An envelope arrived with a handwritten address to "Kathryn Batten" by private courier early in the morning at week's end. There were no other external markings on the pristine white envelope.

I'm not really the beat around the bush sort, as you know. So, I'm just going to come out and say it. I know that things have been strained between us for a while now. The reasons are probably as numerous as they are needless. I don't have so many friends that I could casually cast one aside. I'd like to ask if you'd agree to meet with me, somewhere quiet, where we can talk things through and get back to a semblance of where we used to be. I truly do hope that we can understand each other better through this meeting.
