He'd won.

Rufus couldn't quite believe what he was seeing. He'd won!

It had been a spur of the moment decision, while walking in town with little Ro. He'd looked in at Renegade Regalia, and his eye had fallen on a beautiful silveen and pink diamond pendant that had immediately made him think of Miranda. He didn't think there had been any conscious thought involved in the decision to put his bid in. He'd simply seen the Nova Lily, and he'd wanted it for his wife.

It was a little early for a birthday present, but did he really need an excuse like a birthday to spoil his wife a little" She was a whirlwind in the best sense - the common link between so many branches of her myriad family, a successful designer and business woman, not to mention a truly inspiring mother to both their daughters, both the grown and the infant. He truly did not know where he would be, or even who he would be without her.

That evening, when she got home, there was a small box waiting for her, complete with a card in his familiar, flourishing hand.

"For my beautiful angel, One of a kind, for one of a kind."

Miranda wasn't really given to crying, though like most females, she had her moments. These days, most of those moments tended to revolve around Rufus - or Rufus and Rowan. They were mostly happy tears these days. There hadn't been much cause for unhappy tears in a very long time.

If Rufus had hoped to surprise his wife, he had accomplished his task and then some. She wasn't sure what the occasion was, but she wasn't going to argue. As much as she liked sparkly things, it was the thought behind the gift that really counted, and he had made that thought clear in his note.

Once she had finished blubbering, she made sure to kiss him and thank him properly for the gift, which she would wear with pride and joy, but he wouldn't get his real reward until their young daughter was tucked safely into bed.

The truth was neither of them was really perfect, but they were perfect for each other.
