Delivered directly to Duci's front door by a very handsome halfling delivery boy was a vintage French picnic basket with an envelope attached to the lid. Inside the envelope was a single piece of expensive stationery monogrammed with 'RBL' in gold foil. The note read:

Duci-

I can never remember exactly when your birthday is. I know it's the end of July, but the exact date escapes me. Anyway, if this gift is late, please forgive me. And if it's early, well, aren't you proud?

The DVDs are some of my favourite films and all star the most beautiful and classiest lady in all of Hollywood, which is fitting since you are easily the most beautiful and classiest of my friends. Please enjoy the snacks and champagne while you watch the films for the best viewing experience.

The iPad and case are a completely frivolous thing, but every girl needs a little technological doo-dad in her life...especially one as cool and useful as a tablet computer. I took the liberty of downloading Angry Birds and Temple Run, two games that stupidly addictive. I apologise in advance for any lost productivity.

The gift certificates are for any services at the spa in our hotel. I highly recommend the mani-pedi, mud packs, and the deep-muscle massages. They are simply decadent life savers!

And finally, the flowers remind me of you. Beautiful, sunny, and instant mood-lifters.

Hope your birthday (whenever it actually is!) is a wonderful day full of everything you deserve and time spent with the people you love most.

Love, Ri <3
