There will be a field trip to the Rhydin Observatory Complex and Botanical Garden for students on Wednesday, 29 May 2013 at 1 pm. Morning classes will be cancelled that day.

Since there are already enough adult chaperones that will be in attendance, any instructors, permanent or guest lecturers, that wish to take the day off, may do so. For those that wish to attend, transportation to and from the school will be provided. Maps will be provided for anyone that wishes to go directly to the site.

Parents are advised that their children should wear or bring clothing appropriate for the weather. Aprons and gloves will be provided to allow the students to try their hand at planting herbs and examining other plants.

((This event will be posted. Several characters were invited to come along for the preview; their players are invited to post. The same goes for anyone that has a character that is or has been an instructor or student (or parent of a student) at the Academy.

The opening post will be up soon.

Thank you and have fun!

Edited to add: the starting post is here Some details are posted here http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php"p=175920#175920 Despite the picture, the child care center is set up for a lot more children than the limitations of Sims will allow. Instructors and Students,

Koyliak VanDuran-Simon is heading up a civic project, The Great Rhydin Quilt, to create a quilt for the Rhydin Welcome Center. If you are interested in participating by adding your own square, a tent has been set up outside the Welcome Center where supplies will be available. If you wish to volunteer in some capacity, please contact Mrs. Simon directly.

Parents, if your child is interested in taking part, please accompany them to the site or work on a square at home and present it at the Welcome Center. Our children are our community's future and this could be an excellent opportunity for them to take part in a civic project.

Sincerely,

Rhiannon Harker

Instructors, Students, and Parents,

Mataya DeLuca, the owner of the Shanachie Theater, has asked for volunteers to take part in the children's choir for the production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat between 3rd to the 15th of March. Participation is not required, however, this is a good opportunity for our student body to take part in a community event. Students not participating will have a half day session at the Academy. Parents are asked to plan accordingly.

Please be advised that the play has a religious theme and any questions the children have regarding that should be treated as respectfully and as honestly as possible even if your answer must be "I don't know." At Harker's we promote tolerance toward the beliefs of others.

Sincerely,

Rhiannon D. Harker Director Harker's Dueling and Defense Academy

((Feel free to use this in play despite my delay in posting it. This is/was a vapor play event. A message was sent out to the family and friends of the Harker Family. To clarify: the students at the Academy fall into either of those groups, so their families would have been sent this message.))

10 August 2015

Dear Friends and Family,

Please join us on Harkers' Island 11-13 August to celebrate the victory of Maggie Harker, one of our Harker's Academy students, in the Summer Talon Tournament for 2015.

This will also serve as our school's summer get together before regular classes begin again on 14 September. Bring your tents, camping gear, and sleeping bags. We'll provide the food. You are welcome to bring your pets, but please be aware that we cannot take responsibility for their behavior with other people and pets that might be present. Pet sitting can be arranged by us if needed. Ferry boat transport will be available on the hour from the docks.

Hope to see you there!

OOC Notes

In the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be setting up and updating some posts for the Academy. If your PC or NPC is involved with the school or you would like to have them be involved, please let me know so I can refresh my memory and put them on the roll call list for students. Anyone that has a character that might like to be a teacher, guest lecturer, etc. please PM me.

Channel KIDS is going to get underway soon. This will be a student project to help improve public speaking abilities and getting to know about some of the people and places in the Rhydin Community. Students will be given the opportunity to interview local business owners as well as their fellow students. If you are willing to have your character's business be involved in a tour or interview, PMs or catching Rhi in live play to talk about will be fine.

Thank you! :)

Pinned to bulletin board on 16 March 2016

Congratulations to Maurin St. Germain for having the highest science grades in the 3-8 age groups.

Congratulations to Lyneth Granger, who took first prize in the story contest.

There will be a birthday dinner and party for Maggie Harker on Thursday, 17 March, at Nicole's Bistro beginning at 5PM. Students, faculty, family, and friends are invited. Please use the garden entrance as we will be using that or one of the private party rooms depending on the weather.

Any student interested in being an interviewer or set crew for Channel KIDS, please contact Ms. Fand in the office.

In partnership with Wonderplex, the Academy will be sponsoring the Children's Day events this year between 4-10 April. The park has always been free of charge for Children's Day and will be this year as well. Students that would like to attend but have transportation issues, please contact me directly for information. More details will be given at the Town Meeting on 24 March.

Students that celebrate any of the spring religious holidays that require time off to attend services or associated events are asked to bring a note from your parent or guardian to verify this absence from classes.

If there are questions or concerns, students and parents are asked to contact me directly either before or after classes or leave a message.

Sincerely,

Rhiannon D. Harker Director of Harker's Academy Old Temple District

The following was placed on the student bulletin board:

Events for Children's Day 2017 will be held in the second week of April. Any students and their families that are interested in helping with or sponsoring events are asked to contact Maggie Harker directly or leave word at the office.

Children's Day activities are generally sponsored by the MacLeod Foundation, Harker's Dueling and Defense Academy, Mad Hatter Entertainment, and Riverview Clinic.

A clothing, household supplies, and toy drive will be held during the week to benefit children in low income families, Rhydin's foster care system, and orphanages. Any student interested in doing a TV spot for Channel KIDS to advertise this drive is asked to contact Maggie or Mrs. Harker in the office.

((Please post a note here or PM me here. ))
