The woman stood over a table within the rented room of a hotel. It had been nightfall, and a storm had just been settling over the horizon.

A blanket lay nearby. It had been protecting the bundle she had carried.

Outside, rain pelted the window, and thunder shook and rattled loose shutters. But green eyes remained focused upon the form before her.

A hand carefully smoothing out one of the bandages. The fledgling had not moved, though the spell ought to have worked. The nearly empty husk of the young dragon's body kept alive by the power of a dark spell.

He'd been kept in the dark for two days, with only his thoughts, and now, she curled a hand carefully around the mummified beast's snout, whispering softly and in soothing tones as another crack of thunder sounded in the distance.

"Can you hear me, precious?" The tone that a mother used with a child.

*He had always thought he had known what the expression 'feeling empty inside' meant. Now, Aurthur REALLY knew what it meant to be empty inside. Turned into a hatchling and having all of his organs removed, mummified alive.

He heard the voice of the woman who had done this to him. He felt anger, but as quickly as it washed over him, it departed, like a receding wave. What good was anger? He was mummified, held on this plane by the females dark magic.

He couldn't speak, mummified as he was, nor could he see. But he could hear, and when she asked her question, he nodded his head meekly. Yes, he could hear her, though he wished he couldn't.*

That is good, precious. Not using the fledgling's name. Precious seemed just much more fitting.

Fingers gently stroking the bandages as she continued in that soft tone. I was afraid I'd lost you there when you did not move. Fingers soon tickling the swaddled belly. I do have something for you, Precious..

Reaching into a pouch, she pulled free a tiny blue winged scarab. The golden beetle pendant placed upon his chest.

Azure wings outspread, the symbol of rebirth matching the color of his scaled hide. It is charmed, precious. Tucking the sacred beetle into his wrapping. It will let you see what I see.

Soon she gently rolled the body over onto it's stomach. Cooing again. You may also move, if you hear the sound of my voice. Placing it to the test. she smiled, whispering to the mummy before her. Come closer to me.

Another day had passed, and she smiled as she stroked the bandaged form upon the table. Cooing to the fledgling assuredly. Until a knock sounded upon the door.

"Who is it?" The man on the other side held an envelope, while she slipped over to the door to answer.

"Delivery mam' ::Offering the envelope to the dark haired woman's hands. A bow, before turning and slipping away.

Green eyes fell upon the envelope held within her hands and a smile formed upon her face. Closing the door, she would return to the bound fledgling.

Opening the missive, a delighted smile formed as she read it out loud to the mummified beast.

Dear Susanna,

We are writing to thank you for your most generous donation. Even as I write this, our researchers are in the lab taking samples.

We are hoping our study will be fruitful, and save many a child's life.

Sincerely, the staff at the Rhy'din children's hospital.

Ps. We have not forgotten about your request.

Folding the letter, and tucking it away in the envelope. Fingers traced the fledgling's snout as she cooed to him.

It will only be time. and you my precious, have plenty of that.

*He couldn't be upset about his stolen organs being used to help children. He always tried to help children, he would just liked to have been asked first. With her spell, he could see the letter as she read it, as well as hearing her speak the words.

Time.....Plenty of time, she said. How could he have plenty of time" He was a living mummy, which was ridiculous. If her spell faltered, even for a second, he would die in an instant, gasping for breath that there were no lungs to produce.

A shiver would have went up his spine, if he could have moved. Why hadn't his mate come" Why hadn't anyone come to help him' Surely he was missed at this point, he never stayed gone so long without leaving word....Despair filled him, and with all his organs missing, there was plenty of space to fill. He was beginning to think he would never see his family again......He'd never see his mate, nor his children, nor his friends again. He mustered up as much power as he could to send her a single message using his thought speech.*

<Just.....Kill.....Me......>

Now, now Precious. Picking up the rigid form and carrying him back to his sarcophagus. A grin as she lay him inside to "rest". Another stroke of the bandaged form, before sliding the lid shut.

A few more days ought to do it...

A smirk as she soon tucked the letter away, moving to sit within the chair nearby. Soon Precious, crooning to the protective case.

*Soon wasn't soon enough. He wasn't in any physical pain, but the worst pain for one to endure wasn't usually physical. And there wasn't anything he could do. His magic was weak on his strongest day, it certainly wouldn't keep him alive if he managed to escape......So, in his sarcophagus he would stay, until h was let out again, for who knew what end.*

Minutes passed by into hours, and hours into days. Sometimes, she'd speak soothingly to the sarcophagus where the fledgling mummy lay. Other times, she let the silence loom.

Training the wee beast's mind. or perhaps it would break.

Opening the lid, smiling down at her charge. Fingers tracing along his bandaged belly.

You are a very special one, Precious.

*Over the intervening days, he had gained some strength back. To use his voice speech anyways. He saw her, every time she opened the sarcophagus, and his hatred and rage boiled every time. But what was he to do?*

<I WAS special, to a lot of people, until you took me away from them. I hope you are satisfied, and can live with yourself, while they grieve for me!>

There was one that asked about you...A bull man. Stroking his bandaged belly, then smiling.

But for now, your mind is too strong yet. Lifting a hand to gently run fingers over the mummified snout. Her voice soon softening. The past is in the past, Precious...Cooing gently and soothingly to the creature's mind.

It is the future that matters. But do not fret.

Your memories will remain. But they will be locked away, deep down where one day, they will be reveiled to you.

Still speaking tenderly, stroking the snout gently. You are Precious, and always have been. Your mother will be proud.

Sinestra: ::Humming a bit to herself, soon she'd moved to the sarcophagus, gently prying off the lid.:: Morning Precious. ::Crooning to the mummy within. Testing his mind.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: *His mind was sluggish. It took him a long time to formulate a reply.* <I woudn't know.....Even with your spell, it's always dark for me.> Sinestra: You were chosen you know...A special one, that will be reborn. ::Lifting the mummy out of his case.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <I must be super special.....I've been reborn.....Before.....>

Sinestra: But not completely' ::Tracing his belly with a fingertip as she carried him to the table.::

Sinestra: ::Easing him down, she would start to unwrap the bandages, one at a time.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <I was raised from an egg....By my mother and father. A vengeful father....His name is......> *He was going to use his father's name like a threat. But he couldn't remember his name, nor his mother's.*

Sinestra: Is" Stroking his snout as she worked:: We must see what condition you are in, Precious.

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <I don't know.....> *He would have frowned if he could. His mind was unraveling faster than the bandages.*

Sinestra: You don't know. But that is alright. ::Smiling as it seemed the spell was working it's magic.::

Sinestra: ::Another layer soon peeled away, reveiling the blue scaled hide.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <Who are you?> *He didn't even remember who HE was anymore.* <How'd I get here">

Sinestra: You were found, by a traveller, and brought here. ::Croning still, though a frown as she eyed the condition of the blue scaled hide.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <Why can't I move" Why can't I see">

Sinestra: ::Soon removing the last of the bandages.:: You need surgery, ::Softly cooing.:: The scapel gently taken up as she worked the stitches free. First, he'd have to be cleaned. Removing the scented sachets. Picking him up, he'd then receive a tender bath. Washing out the scents of Frankincense, Myrrh and Patchouli.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <What happened to me" Am I dying">

Sinestra: No precious, you are not dying. You will live for a long, long time. But you were greatly injured. ::Laying him back onto the table. A towel would gently dry him out, as she moved to fetch the jars that had just been delivered yesterday.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <Why would anyone hurt me" I never hurt anyone....I think.....>

Sinestra: There are those who would, just because. ::Tucking the newborn organs into place. Working as if placing together a puzzle.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: <I....> *That was the last word he spoke with his mind. He could no longer remember how to speak. His mind was a jumble of confused thoughts.*

Sinestra: ::Once finished, she gently closed him up. Working carefully to remove the damged blue scaled hide. Another frown as she looked into a nearby bag. She had hides of every hue...Except blue. ::Tucking the scales away. She'd reach into the bag and pull free a emerald green scaled hide. Easing it beneath the still form.::

Aurthur Shimmerscale: *He couldn't feel anything, nor think anything any longer. His mind had receded completely upon itself, the mind of a newborn.*

Sinestra: ::Working with the patience and steady hand. soon the hide had been cut to fit, and gently stitched into place. Fingers gently brushing the now green fledgling's head. You will be immune, to all but healing magic, and you will grow as nature intends. ::Cooing softly as she tickled his belly. Your mother will wait patiently. ::Gently kneeding his form, as if he were a bit of clay.::

Sinestra: ::Back and forth, rolling the fledgling beneath her hands.::

Sinestra: ::Working until he was but an embryo. Soon she would rush to the next room, where a gold lay napping.
