Katt Batten

.: Oct 12th - Early Morning :.

Thud! "Nhhoowwww!" The grumble came from under the mass of blankets, sheets, and body that spilled half off of the bed. The bed looked like lovers had a night of sheet tossing instead of one young woman fitting about in nightmares.

Sleep had been fitful and dissatisfying.

One leg bounced from the curve of the bed, her back on the floor, she was just staring at the ceiling. Not one of the best wake up calls. Could of been worse.

Kicking at the blanket she wormed herself along the floor until she tumbled free. Shoulders arched as her head reared back and tossed the loose chocolate from her face. Sweet freedom!

A dirty look was shot over her shoulder to the comforter that was stretched out at her like it wanted to grab her and pull her back in. Not that she wouldn't mind but she had things to do. Someone to go see.

Tugging on the end of her sleep shorts she sluggishly moved along the floor. "Diana?"

"Good morning, Miss Rhysata. I hope you slept well." the lovely female voice came from nowhere particular. Really she was curious to how Edward did that. Then again she was just curious about a lot of things. "How might I assist you?"

"Mrm...Katt."

"Katt." the voice repeated.

"Diana?"

"Yes, Miss Rhysata" How may I assist you?"

"...Katt."

"Katt."

"....Diana?"

"Yes, Miss Rhysata" How may I assist you?"

And while she held mountains of patience, this seemed to be like a daily routine with the AI. After twenty minutes or so of repeated conversation she snorted a quiet chuckle. "You can call me Katt you know.."

"Yes, Miss Rhysata. You have told me numerous times now."

A hand waved to nobody particular as she pulled out her rucksack from it's corner and sat on the floor. Considering the wonderfully spacious place with plenty of dresser drawers to put her clothes in..all her things still remained in the rucksack.

Why bother unpacking" It wasn't like it was permanent. No place had ever been so why would this be any different' After all she was there so Edward could keep an eye on her and not have to spare extra manpower to watch the Bon Bon to do so.

Not that she expected him to just kick her out of the apartment but it was for employees. Which she was not!

"Um..Diana?" "Yes, Miss Rhysata?"

She could of sworn the sensual voice was right behind her ear. It was so creepy! She even took the time to glance over shoulder. "Mrm....Let Edward know that I'll be heading to him in about..an hour. I'm going to get dressed and head to the Bon Bon to prepare him some fresh beignets."

"Understood. Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"Ummm." She wanted to ask about Leo's condition. How he was doing. But like in every attempt to find out..she chickened out. "Have him send me a message via the PCUI where he wants to meet up."

"Understood."

"Thank you, Diana."

"Of course, Miss Rhysata."

It took her all of five minutes to get dressed and out the door. She'd hit the Bon Bon first to make sure Will hadn't burned down the place in Sergei's absence. Would be a shame if that were to happen when she was so close to paying off her debt for the building. So close to the Bon Bon being her own...

It was fascinating stuff.

When he'd started working on the Guardian project, he had taken the time to do a lot of research into genetic engineering and human DNA. Fortunately there was a surfeit of information on both - scientists had been researching DNA since its discovery in the late nineteenth century, and with his intelligence and the volumes of information that had been put together by scientists over nearly a hundred and fifty years, he was able to program his nanotechnology to manipulate his own genetic structure, enhancing his physiology and combining it with his own technology to create something far, far superior.

His own DNA had been restructured into a triple helix and infused with the crystalline-lattice polymer that he marketed as the primary component of his OmniPower system, a technique he had adapted to create the nanomachines themselves in the first place. The result had enabled him to not only be stronger, but had allowed his body to accept the nanomachine treatment without the possibility of rejection or undue trauma.

After Katt had given him the vial, he had taken it home, extracted the DNA from the blood sample, and tried to analyze it, only to find himself amazed. Like all DNA, it had the typical helical structure, and like his newly-enhanced DNA structure it appeared to be a triple helix, but where his had the standard twenty-six base sets (the could no longer be called pairings), Katt's appeared to have almost twice as many.

He frowned as he looked it over again, shaking his head. Without knowing which chromosomes controlled which traits, it would take some time to come up with a treatment that would be as effective on her as his was on him.

But that didn't mean he wouldn't try.

The cool, sultry voice of the AI interrupted the flow of his thoughts as he circled the holographic simulation of her DNA, in the office section of his basement level at the Manor. "Sir, Miss Rhysata is requesting to come see you and would like to know where she will be able to meet you. What shall I tell her?"

He chuckled, waving at the hologram. As it disappeared, he headed for the exit to the upper levels. "Tell 'er dat she can meet me here. Is she on her way already?"

"I believe she was going to run some errands first, sir."

He nodded, turning down the hallway and heading through the sliding crystalline entrance doorway. "Good. Gives me time t'get a shower in an' change. Send her a message tellin' her to come on 'head to de manor."

"Right away, sir."

The empty Bon Bon was somewhat eerie. Sergei gone. Will doing who knows what. Sumps at the apartment. The generally cheerful walls echoed the workings in the kitchen as she finished up the last batch of the beignets. She figured baker's dozen would be enough. What he didn't eat he could store for a snack later on.

She really did need to find out which ones he liked best. Would be disappointing to bring him ones he didn't like..

Preparing to settle the last of the beignets into the basket she blinked as the basket slid along the counter and away from her by an unseen force. "Mrm..Annie stop that." She moved after the basket and watched it slide just out of her reach.

Giggle.

The child giggle caused her lips to twitch. Even though she could not seem to help the little girl pass on, the ghost (among a handful of others) wasn't frightening. Just mischievous at times like at the moment.

"Come on, Annie. I've got to get g-"

"Miss Rhysata. Mister Batten will be awaiting for your arrival at Batten Manor."

She grunted when the voice sprung out of the silence. Turning her eyes down to the pocket of her hoodie she stared for a moment before taking out the translucent tablet. "Geez, Diana. You scared me. Um...Where is Batten Manor?"

While Diana was giving directions she quickly snatched up the basket before the little ghost girl could steal it again. Grinning she started to the door and peered over the instructions. "Oh..okay.." She was still getting use to the PCUI but it was sorta neat to have. Little by little she was learning it.

On the way down the street she flicked through a number of the 'lessons' she was suppose to be learning. Already having gone through several with no problem. She didn't expect to ever have the know how of Edward or Karadesh but to understand without having to ask a million questions would be a little nice.

So into it was she that time passed and she nearly passed up the large home completely. By lucks chance she happened to look up to check to see how far she had to go. This is what she got for not paying attention to the world around her! Instead of the market streets she found herself in front of a rather vast homestead.

"....." She had to check the instructions again! "Oh..Wow.." Simply awe-struck at the manor she was suddenly itching to see inside. Surely it was just as impressive as the exterior!

A friendly wave was sent to someone working in the yard and she sprinted for the front door. A door she nearly tackled. Of course she wouldn't let herself in. How rude would that be? Instead she raised a hand to knock at the surface.

"Beignet delivery for Mister Batten!" She called out just to be cutesy.
