Uncharacteristic of Murelle, she woke up in a foul mood. Nothing was right in her world. Llewyss was gone, her daughter is growing up and less dependent on her (as it should be, but Murelle was not in a tolerant mood) and she was feeling the aches and pains of a 50 year old woman. She stomped off to the kitchen to make some coffee. Murelle gave up a lot of the high tech gadgetry when she moved to Eldicor but her kitchen was modern enough for her use. Coffee brewing, Murelle turned on her computer to get the news from home.

She suddenly was homesick for Terra. Earth. Her family and friends. Sure she made friends here in this strange land of Rhydin but it wasn't the same. Tears suddenly appeared much to her surprise. Murelle wasn't generally weepy. Gwyn skipped into the kitchen, Mure quickly dried her tears.

"Mom, going to Eliza's! She's going to show me her sword!"

"Her sword?" This got Murelle's attention.

"Yeah! Her sword! I'll be back for lunch." Gwyn kissed Murelle on the cheek and cheerfully skipped outside the backdoor.

A cup of coffee and a nice email from a friend helped her mood some; she then took a shower and decided to make a delicious lunch for Gwyn. Cooking always helps.

Gwyn swept in grinning ear to ear. Murelle chuckled. "What did you think of Eliza's sword?"

Gwyn went on and on about the sword then suddenly asked her. "Can I have a sword?"

Murelle choked. "A sword?"

"Yeah! I want to learn to use one."

Well, this was bound to happen sooner or later. So Murelle lectures a little. "You know a sword isn't a play toy. It takes skill to use one, a responsibility. If you want one, you have to take lessons how to use one. How to respect them. You are used to blasters and more" modern....weapons. These are far different."

"Is that's why you don't have one?" Gwyn queries between bites of her turkey sandwich.

"I don't know how to use one. Your father had one, but I buried it with him. He was a good swordsman and knew how to use them."

Gwyn didn't answer at once but took another bite of her sandwich, put it down and took a long drink of water. Murelle suddenly wasn't hungry and watched her daughter. One thing she inherited from her father is thinking things through. She finally answered.

"I'll take the lessons. I really want one."

"Very well, I'll talk to a friend who can teach you, but I warn you, it will not be easy. He will teach you well, and I want you to listen to him."

"I'll do it Mom."

"Alright, I'll talk to Baron Xenograg."

This startled Gwyn. She set down her sandwich and stares at her mother. Xenograg must have made an impression on her.

"Baron Xenograg?" Her voice drops to a whisper.

"He's the best swordsman I know and he will teach you well."

Gwyn played with her sandwich a little, contemplating this. "He scares me Momma."

"He's a friend of mine and will never do anything to harm you. I would trust him with your life. If you want a sword, you must take lessons. I will not budge."

After a moment's hesitation she says; "I will take the lessons."

"Very well, I'll talk to the Baron. Now tell me about Eliza's sword.?

Gwyn's face brightened. The rest of the lunch she happily went on about the sword. Murelle was a little sad. Her daughter was growing up.
