeing the faint light flicker inside and then the scream..."Asha..." He could feel the unnatural cold seeping out of the room slight and shivered a bit. Backing away from the door he would slam his shoulder...No budge....He slammed hard into it again...Still nothing. He let out a huff of air "I really don't want to do this." He looked around the room. Seeing the one healer stepping down the stairs he looked to her "Have everyone cover their ears." He would wait as the healer moved about the cots and the injured plugged and covered their ears. He slung his rifle around and press the barrel near where he though the lock would be. Aiming down so it wouldn't damage much if anything inside he silently pulled the trigger. The splinters bounced off of his heavy coat. Once it was clear he would slam into the door and see if he got a result.

Gentle Repose: -the doors seemed as strong as ever but the lock lay hanging from its place, when he pushed against the doors this time they gave a seeming tired groan as they hadn't been opened and had settled a bit in the years on the stone floor, the cold air would hit him once he was inside and the room seemed cavernous, which was strange because it shouldn't have been all that big, the gathering room which was more like a small ballroom which had chairs, sofas and reading areas in places, the room could be crowded if there were lots of guests but it seemed as if it were wider and much longer than it should be he would be in complete darkness once out of the light from the fireplace in the mainhall— Asha felt she had been walking for hours, she had bumped into a table and chairs causing her to take two or three steps back, when she did she backed into something with an audible "oOff" the air left her for a moment, that was when her hand reached back and she felt clammy clay like skin beneath her fingers, she couldn't see what she had hit, but it shouldn't' have been there, she quickly spun and pulled up her hand without a thought her palm erupted with green-black flame, she reached quickly for the morning star with her other hand and before her stepped the creature, the man-like thing she had seen moments before, she gave a panicked cry and threw the flame from her fingers, it flew forward and ignited the fleshy being and cast light around the two of them, there in a circle around her the thing screeched madly and flailed to put out the flame..Asha saw others all slowly moving toward her much the same in different states of their tortured deaths, some where closing in fast upon her, these things had been moving up on her in the darkness while she had walked" the thought rattled her...she could see other forms larger and smaller..the room almost had a funhouse effect as if it weren't the room at all, she felt a bit light headed...the voices and sounds and what she had walked into was a load on her senses, she glanced behind her and saw the portal, and the words..'open the portal Asha" screamed in her mind and all at once three of the stretched skinned horrors lept at her-

Charles Blackstone: Charles didn't have time to count the number of things in the room before he knew he had to act. Rifle slung with one hand, katana slowly drawn from is back scabbard with a long and rewarding metal on metal grind he broke into a sprint towards the small flickering fel-fire. In his free left hand a ball of light was tossed into the air and floated above him. His light was slightly more powerful than the one that Asha had used but still wasn't able to fight back against the mass of the magical darkness that clung to the room The funhouse effect wasn't fun either, he finally reached Asha coming up behind one of the figures and driving his katana clean through it with a single thrust to its mid section "Asha!" He called out to her.

Gentle Repose: -she heard Charles, at the moment she was busy, she had been been matching blow for blood from the horror before her with its broken blade for a hand, it fought with speed and strength, she had also been moving to dodge the blows from the other two that had been close enough to join into the fight, as the creatures became aware of Charles a group of them started to crowd toward them, four of them, most had some eerie aspect about them other than that stretched skin, some missing digits or limbs replaced by gnarly weapons, their energy seemed to be fueled by the death they had suffered, these demon-thralls were elite warriors—Asha screamed out as the blade-handed one sent his sword into her quickly and blood sprayed from a low cut in her left side, she brought her morning star up and imbued fel-energy into the black head of the weapon whirled with magic and it connected against the creatures head, shattering the skull and the magic exploded down through its body, she quickly turned and ducked out of the way of the oncoming onslaught from the pair that was coming after her, she tumbled away and used a sofa as a shield, disappearing behind it for a moment trying to catch her breath and some ground, fingers reached into the cut in the leathers, and she felt blood pooling underneath-

Charles Blackstone: The four that crowded towards him cut him off. One, with a jagged short blade cut down at him and he leaped back and lunged at it. Regardless of hitting it or missing he would duck down and sweep his blade for one that was weilding some sort of ball and chain for an arm. Hopefully his sporadic movements would throw them off as he dropstepped and spun for the third that had a long pike and used the momentum for a slashing attack for the beasts weapon arm. The fourth was left alone as he spun his katana and kept his wits about him, trying to draw as many as he could to him and away from asha, even unmasking: but not using, his magical powers to falsely show he was the strongest one in the room.

Gentle Repose: -she glanced up and let blood drip from her fingers as one of the two that had been coming for her leapt over the sofa, it roared and chitered, its bottom jaw had been replaced with a metal trap, Asha laid back and used her feet and legs to catch the horror and thew him over her and behind her, the thing hit the wall and screeched out a metallic chatter as he slid down, She quickly rolled to her feet and searched for the other one, the two met face to face almost as she got right to her, she had to block by grabbing his arm as he brought a chain up aiming to smack her with its barbed ends, two others were coming toward her she could see them making their way closer, but for now she was in a power struggle with the chain user, finally she brought her left leg up and used her own trip attempt on him, he didn't fall but faltered long enough for her to put space between them, she readied her weapon, her wound was deep an blood was making a trail of droplets on the floor, but she shook the pain off and attempted to focus...her breaths were coming quickly and it hurt to move but she had to keep her actions fluid, she couldn't stop, she attempted to concentrate to start a summon spell-

Gentle Repose: -those who had massed around Charles were just as powerful as the others, the first with the jagged short blade had missed and kept coming attempting to strike at the man, it was screeching at the others perhaps giving a call out or just maddened venting its frustration, the ball and chain user gave a roar as it spun the head of its weapon in the air and let it loose and fly toward Charles again, the pike user lost its arm and would turn and run away from the man moving off away from the fight and light source, six..were now around Charles, others lurked in the shadows and Asha had four in her close area-

Charles Blackstone: The ball smacked into his shoulder and gave a rather painful and loud crunch. This is what he got for not wearing proper armor. Turning towards the one that had just hit him her spun his blade and lunged for the kill and then backed up. Seeing a few forms moving towards the now spell channeling Tiefling Charles yelled towards them "Cowards. Fight me. Come on" He beat his chest and then parried the next attack from the jagged blade user, their blades sparkling when they clashed. Charles continue his yelling into almost a roar as he spun for the fourth that had been left alone in the first barrage of attacks and went to kick him into a nearby chair and then run him through.

Gentle Repose: -her summons was on the verge of completion when the creature with the trap-metallic jaw sprang up from the wall and charged at her, going to leap onto her, the spiked chain user connected his barbed chain into her chest..it caught the armor and he tugged, Asha screamed out in pain. but that painful noise soon turned to one of pure aggravation....the floor around her started to quake and a green-black portal shot up out of the floor and from it stepped one massive red hoof, then another and a large red bestial humanoid gave a roar that shook the room, the winged creature was easily ten feet tall and large red leather wings flexed, large clawed hands clutched as a steam rose from its bull like snout, glowing red eyes searched and landed upon Asha as the portal of fel-flame closed—— Asha had been jumped from behind and the chain barbs had hooked into her armor in front, the morning star was flung through the air and she was still attempting to dodge the metal jawed horror that was grappling her from behind, its jaw hanging open as it attempted to grapple and bite, Asha screamed out an order up at the summoned felcreature- "Attack!" the felcreature swung a clawed hand low at the spike chain user and swept it away from Asha, the chain falling to the floor, the creature was beat to a pulp and then with a swing of the felcreatures barbed tail the two creatures that were sneaking in for attacks next, the beast gave an intimidating bellow and snort toward any of the horrors, the thing was a true tank-

Charles Blackstone: Charles saw the two hits that Asha took and put a foot forward towards her direction, and then he saw how the fel-beast destroyed 3 of the creatures with ease "Oh" He blinked a moment and that is when a flail struck his back and he staggered forward. Turning to his left he barely managed to parry another blade coming for him and cut off the beasts arm. Bleeding from his back he turned and slammed his katana downward into a spear and shield using creature. The shield bounced his katana and the spear was barely dodges, stabbing into a nearby table. Charles groaned in pain as he rolled away. A creature charged at him and he spun low, tripping it up and then cutting its head off in mid air.

Gentle Repose: -the felcreature threw one of the horrors it was a powerful throw where two creatures collided and ended in blood and gore splattering the wall, floor and ceiling, the ten foot tall beast turned to Asha and the creature she had on her back, he kicked the thing once, then again and kicked if off his mistress, then that huge hoof rose and stomped the metal-jawed horror into a smear on the floor, the summoned creature then trotted off toward the masses which were lurking in darkness it grabbed up one of the horrors that was near Charles on its way by and ripped the things head off as it traveled through the room—Asha had been released from the grasp of the horror that had been on top of her back, her leather armor had been shredded right near her neck on her back, she lay in near darkness, her world was black she could hear the voices, they had always been in her head, always there through the battle and speaking to her at a maddening tone, level and repetitiveness, she let out a gurgle exhale of air and started to crawl, a bit of insanity had started to touch her mind and though she thought she couldn't move she found herself struggling to her knees, she knew where the portal was. it was calling to her and it had to be opened, for a time she had fallen to the voices madness, she struggled to hold her head up-

Charles Blackstone: Charles looked at the one with the spear, blood dripping from his lips as he waited for the spear to be thrusted at him. Parrying it he would cut off the tip in a quick swing, however he didn't expect the shielf bash and was stagged backwards. The shield was brought again onto his head before Charles could even stand, swinging down, overtop of the shield trying to pierce through the neck of the neck of the horror. Staggering as it falls Charles looks for Asha. He moved over and saw her crawling. Coming up behind her he would call her name "Asha we need to get you out of here."

Gentle Repose: -she moved slowly and used a nearby table to lean on as she felt blood trickle down her back, blood tricking from her armors lower edge, any cloth below her waist was soaked in blood on that left side, and the ripped up armor on her back hid the wound that was between her shoulder blades, her head stayed low, until she looked toward him, her eyes were two pools, no pupil nor iris or white showed, but they had what could only be what some people would called a possessed magical blue glow to them, she took labored steps the wall and Charles could see an ornate frame that stood in a bracket of stone build into the floor, the metal frame was covered in runes, some in draconic and others in other rune writing languages, she seemed to be entranced as her fingers moved along the metal worked frame, a shimmer of magic lit the area around the portal frame as she touched it, Asha's fingers brushed over runes seemingly randomly...it may have seemed strange that she knew exactly which runes to activate and how to do so smoothly, she was no true mage...her first encounter with the portal had been by complete happenstance-

Gentle Repose: -there was a hiss from the corner near where Asha stood, coming from the ceiling, one of the skin stretched horrors dropped down from the ceiling and landed right on top a table near Asha, both its lower arms had been impaled with sharp shards of glass from a mirror it roared and hissed madly-

Charles Blackstone: Charles heard the one that hissed madly and quickly handled it by hoping towards it and thrusting with his blade. Then looking at Asha, seeing how smoothly she operated the portal he knew something felt off. Whatever it was he just knew it. The injured man would carefully wrap his arms around her waist and then, with all of his strength pull her away, holding her in the air and backpedaling quickly towards the door.

Gentle Repose: -She hadn't even flinched when the horror dropped in so close, her fingers moving over more and more of the runes in the right order, while the horror was slain. When Charles took her around the waist, her mouth opened but the voice was not hers when she spoke, a voice of pure energy spoke from her- "..the portal must open" -her fingers stretched out and lit another rune before he pulled her away, he might be able to feel her body vibrating with energy that didn't seem like her own as he held her and pulled her away from the portal, once the two of them were more than half way through the room, the walls started to seem like they were closing in, the cavernous room seemed to shrink to a more believable size, the funhouse effect was fading and the magic around the room was settling and ebbing away, Asha or whatever had taken her over tried to fight against his hold, wanting nothing more than to go back to the portal-

Gentle Repose

Date: 2016-01-07 04:01 EST
Charles Blackstone: The room ebbing away and the sheer energy radiating from Asha made him stumble a bit, but his grip held true although he had to spend more of his strength than he even expected as whatever had taken over Asha fought back against him. He could feel both his and her blood start to mix on is body, his front becoming entirely drenched in blood as he staggered up to the door. Looking back at the portal for a moment he then pushed through the door and yelled loudly "I need a healer here! Help!" He would get Asha to a cot and kneel next to her even though he was still bleeding.

Gentle Repose: -the portal erupted in a light that cut through the darkness, the cold in the room settled to average as the light spread from the porta....it wasn't an explosion but the wave of energy that came from it shown in a ray out of the doors when Charles pulled them out of the room, the energy that had possessed Asha left her and she would have hit the floor hard if not for Charles being there carrying her, her head lulled, but she was awake and let out gasp as her body spasmed from the pain that hit her, blood wet the cot under her as her eyes returned to normal- "oo-hh.." -she reached blood caked fingers for the left side and pulled at the armor that had pressed into the wound, she seemed unaware of her surroundings for the moment- "..have..to..warn them" -she muttered as her eyes didn't focus——a healer girl who had been tending the injured all night heard the call for aid and her eyes widened as she looked upon the two of them, she quickly washed her hands and gathered supplies before she headed over-

Charles Blackstone: "Warn who. Tell me Asha" He was hurt and in pain but there were far pressing matters. His katana still in one hand, dripping blood and whatever else these horrors produced upon death. He saw how badly she was messed up and looked to the healer for a moment and then towards asha. "Keep her here and let her rest. I will handle whatever is needed to be handled" He took in a deep breath as he saw the ray of light from the portal and looked towards Asha once more.

Gentle Repose: -while laying there Asha, grimaced in pain, and pulled at the armor, she sent a scream of pain as the back piece of the armor was pinned into the wound, but the pain in her side was to much to bare at the moment, mentally Asha seemed not to be aware of were she was, the tiefling pulled again and sat straight up, in her head she thought she was somewhere in danger, the last thing she had remembered was the creature that had ravaged her back and now due to pain and panic she was removing the leather body armor, with a sick rip the armor pulled up and over her head and she collapsed nearly falling off the cot as the armor was thrown almost to the feet of the healer who was walking up——the young healers gasped as she almost went green in the face, she could see from her vantage point Asha's back-

Charles Blackstone: Charles was used to this kind of gore. He caught the panicing Asha and looked to the healer "She is going into shock here over here!" Like the dwarf earlier, his voice became that of a seasoned general barking out orders "Clean and prep these wounds for bandages, stop the bleeding and get her armor off." He moved and felt the pain he was in but he disregarded it. "Asha look at me. Look at me!" He cupped her face "Who do I need to warn—What is coming through that portal. Tell me!"

Gentle Repose: -the healer fumbled with the bandages and sat things down, she obviously was trying to still her stomach and gather her thoughts and then she lay the items on a nearby table, she stepped around the bloody upper body armor which was on the ground, hearing Charles speak she quickly started to prepare to work on the worst wound first- -Asha was spasming in pain and blood was running fast from the wound in her side, she held her hand pressed there but wasn't doing much in the way of pressure "warn.." -she gasped and her words went quiet, she stared off passed his eyes and went silent, her breathing rapid and jagged, the look in her eyes showed fear-

Gentle Repose: -the healers came rushing in to aid her, two brought canvas privacy screens around them and the others gave Charles room as four of them with the cleric went to work on Asha-

Charles Blackstone: "She is in shock" He dropped his blood stained coat off of his body and rolled his neck around "Grab two blankets and fresh warm water. RUN!" He yells as he drops his coat around her to keep her warm he would aid the Healers as best he coul, preforming some triage work on lesser wounds on her body, bing careful not to get in the way as he trembled slightly.

Gentle Repose: -two of the healers went wooden warmers they had brought in, luckily the blankets had been restocked and the warming fires under the boxes had been keep heated, they soon returned and would bring two heated blankets, they applied the blankets careful not to get in the way but keep her warm, the cleric worked to cut away the black tunic that was caked to Asha's form, enough to let her see the wounds, they had to keep Asha on her right side so they could work, the third brought fresh water, clean rags and more bandages as well as a kit with medical tools—the light from the room with the portal died away from its bright glow, but a red-blue light still lit the room through the doorway, at the moment nothing seemed to be heard from the room past the curtains—Asha's eyes rolled closed, her breathing was still the same hard gasps-

Charles Blackstone: Charles looked to Asha and then the healers. Leaning forward he would whisper in her ear before standing and trusting the healers to do their job. He stood and moved out of the privacy curtains and looked into the room where they had just came from. The red-blue light intrigued him. Katana out in one hand he slowly made his way back into the room, once against casting the ball of light to dance above his head. the whisper: I love you Asha, you better make it through this

Gentle Repose: -the healers continued to work, the cleric worked to clean the wounds, using spells to cleanse the wounds of debris as well as fresh water, she worked on the wound at Asha's left side first, cleaning and magically mending what she could, then leaving one of the younger healers to sew it up, the bleeding there had slowed to nearly none once they had sealed it from the inside out, Asha's back would take more time the mangled mess of skin, tissue and muscle was easily more than any one of these healers had ever worked to mend, the cleric's usually still hands were shaking as she worked——the room was much smaller than when he had last left it, though some gore remained dripping from walls and the ceiling the room was not even half of the size it had appeared before and even if the curtains were drawn light from the now evening sun shown through behind them, there wasn't an unnatural chill, only one that came from not having the fireplace lit and being closed off, at the far end of the room against the wall nearly in corner sat the portal, it was easily ten foot high and eight feet wide, it was awake and the rune worked edges seemed to dance with light from time to time that shimmered over the magical lettering of all languages, the portal itself glowed blue-red and swirled in a counterclockwise lazy glow, the whole portal and the frame was set on a stone base which was magically secured to the floor-

Charles Blackstone: Charles tossed the ball up, it acting as a bright source of light as he looked at the portal with intrigue and with a sense that, at any moment, something was going to jump out and attack him. Katana still at the ready he stopped when he was 5 feet infront of it, His silver eyes studying it for a moment. He was still bleeding from the wounds in his body and his right arm was slowly starting to lose its ability to move.

Gentle Repose: -whispers came from the portal, not from the center but the edges around the runes, it wasn't calling to him but he could hear it, it was quiet enough that it was hard to tell if it were a male or female speaking- "none will survive" another whisper from somewhere beyond the glow a male voice echoed but still a whisper- "his followers and their spawn must die" "death is justice" was said over and over by voices beyond, the voices seemed to come from different beings but strangely they all sound to be speaking of the same subject, then after those whispers faded another flowed from beyond the glow.."we will find, the one who escaped", then the portal went quiet except for the sound of power-

Charles Blackstone: Charles heard the portals whispers for a moment and gave a low, almost feral growl. When it shut off he shook his head a bit and turned and stepped away from it. As he got the the end of the door he closed them behind them. "No one should be going in there for now..." Hem uttered to himself and then made his way over to where the healers were working on asha. He quietly opened the privacy curtains and looked to see how far along they were. He had hoped that he would finally get the answer to who he should be warning.

Gentle Repose: -the clerics tending to Asha cleaned and washed the wound on her back and laid her gently on her stomach, blankets where changed out for warmer ones, she was oblivious to reality as in her mind a vision pressed, she was standing over a crossroads, below she watched as two forms in dark but fancy clothing sat at a campfire their hoods drawn tight over their heads to block the wind as they ate, she could smell the fire and the meat roasting on the spit before them, she could see the camp they had set before them, the goblets they had filled with the best wine in Golorion, she felt parched and smacked her lips, she had been starving for days, with nothing to drink while she was locked in a cage, she heard the chain above her creek as the wind blew the crowscage, her muscles ached but there was no room for her to sit, she used the bars to lean against could feel the cold metal against almost bareskin, they had atleast left her in rags, she called down to them- "..now boys..ye could at least pass me a drink..one for a lady" -she cringed and fingers attempted to pass through the bars, it didnt do much good...maybe one of them would be dumb enough to let her have a drink and she could try and escape, but neither of them got up from their meal at the fire- "shut up...you up there...you'll do good to die..'fore ye get were yer going" -in reality Asha was muttering and may have even smacked her lips but she remained still and the clerics continued to work-
